  1. Need some advice, please. Never owned or used an ATV. Have a cottage now with lots of trails around. Also, I'ld like to cut fallen trees in the area for firewood so might get a small trailer to tow. A buddy of mine has a 2005 Honda 300 4X4 he wants to sell in good condition. Air cooled. Has an extra seat bolted on the back rack. I am not a speed demon (own a Yammy 115 on an 18 ft Lund). Would this Honda be a good choice to ride the local trails -sometimes with the wifey on the back. There are lots of inland lakes around too that deserve a cast. Does Honda make a good machine? Is 300 cc enough?

I would appreciate any comments. Thanks

  2. Finally got out Sunday on Pigeon to catch a biggun. Trolled 15-25 ft, 3-3.5 mph with a perch 10 inch Jake. Not a sniff. Water temp 58 on the surface. 2 ft waves with resulting murky water. Thought they turned on after Thanksgiving. Got tired of rockin and rollin so called it a day at 6pm.

  3. Hey Guys. Going to winterize my Yammy 115 4 Stroke this year myself for the first time.

Which oil does one use? Yamaha makes marine oil from the dealer but is a chunk more dough.

Is it the preferred oil or can you use auto oil. I wonder what the marinas use.

  4. Hi Everybody. Been lurking behind the scenes for a while and have benefited greatly from the various threads.

I fish mainly for big stuff. I like my muskie in June and the late summer/fall but like to focus on salmon on Lake O for 6 wks in the summer. Managed to buy a cottage on Pigeon Lake this year so the salmon thing might have to be scaled back. My ride is a 2007 Lund 17.5 Tyee with a Yammy 115. This year I smashed her bad on Three Sisters shoal half way down Pigeon on the way to the Tragically Hip concert at dusk. More than $4K to fix engine- fortunately insurance covered most of it. Had to be towed in by a good Samaritan. After a great repair (so far) at DT Power, I have a question about winterizing. I would like to store her in the boathouse and would rather not take her out to the marina. She might have 30 hrs on her since the repair(oil was changed then). I am wanting to forgo the oil change, stabilize the fuel and let it run thru, perhaps not change the lower unit oil(was also changed then), add RV antifreeze to the livewell intake and run the pump. Is a dry boathouse (with rail system) a good place to store a boat for the winter? I would appreciate anybody's advice. Thanks

  5. Remember Chinook salmon are shortlived (4-5yrs, then they spawn and die). Lakers, browns and steelhead spawn yearly and are much older fish when they get large. Same thing with walleye. Not sure how old a 3-4 lb walleye is but these fish are breeding fish and frankly don't taste as good a 1-2 lber.

I will keep a small to mid sized salmon, cut away the belly flesh, and put her on the barbee. Yummy

  6. Why stay away from Lake O till after the derby? She's a big lake and the fishing will be hot on the north shore when the water warms up. Likely the beginning of August. Just make sure you pick your days. Pay attention to the wind speed and direction. I wouldn't go out with winds greater than 15-20km. Avoid especially east winds on the western end of the lake.
