  1. Hi, Well thanks for the kind words. No doubt about the "Real Deal" behind the hunting. It is about getting out in the bush, hearing no cars; seeing no people ... don't get me wrong, if ol' Rustyhorns woulda stumbled by, instead of the rabbit ... I'da figured something out on getting that gun up. I enjoy it. Yeah, was neat to see the young guy get that buck. That's funny on the TV show. So yeah, glad you liked it ... but be honest, really: do I fit the Mary Poppins look? (Actually, on a serious note - from someone who's had sunstroke and is now very susceptible. Be careful with that stuff. It can be pretty serious; very serious if it's ignored and you just stay out. It hits like a hammer, and if symptoms of nausea and headache start - get out of the sun and stay out.) Pete
  2. I had heard of this several months ago (actually can't recall exactly where) ... kinda wondered if it was really true, but then, considering government in general, I guess nothing is ever really a big surprise. It's definitely not a good thing; even more amazing for Canada frankly ... can think of few places on earth that would rely on natural resources for so much. Well, one thing is for sure, if this is the case, even those of you who detest the idea of tattle-taling, will hopefully be watching and willing to turn in folks who overharvest the resource. I always try to look at the bright side of things. Who knows, "IF' the caring angling public pays attention and is ready and willing to turn folks in who take more than their share (legally too) fish, possibly the focus mainly on that - could be positive. One thing I've always said, that besides checking to be certain folks have licenses, it always seemed like way too much effort by CO's is concentrated on nailing people for silly little stuff (like not enuf cushions, or a paddle or ..), while folks that blatantly overharvest fish get little attention. 3. Hey OFners, I'm still trying to catch up from the chaos of business-stuff ... after screwing-off chasing deer for a week. (Oh, and we had that U.S. holiday too, where we chase turkeys, and the one's we catch - we eat and say "thanks".) Anyway, I said I'd offer a deer hunting report. I have nothing to offer on my end. I didn't shoot a thing. I saw does, fawns, smaller bucks ... but never pulled the trigger. Our family hunts a "lot" ... I have two brothers and a hunting-crazy dad ... we don't really "need" to kill every deer we see during the WI season. Anyway, I (we) had a blast as always: enjoyed the woods and the solitude ... was in some great places ... at one point, in a very thick swamp, I ran across this rabbit - covered in Vasoline - ears tied-back - skinny thing ... kinda talking-fast ... was fed up with the thick terrain, and asked if I could just put 'em out of his misery ... said he couldn't deal with it ... I couldn't get my gun up in the heavy cover ... he pointed toward the sun and ... Kinda made that up ... 'cept for the part about being in real thick swamps. A great time was had by all. Kinda neat, cuz the last day, a younger guy (18) got his first buck: a nice 10 pointer with a 21 inch spread ... neat to see the smiles. Hope things are well for all. In a week or so, I get to go with dad to Iowa and try again. Happy December hear the cold is coming in as I write. Pete
  4. Now that's a whopper ... I can't wait for spring! Pete
  5. Hi all, Thanks for the kind words on The Next Bite TV. Glad to see that a lot of you are seeing it on WFN. Really do appreciate the good comments. We're excited about this upcoming year too, as we just started the editing process on the coming year's shows ... some great stuff on the way. Truly have some very talented young guys putting it together for us. (Of course the whole thing is a little tough right now, as the deer season is on here ... hard for me to concentrate on stuff like editing. Still waiting for my big buck to stumble by.) Best, Pete
  6. Thanks a lot Brick, Wish I could tell you I had a grand plan in looking back while casting ... but frankly not that I recall ... certainly mustn't have been any trees in the way. Well, signing off here for the weekend ... off to get my son and get all the orange stuff ready. Pete
  7. Boy, that fish sure looks similar to me. Interesting thing is if it is the same one, it appears to have a better build than prior, which is cool. Either way, it's way cool. Pete
  8. Hi, Up early here getting prepped for the "up early" routine tomorrow. Yeah, I think I'm the real Pete Maina. I'd look in the mirror too be sure, but hate to scare myself this time of day. Hope folks that can, will check out the GIllespie show that runs next week. The 52 was a horse (thankfully, it didn't poop in the boat like the others). Hope those who can will be watching our Next Bite TV ... and those of you who don't get our The Next Bite - Esox Angler magazine ... do you know what Santa's highest-recommended holiday gift is? We've got great info on walleyes, pike and muskies. Of course Sandy (hi there) is a regular writer now too - and much appreciated. Mice? Yikes. Actually Bill, sounds as though will be heading up north for big pike again ... also hopefully Devils Lake first ice. Yup, Tracker is going to be officially put to bed in the garage later today ... a little sad ... but deers and ice fishing ain't bad. Pete
  9. HI, Well thankyou fishergirl! Great to hear you're walleye freaks ... Pete
  10. Hi All, Thanks for the kind words all I do appreciate the "welcome" here Ha ha ... that's cool Mistyriver. Oh I know there's still time Gman. But fall's so darn confusing: sooooo many fun things to do it's just completely disturbing to me that some of it can't be moved to March/April. FYI that deer season here is more than just an event (with my family in particular) ... the world stops for deer season ... I recall one time I did tell dad was going to take a day off from deer season to fish ... a completely bewildered look, tears ... just can't do that to him again. Hey Joey ... how'd you get in that cooler? Is the cooler deal something to get back at the suspended fish? Again, thanks for kind words on the show and all ... TJ, think you're on the wrong post friend ... "Mr." ... ? Pete
  11. Hi all, The new board here looks great! Just wanted to drop in here and say hi. Had a good late fall ... cleaned the boat out this morning and getting after the winterizing (what a mess; simple astounding how much gear a muskie freak can cram in a 21 foot Tracker ... on top of some other surprises, I found I had nearly 4 dozen Power Bars, several bags/cans of nuts and one unidentified object that I think was dropped with a "fish-on" alert). Finished with a good muskie show for The Next Bite last week, and just returned last night from final open water show with GIllespie. Great way to end, as a tough day, but our one and only bite was a 52. And, as I pulled the boat in the garage, noticed a delivery with perfect timing - my new Jiffy ice auger had arrived. Starting Saturday, it's after the deer ... in evenings string some tip-ups and look forward to ice in December. Hope all had a great fall! Pete
  12. Hi all, New board looks great. Hey, never thought I'd see a "pocket fisherman" again ... I had one at one time. No clue where it is now though. Pete
  13. Hi all, So what's this numbers deal? Not sure I got one, but expect a little late for single digits. New site looking good here. Pete
