  1. Haha, sounds good. Thanks guys, just want it to happen now, Im all geared up for it but still got this wait and these last weeks of work to do. As for finding work, i wont be giving up, I wont be allowed, the girlfriend will confiscate the rod until I have found something if I dont sort something out sharpish!! lol. Just hope its easy enough to pick up unskilled work, suppose I'll find out all for my self in a few weeks Ans yes, I'll have to get myself a little report done when I've wet a line!
  2. As I'm on here more and more now, I thought I might as well do a bit of a thread on it. Well its all come around very quickly, but 2 weeks tomorrow, Ill be on a plane over the big pond on my way to new experiences in Toronto. All my paperwork is sorted, flights booked, health insurance cover etc sorted. Luckily my Girlfriend has already been living there a year and so all the hard work is done (sorting an appartment out, furniture etc). And its a nice place at Fork York on the water front in Toronto As much as Im excited about it Im crapping it aswell. Im working my notice (8 days left) on a job that paid well, nothing lined up in Toronto yet, not through the want of trying tho. 100's of emails and follow up calls and nothing. A few of the agencies have said Ive a better chance once Im there and can attend interviews/ start straight away, I just hope this is the case. I work as a Quantity Surveyor here in the UK, 7 years experience with 2 large Main Contractors, University degree from a 5 year day release course, graduated 2 years ago. So if anyone can give me any pointers on finding work (im looking at Quantity Surveying/Estimating/Cost Monitoring type roles) then please let me know. My only other idea so far is to try and get casual/unskilled work to take the pressure off while I try and get work relating to my career. Dont really know what Im writing here, suppost I'm just after settling my nerves maybe, info from people who have had a similar experience? Either way, I hope this turns out to be the best risk Ive ever took, its by far the biggest and isnt helped with the economy as it is today! Hopefully the fishing alone will make up for it
  3. Ahh got you. Well if anyone does want to drop me any pointers feel more than welcome to PM me. Or even better if you dont mind me tagging along at some point, get to know a few of you!
  4. Thanks for that have see adverts for the shop on the internet.
  5. Dont think I like the idea of it being crowded, Like the peace and quiet haha. Yeah, plan to get a licence and card?? when I arrive along with finding a cheap folding ned to stick in my rucksack. Wheres my best bet to head for the licence
  6. hey, careful what your saying lol I my be a newbie to the board asking about areas in Toronto, but its only cos Im not there yet to find out for myself haha. Im far from being a little rat or beginner. Got 20 years fishing under my belf and if I can fish well and constantly do well in competitions in the UK Im betting I can adapt out there. Anyhow, only pulling your chain, just after a head start as to where to head
  7. Even better for me then!! I've fished matches of upto a 1000 anglers (nationals) with 10 metres between pegs and only 14metres of canal in front of you, thats pressure haha Im really looking forward to the different way of fishing
  8. Ahh have seen your website when Ive been searching on the internet for information. I'll let you know how I get on.
  9. Fishing around the boats? Is there any issues with people fishing, like any no go areas along the front? whats it like up towards the water park/rememberance drive area?
  10. Dead carp somewhere then You need to invest in some good baitrunner reels and rear butt anchor rod rests!!
  11. Great catch, I plan to fish for a few Carp in the Toronto area when I get there! They dont seem to get half the pressures they do here in the UK
  12. Bit of an amatuer question, but when you say sucker, are they a type of carp cos they dont half look like it? lol
  13. I do the rice trick to soak up the moisture from the air/lures. I just tend to shake off all the excess water before putting them away, with a few grains of rice in the box, then just change the rice every couple of trips
  14. I've lost a bit of the quality in them when I uploaded them online as I did a bulk upload/resize. Anyhow, all where taken on my trips out to visit my Girlfriend last year in September and again in November. And in less than 3 weeks this will be my home for a year at least. All taken on a point and press compact camera using manual settings. Comments welcome and I can get better quality ones sorted if your interested. My appartment and the view Harbour front Downtown Toronto Islands Toronto 'V Festival' on the Islands Right enough of me boring you lol, hopefully the next lot of pictures I post will be of fish!!!! Tho I may post some up of my car yet.
  15. Thanks. Think I'll be picking your brains as soon as I land. Plan to bring my travel rod and lures to get me going, but Ill feel more at home targetting the carp so will see how things pan out once Im there, although do like the idea of exploring the islands/harbour front with the spinner rod. Are there any 'hotspots' to aim for or any no go areas?
  16. Sounds good. So where do I need to be heading to sort out my licence and the like? Also are there any nearby tackle shops?
  17. ahh, well Im up on the 14 floor! yeah looking forward to getting out there tho the idea of coming without having secured work is bothering me a little as I dont want to be left without a job all together. Will have to see how much weight I have left in my bag until I know how much of my tackle I can bring although I expect Ill be buying quite abit out there
  18. Ahh nice, yeah we have an appartment at 231 Fork York Bvd so will be near enough in the same location. Take it the pike and bass are taken on lures? Carp, they taken on boilies or that not something thats done out there? I did notice a large (25-30lb) carp dead near the water park? Last time I was over. Panfish? new one to me that!
  19. Well Ill be out there in 3 weeks and after Ive had a few weeks to settle in I plan to get my licence sorted and start with abit of fishing. With me living on the water front at Fork York, and only having public transport as a means to get aout its most likely I'll be spending my time over on the Toronto islands. Just after what fish Id expect and on what methods/baits/lures etc you'd fish for them, as obviously Im expecting things to be a little different then here in the UK. Is there anywhere else within a close distance worth trying? Any info or pointers much appreciated
  20. Well unsure about the picture, but I apologise now if it offended anyone. 3 weeks tomorrow and Ill be on that plane to you. Already got myself a rod and reel packed lol.
  21. That is some incredible fishing, and some immaculate fish. You could only dream of catching one of them pike in that condition and size in the UK. Good work, if this isnt getting me wanting to cast a line as soon as I land there then nothing will
  22. Umm, new one to me if there was a dodgy picture up in my Avatar :S Cudz, yeah thats my 306 rallye, Its my track car, currently going into storage while Im out in Toronto. Thanks for the info people, looks like I could get some good help and pointers from a few of you guys. I have been doing alot of searching around when it comes to the employment front in the hope of securing work before I got there. But unlike the UK, Ive found Canadian employers what you to start within 2 weeks, and are very personal in that they like to meet you in person and obviously thats an issue being 3500 miles away. Im not expecting any red carpet treatment but Im prepared to put the effort in, Im quite happy getting casual work if it means tieing me over until I secure full time work. So being serious about this, Ive enough money behind me to sort me out for the first month or two while I find work so figured my best chances are to come out there and get to meet these people. Im stuck to the Toronto area, as this is where my girlfriend is currently located, but Im willing to travel provided its places I can get on public transport. Then hopefully with that out the way, I can sort myself out some good fishing, have been looking into Toronto Islands and the like, places within easy reach (Ill be in an appartment on Fork York Blvd near the water front)
  23. Im fully qualified with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying, you dont really have them over there as such but similar rolls to Estimator, Cost Consultant, Project Managment etc. Most of my experiance is Main/General Contractor side, and Ive works on Schools, Refurbs, Residential and Retail. Both Pre and Post contract
