  1. Most of you wont even remember me, but signed up a while back and been quietly browsing the site. Well I've finally got my flights and all my paperwork sorted. Ill be over in Toronto from the 6th May, so hopefully Ill get to sample a bit of the fishing out there and compare it to here in the UK. 1st things 1st tho will be trying to find work in Toronto, so if anyone knows of anything, or any good recruitement places let me know. Even better if its in Construction, Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Cost Consultant/monitoring etc. So hopefull once Ive secured work, I'll be off down the local tackle shop to pick up a rod and what not along with the licences and stuff Ill need.
  2. Well Im a qualified Quantity Surveyor, working towards my chartership. Not quite sure you have QS's out there but its similar to a Constrution Estimator or Cost consultant. Im currently looking for work now in Toronto, as soon as I have a firm offer, Ill be on that plane to come and join you all haha.
  3. This is by no means a dig, I just wanted to get abit of a debate going as to how different it looks, granted, Ive only browsed through the most reacent posts. Drifter, I think you put it into proportion pretty well, and when you think its estimated that upto 10% of the UK fish, thats alot of people and not much water, I suppose thats why we have the culture here like we do. If Im honest, I cant wait to get there and try something different. Initially Im coming for a year, but you never know, this could soon get extended.
  4. Thats fair comments. I suppose I worded it wrong in saying 'all'. Just in comparison to here were only a very small persantage is taken, and thats purely the game/trout anglers.
  5. Well having only just signed up onto this forum today (must say, lots of good info, so thanks). But Ive noticed after reading a number of threads that the culturte out there is quite different to here in the UK in that you seem to eat almost everything that you catch. Here its very much catch and release, its only really the trout fisheries were you generally fish for the table, and then its all farmed fish. Just find it interesting how different cultures vary in there view on fishing. Personally I dont really eat fish, so on that basis would have no intention on fishing for the table, I fish purely for the please of it! Just wondering on your thoughts really, tho I suppose if its always been that way for you, it would be odd for someone like me to say that almost all our fishing is catch and release.
  6. Thanks for all the replies TBH I have never had the chance to fish for walleye or bass before, can only asume its similar methods to what I would use here back in the UK for Pike and Perch. Ill defo be in touch once Im out there and might take a few of you up on the offer of showing me whats what locally.
  7. Thanks for the info on licences. Looks like toronto islands will be worth a shot. Back over here, fish I target which are the same to what you have there are Perch, Pike, trout and Carp. To be honest, Ive never had the opportunity to target any of the other fish you have there. Similar methods then? Bottom fish or float tactics for the carp/perch (obviously baits and tackle to suit) and then lure fishing for pike/perch? What methods am I likely to pick up the other species you have over there?
  8. Hi all. Did a quick search on google and this forum popped up so thought Id sign up. Basically after advice on places to fish close to toronto or within easy reach on public transport. Im currently in the UK but my girlfriends lives and works in downtown Toronto, and Im looking to join her around June time this year. I do alot of fishing here in the UK, mainly course angling. I've all intentions to get a bit of a set up (rod/reel/terminal gear etc) once Im out there, but want to make sure there are places within easy reach 1st, as the last few visits out to Toronto has made me realise just how vast the place is. also, what are the requirements in terms of permits and licences? I know back here in the UK I need to have a valid licence and permits. Also whats the main methods and target fish? Sorry for all the questions, but any suggestions very much appriciated. Ben
