  1. Sinker, My neighbor put a few pails out every year. Boils is over flames, in an old stainless sink.

I took a quick look at his set up last year. But this year, I am going to take a real good look, and try to learn a few things. if he has any really cool things going on, I'll send you some pictures. He is an inventor, so most of his stuff is home made.

Sure would be a good tradition to start as a family thing.

  2. Buddy at work had them stop at his hut. Huge chocolate lab. Those dogs are trained smart. I can remember when they brought one to the hunt club. They stashed a bag of fish in the engine. Man I thought that dog was going to rip the front end apart.

That was them! As for the CO that stopped us, he was an older gentleman. Very polite, and friendly.

So I guess the word "trick" may not be the best word to describe this. I see it as a "trick". Just like a clever speed trap, or the motorcycle cops who hide in the bushes with a radar in hand. It's "sneaky". Sure, they are just doing their jobs, and catching people who are breaking the law.. I get that. I am part of a volunteer OPP K9 Unit, and work with enforcement on a regular basis. And I know these guys where having fun setting up this little trap. They likely did it 20 times that day. And I bet you they handed out a few tickets too!

  3. It's probably the most efficient way to use what budget they DO have. :good:

Yep. I am glad to see it.

The guy who stopped us was on a newer model sled. Had a nice high quality new suite. That really is what they need. I remember several years ago, I saw a CO running Simcoe on a beat up old Tundra, with an old warn out, torn up suite. I'm guessing that guy's normal shift is up north.. :dunno:

  4. I feel your pain!

Last weekend on Gibson, I looked back to see my Auger flying thru the air, along with about $1500 worth of gear. The deep power was a blessing, and a curse. I cushioned the blow, so nothing was damaged. But I spent 5 minutes digging thru the snow looking for my stuff!

  5. Great shots. Nick you are a class act, great angler, and family man. I am proud to call you my friend.

    Thanks Blair!

Awesome recap Nick. Can't believe how well those panoramas turn out.

Ya, the panorama's are great! I want to get some printed and see how they look.

There are great odds Alex will grow up to be a sportsman...and a Maclays drinker haha.

Great pics for sure Nick. The iphone camera seems a bit better overall than my BB camera, but regardless, like you said, it's very handy and saves carrying an extra piece of equipment.

I delete my photos as I go, but here are a couple from an early morning laker trip and a couple from Nipissing this Saturday.

    That's a great shot Chad!

  6. I bet there are a lot of people taking home herring :)

    I could well imagine.

    Fish, Drugs or Beer?

    I find that strange

I am not 100% sure. But I believe the MNR have dogs that are trained to sniff out fresh fish and game. Heck, I think you could train any dog to do that! And sure, they are always looking for alcohol and drugs. But I think the dog is there for fish (and training).

Edit... Now that i see Wayne's post, that firms it up..

  7. I was part of a little CO game today on Simcoe. We where fishing a group of people. One of many failed spots on a long loop around Simcoe. I needed to get home, so we packed up and left. We where driving thru the group of people heading home. And saw 2 Conservation Officers with a K9 searching a portable hut. We just kept on driving along slowly. We pulled out of the group and accelerated toward home. Not 30 seconds later there's a CO coming towards us waving us down. This CO must have been riding along with the other 2. Sitting back with binoculars, watching to see what guys pack up and leave when they see the COs checking huts. He must have got a good vibe, because he didn't ask us to see any documentation. Sent us on our way. And he also told us that KNOWBODY is catching whitefish on Simcoe.

  8. I just got my I-phone this year around X-mas this year. These things are great! The camera in them is decent. Way better than my last phone, big time!

It's nice to always have a decent camera with you at all times. Catch all sorts of cool stuff on video or photo.

I am curious to see what cool shots you guys have on your smart-phones. Let see some of those winter Ice fishing shots. There must be some great shots on some OFC'er phones out there!

I'll start with a couple from mine. Some fishing shots. But also a bunch of outdoors, and family shots too! These are all accumulated over the last 3 months.

A bit of a season recap Via Smart phone shots!

The panorama feature on the I-phone is awesome.

If you guys have any good photos on the phones, let see em!

Working on the ice hut in the garage.. (because the ice was junk on Simcoe!)

    IMG_0538_zps2a4fcc78.jpg

Had to lay it on it's side to get out of the garage. I screwed rollers to the side so I could roll it out.

Once the ice was good on Simcoe we hit her HARD. But for the first time ever, I'm lined up for a season long white fish skunk... :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

    Lots of these though!

Teaching my sun a few tricks!!

    IMG_0876_zpsf02bb906.jpg

This weekend he turns 6-months. So I took him snowshoeing twice, and snapped a bunch of shots. Here's a few from the weekend.

    IMG_0849_zpsa097ff99.jpg

This is a little creek crossing on my 5k snowshoe loop. The roots of this old tree cross the river. The water flows under the tree. Great spot to cross. I laidd some old cedar across in places to make sort of a bridge.

    IMG_0866_zps8dcbcc77.jpg

Here's the same creek. On the left, you can see the water, and if you look close, you can see the trail on the right. Nice little patch of bush. I'm am very lucky to have permission of some of the property that I do. Little peaces of heaven for me and my family to enjoy.

Alex is tucked way down in there. He knocks out cold when I snowshoe with him. We did 5k today, and he didn't make a peep.
