  1. I use 20 lb vanish leader material on my flippin and pitching setups for bass with 50 lb braid and never have problems. I'm also a knot freak, if it doesn't set or dress perfectly, i retie. have caught lots of muskie with these setups incidentally and never had a breakoff

  2. I like using the 20lb vanish leader material for flipping and pitching. Find the braid wears down quick especially on the rocks, while the leader lasts much longer. never had a breakoff at the uni to uni yet. Just had a couple at the jig end. If you take the time to tie and dress your knots properly and keep inspecting them, It's very rare you'll get broke off with 50 lb braid and 20 lb floro leader. And the invisibility factor doesn't hurt, but I mainly use it for the abrasion resistance.

  3. I guess I can only speak of personal experience, but my big fish catch rate between me and my buddies has gone up almost 400% since we started throwing these things. Now, that will probably slow down once the fish get used to these baits, but right now they're hot and I'm gonna keep throwin' them till my arms fall off! And by big fish I mean over 45 inches, which I consider big for teh kawwarthas. All those big name guides and pros don't throw them because they catch the same as the smaller blades, they make a living catching muskies and it's pretty hard to find another guide other than marc thorpe that doesn't believe in them, no offence Mark, as I wish I knew half as much about muskies as you, but most guides always have atleast one guy chucking these double 10's in their boat. And I'm guessing a lot of your fishing on the ottawa river is trolling to right?

  4. Not sure about it putting more fish in the boat, but it will put BIGGER fish in the boat. Has worked for me personally, and have seen it work out of the back of my boat as well. Just watch a few episodes of Musky Hunter and you'll see. And I'm pretty sure Musky mahem isn't one of the sponsors either. I forgot the stats on how many fish it's responsible for over 50 inches, but it's mind numbing!

  5. Dont really wanna say the name of the lake, a smaller lake where there is no tourneys that I know of, not even smaller club tourneys, kinda outta the way up towards haliburton more. Everyone loves it cuz it's only $50 a boat. People want to see a sort of classic next year and possibly team of the year too, so the enthusiasm is there. I was thinking of joining a club, but I allready have tons of buddies to fish with and don't really like the idea of pairing up with somebody new everytime. I know you learn lots of stuff, but I have 3 kids now and the time that I do get on the water I like to spend it with good buddies.

  6. Just curious as to get everyones opinion on this matter. I get a few buddies together once and a while and we have a little bass tournament. Just wondering how many fish you would release at the weigh in dock before you would drive them to another location and release them like the CSFL does. I might have upto a dozen boats this weekend, so there could be around 50 fish. Any thoughts?

  7. I have the rapalo digi scale that goes to 50 lbs and its dead accurate. I test it out every so often and its never more than an ounce out. even if it was a couple ounces out once in a while, who cares? I use it for my small tournaments that I do and as long as they're all getting weighed on the same scale it doesn't matter if it's out a couple ounces, which it's never been. Don't we all just round to the nearest quarter pound anyways? And if your worried about accurate weights for culling in a tournament, get a culling beam, nothing is more accurate and they're only $15.

  8. check out the mojo bass pitchin' stick then, you can use it for light to medium flippin applications too. I'm just a big st. croix guy thats all, wish they would sponsor me so I wouldn't have to spend so much! Not sure Rapala has really proven themselves in the rod market yet. I had one of their cheaper ones, not sure which model but around $40 I think, and it snapped pretty easily on me.

  9. If your using it primarly for the slop and heavy cover like timber, I would beef it up a little to a heavy power. I have the new mojo bass flippin stick and this thing can pull out the hogs from the thickest cover! It's a 7'11" heavy power with a moderate/fast action. The reason behind the moderate fast is because it's almost 8 feet long, and you don't need all that backbone, better use in a little more shock absorbtion. Really got to test it out when I set the hook into a nice 5.5 lber the other weekend, turned his head right away from the dock and when he jump and thrashed on the surface, the rod stayed perfectly loaded. I would definetly talk a look at the mojo bass rods from st. croix, they have a nice pitchin' stick too you might be interested in, and they all go for around $100! Best bang for your buck out there right now IMO.

    Just my 2 cents

  10. Once in a while I get a few buddies together and have a little bass derby, $50 a boat, $10 lunker.....the usual. Just don't like paying $300 to fish a tourney anymore. This time I decided on Cameron lake, I like to keep the lakes smaller so the bigger boats don't have as much of an advantage. The morning started off pretty good, the first hour we put a decent 2.5 lber in the boat, and lost a couple more with 5 or 6 undersized fish also. Then the bite slowed right down. Caught the odd undersized fish, but it wasn't until after noon when I pitched my jig next to a tree, snapped it a couple times and saw a nice 5lb class fish swim out and suck it in! Almost lost it when it decided to swim inbetween the shaft of my minnkota and tranducer cable, but my partner managed to get it in the net.

We had our limit by 2:30pm and weigh in was at 3:30pm. The lake was as rough was I've ever seen it, so we headed to a sheltered bay where almost everyone else was. I pitched my tube at a dock and when I went to lift it up I felt something funny, so I set the hook and angered and big largie! After a short battle and a jump that made my heart skip, we got another nice 5.5 lber in the livewell! We headed back to the weigh in and put over 17 lbs in the bag, good enough to take it!

Some other nice fish were brought in, second place had 14 lbs 11 oz with a 4 lb smallie and a 4 lb largie, 3rd had a nice 5 lb 4 oz largie and put 12 lbs in the boat, and 4 was around 11 lbs. Not bad for 6 boats!

one on left is just under 5, and righty is 5.5 lbs

  11. Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knew of some good shore fishing spots that are a close drive from brooklin. Living here temporarly and until I get back to bobcaygeon next year, the only close spots I know of are alway very busy and have cars flying by. (port perry causeway and just west of there). Any help would be appreciated, just looking for some panfish and will be releasing everything.

  12. I would check the tire and make sure it is susposed to have 80 psi. My tires say 80 psi but under a max load. I found the middle of the tread wore very quickly and the outer edges of the tread still had lots left, a sure sign of overinflation. After driving down the highway for a while, pull over and feel the tires. If they're really hot to touch, then they are defenitely overinflated. It cost me a couple of tires before I learned.

  13. I think everybody is pretty much back up now except maybe some remote areas. I work out of fenelon falls hydro and it's been a long last couple of days let me tell ya. Sturgeon lake took most of the damage, Long beach, snug harbour, pleasent point, thurstonia were among the worst. Just a wicked downburst apparently, wind speeds up to 100km/h. Anyways, be nice to those hydro workers out there, most of us are working minimum 16 hour days when these storms hit.

  14. I'm fishing some lake up by haliburton this weekend have located some nice largemouth, but I wanted to take a stab at some smallies. Just curious on how deep you get them in those lakes up there? I've caught a few just chucking a spinnerbait at shore, but I'm thinking those pigs are on bottom a litter deeper. Would draggin a tube in 30 FOW this time of year be unheard of?

  15. I have a 40HP 2 stroke oil injected Merc, it's either a 2004 or 2005 and am having some problems. The problem only occurs at a higher RPM, most noticably at full throttle. When I have it wide open, it seems like it's missing or not firing on all cyclinders (its a 3 cylinder) but I just had it tuned up and the carbs cleaned. It will run fine if I continuously adjust the trim up, down, up, down...and so on, but as soon as I stop adjusting the trim it starts doing it again. I'm thinking it might be electrical because I just spent $350 getting water removed from the carbs apparently.

I had this problem a couple years ago and I had it fixed and they told me it was something like a "starter coil" but I'm not completely sure. I just remember they showed me some wires that were melted together.

    Any thoughts?
