  1. I just picked up a 4000 series Pflueger Supreme XT for my trip to the Attawapiskat, and am wondering other's experience with this reel? Also, I was wondering whether having a high 'max drag' rating on a reel is a significant indicator of the reel's quality? Is higher better, or is it not really a big deal? 'Max drag', if I understand it correctly, is basically the maximum amount of tension your reel's drag can be tightened to (i.e. if you turn your drag at the top or bottom or your reel until it is as tight as it can go, and then pull line out). Thanks.
  2. Maybe I'm just naive, but can you not continue fishing via catch-and-release after you have gotten your limit?
  3. Still struggling with getting that pin out. I have it push into the hole but aren't able to get it much further. There isn't much space to work with a hammer or anything to give it any force...
  4. Just wondering if anyone knows how to put on a new counter spring on a Big Jon Sportsman downrigger. Mine snapped recently and I ordered a new one and want to put it on myself. I know I have too take off the reel assembly but there is a metal pin that is stopping it from coming off. Anyone know how the right way to put a new counter spring on? Thanks in advance! Josh
  5. Wow, that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. However, with the one rod per person rule on GB, I may have to try some variation of this out.
  6. You lost me, Wayne. I understand the main line/cheater (fixed and slider) setup, but your tip about the crank bait/spoon setup at the end of the main line confused me.
  7. I think I understand. Do you actually slip the rubber band loop onto the swivel snap before you close it? Is the rubber band able to go into your reel when you bring the fish in if it hits on the cheater? What happens if you get a fish on the main line?
  8. I usually tighten the slack to the max so that my rod/line is as tight to the release as possible. Will a free slider/cheater work in this case still? Also, do you ever have problems with the two swivels tight against each other when you're fighting a fish?
  9. Do those work for you, Anders? I guess my thoughts on that are that you don't know exactly what depth that line is trolling at, and when you get a fish on it aren't there issue with line snaps when the cheater swivel slides down to the main line swivel?
  10. Welcome aboard the board! Were you in the Top 50 tournament in Parry Sound? What enticed the beast to bite? And trolling or casting? I saw a lot on opening weekend, but they were not moving.
  11. Just wondering if anyone has used the Elberta Clip'er Fixed Slider to add lines/lures when downrigging. If so, what was your experience? Are there any alternatives to this product (only a few distributors and all in the U.S.)? What is the best way to home-rig a slider? http://www.legendaryproduct.com/Fixed_Slider_1.asp Thanks!
  12. As far as I know there are no free launches (unless you are friends with somebody) in Pointe au Baril. There is a launch right in town, but it will cost you a pretty penny. Try calling Desmasdons Boatworks in Pointe au Baril. Maybe they can point you in the right direction (705-366-2581).
  13. Any idea where I could pick up one of those Cannon Singles? (Parry Sound) Canadian Tire here has nothing like that. Maybe Barrie?
  14. Just wondering whether anyone has used the Scotty Cable Coupler product as the terminal kit for their downrigger cable? Is it any good? Am I better off with the conventional metal terminal kit? No. 1038 Cable Coupler http://www.scotty.com/fishing-gear-equipment/downrigger-accessories/terminal-kits-stopper-beads.htm
  15. Can you remove the graph from the ice pack and transom mount it in the summer? Also, Limey, I would love to see how you made your summer transducer portable by clamping it to your transom.
  16. Limey, Love your setup. Would it be pretty easy to set mine up the same as yours? What is that blue divider piece you have your graph mounted to? Does Cdn Tire sell that same cooler still? Thanks for the tips! Josh
  17. Yeah, that works, Bill. Was trying to avoid having to buy the charger. However, I did not realize RadioWorld sold them as a combo. Does the x67c ice machine come with the charger?
  18. I have a quick battery question related to this X67C topic, and is posted under the following topic: http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...mp;#entry435710
  19. Would a battery charger like this work on this battery?
  20. I am interested in buying the Lowrance X67C unit for use in summer and winter. Just looking for some advice on where to buy in Canada (best price) online or in store (Ontario). I am also wondering whether to get the Ice Machine unit or just set up the transom mount model to work through the ice. Will the results be the same or does the winter transducer do a much better job through the ice? Finally, I would like to know boat speed and it doesn't look like the X67C (transom mount) transducer comes with this feature (only tells temperature not speed), but you would have to purchase an optional transducer to accomplish this. Is this true? Cheers, Josh
