  1. I bought one from the Stearns website last year, before I went to Alaska. Least expensive price I could find. Had to have one that was approved for US waters.

US Coast guard approved jackets can be used in Canada, but you MUST have a Canada approved jacket in the boat, sized correctly for all passengers.

You are correct that they are quite a bit cheaper in the US, than in Canada.

I guess we float differently in Canadian waters? :dunno:

  2. Many bad days on Lake O for salmon during east winds convinced me to just stay home when they were from that direction. I've had mediocre days fishing the streams for trout during east winds, but still go as it's far better than staying home.

It really is all about the weather pattern changes that affect the fish the most, IMO.

Give me three days of SW winds, and a good day will be had for sure on the 4th day.

  3. I took rods out to Alaska last fall.

Used the PVC, with a test cap on one end, and a threaded connector on the other. You can drill through the threaded connector and put a zip tie through it. That will stop any possibilities of tampering. The feds can xray, so it doesn't need to be opened.

My rods all made it to Alaska and back with no issues at all.

BTW, I also put 2" of foam cut to the inside diameter, (4")of the pvc, both top and bottom.

    Worked like a dream.

The airlines I flew on treated it sporting equipment, and charged $35 extra.

  4. Great shots, all of them!

The sleeping tots in the car seat on the way home from their tough day is a classic.

I have to add that the shot of the pheasants is something I haven't seen in a long time!

    Good on 'ya dad!

  5. Irishfield has it sooo correct!

I don't care if it's a 14' tin can, or a 41' yacht, it's impossible to dock the boat without using forward or reverse thrust against present direction.

It's the only brakes you have.

Whoever took your money on the repair, is the one to pursue for the warranty.

    Good luck with your quest.

  6. I've used this one for five years. replaced the batteries last year. Accurate to a degree or two, and cheap.

Fits in the inside pocket of my vest. Doubles as a meat thermometer for the BBQ as well!

  7. Haven't done it personally but a client who did said he was very happy with the results. I really think if you can't get employees pricing or friends of employees pricing, then it is worth the fee.

You have to know exactly what you want though

  8. Last year I put up an 18 x 24 ft with loft, and am at about $18000 now, and just need to put a chimney in and insulate. Included in that are slab, top quality 9x7 garage door, man door, 3 4x4 windows, siding, 30 year fiberglass shingles and 100% ice and water sheild, sofit and facia, as well as a set of good stairs that go up to the loft, oh and all wired up too.

The slab cost was $5500 with 12" around the outside, 6" throughout the rest, and lots of mesh and rebar, wanted to over do it a bit just to be sure.

My brother inlaw put up a hut like the one you are looking at, and it was a big pain in the but, leaks, is cold, and is like being in a big culvert. I would build with wood again anyday, in a traditional sense.

    Entropy

Good wisdom, and experience in this post!

Leave the steel for the farm implement shed, IMO

  9. I have a Bare 2pc rain suit. Probably 10 years old now. Paid around $500, at the time.

Washed it with a goretex cleaner and conditioner a couple of years ago. Water beads on it. And it does breathe to let out some perspiration.Haven't used it since.

My issue with most of the Goretex suits is that they are very heavy, and if you plan on using it in the summer, I doubt they vent off the perspiration quickly enough. It doesn't for me, anyway.

I also bought a G3 Simms Goretex wading jacket. Very nice, far lighter than the Bare, but the jacket was as much as the full two piece Bare suit.Bought it last August, and used it extensively. Water beads on it, and I'm very happy with it.

I think the bottom line is you have to try these suits on, and decide after you do that, whether they will fit your needs.

I think donning the suit at BPS, and walking around the store for an hour would be a great way to judge whether it will be a good suit for warm season wear. (just stare back at the gawkers)

    BTW

I'm open to offers on the Bare suit, size XL, like new.

  10. Love my new torch ... and love my iphone 3 ... wouldnt want to give either of them up (havent decided yet whether to upgrade to iphone 4 (probably will)

Either way don't forget to go to m.google.com/search and download their app ... it is a MUST have ... voice activated google means never having to type :)

Have to agree with the voice google app!

You won't believe how good it is till you try it!

  11. I've been a PC guy since day 1.

Got an iTouch, and really loved it, so when I was due for an upgrade to my cell, the next logical step was an iPhone.

I got the 3GS, and really enjoy it. Even with all that Rogers has to offer in the way of data and phone plans, it isn't cheap, but it certainly has been trouble free. Tons of free apps, as well as ones to pay for, but I've seen no need to pay for any yet.

I can sit at home and surf or check emails, through the router or the 3G network, and have never gone over my data plan.Load up Skype, and you can make long distance calls for .03/min from your phone when on wifi or router.

Make sure to buy a roaming plan if you go to the US, or just shut roaming off. It can get expensive if you don't.

Nobody I've talked with has had any virus problems with any iPhone.....yet.

  12. I have To agree X3

I bought a saw from an auction and at the end of the day a 220 1ph 2 HP was ok, but I was able to buy a 3 HP a year later, and that was the best. Doesn't even hint at a struggle with 8/4 hard maple.

  13. You know, that we are what we eat!

Having said that,do we really know what we are eating?

Government inspection doesn't cover the bases we expect it to.

Perch from Simcoe, trout from the Georgian Bay/lake Huron watershed, walleye from the inland lakes.

How bad can it really be?

I'm thinking far better than what was shown in the video!

  14. The American Angler on shows such as this, is impervious to to sharks, sunburn, skin cancer, and common sense.

That stuff only happens to the "other guy"!

Personally, I might favour the same Stainless Steel 'shark suit' worn by the guys, that take us Canadian tourists on the 'shark dives', common in the Bahamas, and the keys. And a bottle of sunscreen, SPF 30, just in case.lol :sarcasm: .
