I have a couple tinnies stashed away in the bush at a lake trout lake in central Ontario and I have never had any problems with them.

I think what the problem is that the MNR and people using the lake for that matter don't want the shoreline littered with old aluminum

boats so just be respectful and take that extra effort and pull them up into the bush a little bit and if your boat is damaged take it out

with you , don't leave it there to become part of the landscape

There is a backwoods bass lake I go to and over the last couple years guys have been stashing boats at the launch area and it is starting to look like a dumping ground , there is actually an old fiberglass bowrider back there (I have no idea how they got it there)and it just sits there on the shoreline collecting water and it looks terrible ! I don't think it would even float anymore , do you think the owner will pull it out of there , not a chance.

The old saying "out of sight , out of mind" really applies here .

I just bought a new shimano compre casting rod and I like it but i'm not to sure about these new grips they come with. It seems that the handle

behind the reel is a little narrow for my hand and this new material they use instead of cork makes it slide around just enough to think about it !!

Of course it feels good in the store but start casting around and jigging with it and my view on these new handles change a bit.

I was thinking about these handle wraps I have seen a couple guys use and was wondering if I wrapped the handle it would solve my

little problem.Has anyone here used these wraps on there rods and could offer some feedback ?

is on a whole different level !

White/Silver or Black Shad bucktails tipped with a 4" gulp minnow and homemade treble stinger , probably catch a 100 lake trout

on this set up each year !

Hi , my name is Dave and I have been around this great discussion board for 12 years now . I live in a small town called Mansfield just NW of Alliston and love the small town/country livin !

I have been fishing all my life and growing up beside a small brook trout stream in Caledon was where it started. I use to travel to some real backwoods places when I was young with my friends and there dads with 4X4's and that is were my passion for backwoods adventures started. As well my uncle would take me to a great bass lake annually called Lingham Lake for some real adventures. Myself and a couple friends continued this tradition untill a couple years ago when the lake just became too crowded and messy for that true backwoods feel ( sad really )

I now enjoy finding that backwoods honey hole and getting there either in my trusty toyota 4X4 , quad or just portaging in .

I don't get out much in the winter to ice fish but spend the winter time working and saving for my many soft water trips of the summer/fall

I also enjoy reading this board everyday and I have had alot of laughs doing so as well as learning alot of things along the way !

Great report and nice catch ! I get out quite a bit for lake trout during the soft water season and this is what I have figured out

on the couple lakes I fish.

I agree with Mike , leave the steel line at home and get yourself some deep diving cranks like the rapala tail dancer(this bait will dive to 25')

and long line with some braid . Since the lakes I fish are some what clear (10'-15' visibility) I always tie on a 4' fluorocarbon leader.

A lake trout has no problem seeing and chasing a bait from a great distance , seen them come up off bottom 30' to nail my jig on the finder YE HA !!!

I have also found good sucess with bucktail jigs and a gulp minnow trailer , this bait has been so good for me I use it 90% of the time

and hardly ever troll anymore !

I have found that the smaller or less active lake trout roam the deep basins of the lake , and when you see them on your finder in 30'-40'

of water they are at that depth to feed and are active . I don't even waste my time anymore on those deep fish , I head straight for the

outside of the deep basins in the 20'-50' areas and if you can find a steep drop off in that area even better !

If you can find them I have a couple reports on here with some good lakers I caught with my jig set up , one of them was my personal

best at just under 32"

Did not get an email response back so I did it the "old fashioned" way and picked up the phone and called them . Talked to a nice lady at berkley and she said that she has never heard of this happening before but said that high heat like prolonged exposure to direct sunlight might cause some deterioration of the product.I advised her that I have never had this problem before and that they were stored in a tackle binder and not left in the sun, at least not outside of normal use . She asked for a couple numbers off of the pouches and said they would replace them for me

So thanks to berkley for great customer service

Sent berkley an email yesterday about this problem, so now I wait to see if I get any response . I will let you guys know when I hear something !

Leak? Or not sealed after use?

I have left them not sealed before and all they did was dry up , not melt into a bag of goo !

I'm sure almost everyone here has used these things with mixed results and I never really had much luck with them untill I discovered that the lake trout in one of the lakes I fish absolutely love these things , anyways I had 4 packs left in my bag and on the weekend when I went to use them the minnows inside the pouches had all melted/disintegrated Has this ever happened to anyone else here ?

I have been using these minnows for awhile now and this has never happened before , I have used them in sun,cold,rain and no problems untill now !
