  1. Ive been donating money for years to help re populate Toronto with bears. I pulled up the map quick. Theres a rail line that runs south of lake scugog right into the area where the bear was shot. For a bear it not that far to travel. Theres a good documentary on coyotes in Toronto and its assumed they use the rail lines to navigate through the city, id imagine lots of animals use it the same way. There probably shouldnt be bears wandering around Toronto, Id feel sorry for what the bear had to deal with everyday!!! lol The biggest bear Ive ever seen was at 9pm walking through Terrace Bay, it was huge.
  2. That's a nice part of the country. From what I've heard Mattice has well outfitted camps. Sounds like you have a good idea of what you need. When I go up fishing with the plane. I take a boat, motor, outboard fuel, tent, sleeping bags, food, kitchen, fishing tackle, etc with me and it's about 200lbs, with stuff for 2 guys. Now we are roughing it and eating a lot of dried food. But comfortable. Realistically 150lbs is a ton of stuff for one person.
  3. 150lbs each is pretty generous. Some outfitters have deals, like if you order the food and drinks ahead of time they fly it in free. You get made fun of If you have to much stuff. Worst I dealt with was 700lbs of just food and snacks. Another example was 24 cases of beer for 6 days. Worst thing I saw--- was the camp change day was poor weather. We told the guys we would make a trip but might have to turn around so they should take there sleeping bags, toiletries and medication and some food on their person, incase the second plane (with the rest of their gear) couldn't make it in. They bravely decide they only needed their fishing tackle and left in the beaver and got into the camp. The 180 with their food, sleeping bags, meds, change of clothes didn't get there till the second day. It was early season, cold, wet and windy. Also flying in cases of water or the blue jugs is your biggest waste of useful weight! Get a water treatment system/processor. Some good ones around 100$ will filter 2L of water per minute. IMO a big tackle box isn't necessary either, ask your outfitter what they are using to catch fish, he will probably only suggest a few colours of jigs and a couple plugs or spoons. I took a quick look at the list and looks like way to much stuff to me. Your outfitter should look after some of those things relating to the cabin and boats and motors. I would ask if there is a coffee pot and utensils etc, axe.... And remember if the fridge and freezer are propane (probably are) if you pack it full in hot weather, it will not function as expected. Can I ask which outfit and which lake?
  4. I think you will find them right in town. Make sure you stay on public land.
  5. I flew up to wawa last weekend and most of the ice was gone only left in the centre on the bigger lakes. Just visited with some friends. I won't be back up fishing until June but I've got a few lakes around Chapleau circled on my map!
  6. Id go aluminium all day. You say small lakes and the 2 bigger ones you listed are rocky. Aluminium doesn't take a structural beating from the sun. Rivets are easier to replace then stressed fibreglass. And I believe aluminium boats are lighter than fibreglass, I know smaller boats for sure. So if your dealing with rocks, logs, shallow water, and want the boat forever Id buy aluminium. (sounds like it with the lakes you listed) On the other hand fibreglass is quieter, and IMO handles rough water better, but I mean the great lakes.
  7. Actually the river comes out of kathleen lake on the west side of windermere lake.
  8. Anyone fished the windermere river system that comes in the west end?
  9. I'll be heading to Chapleau when the ice is out with my brother in law. Now I've got to wait. Any more tips on lakes in other areas are still appreciated
  10. Any eyes around elliot lake, north bay or mostly trout lakes?
  11. I did not know about Bing. Thanks for all the good map info Dempsey
  12. Ya I have anchored before, not my favourite way to leave the plane. Also used a few leaners hanging out in the water to tie up. Flew for some guys in Red lake and T Bay. I just don't know the land Wawa and South much. Google earth has been my friend too for finding beaches. Im searching around Chapleau right now, got in contact with MNR and tourism there. I won't be using an outfitter or cabin. Tents fine for me. Thanks for the tips guys!
  13. I think I'd need a twin otter for everyone that wants to fly in fishing lol. I see there's a bunch of lakes north and east of abitibi park. I was looking back north of chapleau aswell. I like to have a lake marked on the map that I know has a good beach to park. For a three day trip unfortunately it goes quick especially if you are crushing around lake to lake burning time and fuel trying to find a productive lake.
  14. This summer I'm planning to do some fly in walleye fishing. I have my own float plane. IM looking for lakes from the White River- Timmins areas and lower with NO or LIMITED drive in access. I take my porta-boat and a tent. I need a safe spot to tie or beach the plane. Quebec side would be good too. I know of several incredible lakes in the Thunder Bay district (no access unless you have a floatplane and no camps) You would limit out in 15 mins. But I don't live up there anymore and Its to far to fly for a weekend trip.
