Great report guys!!!

.Does someone have room for TMH on a boat? This is not a good thing he is on GCD's team and they don't need one of those long walleye to add to there allready too many inches
Mike
Guys, I guess I left this too late....no worries, I'll try and make the next G2G in June next year up at Lakair
Mike, as far as the tourny entries go....I have 3 Quinte day trips planned so far and I'm hoping that one of those outings will result in some additional inches for SABIKI SLAMMERS
Good luck Guys!!

Guys...there's a chance that I may be able to join you if there's enough room...I've got all the gear (cranks, in-line planer boards, etc...) and can bring my 14' deep hull Smokercraft with a 15HP or if someone has room on a larger boat I'll split the cost of gas for the duration of being there...
From what I've read you guys are headin down there on Nov13th and leaving on the 15th??

This is a BUMP for a post I put up earlier before newbie "carpstarter2" added his .000000000000000002 cents worth to this post

Nice looking eye Shawn....it's only going to get better down there on the BOQ within the next little while!!...Hoping to get down to the Bay with Don and Mike (Eric) a couple of times before the ice sets in!!
-
Congrats on your first Salmon...
-
Nice looking ski and congrats on your PB!!...they sure look different down there compared to the olive green ones here on the Ottawa R.
-
Obsessive yes....crazy NO way!!....I love to see these cooler frosty mornings starting to come....this will get those big Ottawa R. Skis to start their fall gorging
.......I'll keep my pontoon boat on the river until the first good 1" of ice starts to form before I take it off...hopefully that won't happen until mid Dec
......heading out shortly for a Musky hunt

90% of my fishing is done alone and I just follow a couple of rules...
1) I couldn't stand wearing a big bulky PFD, so I reached into my pocket and spent some $$$$$ for an auto-inflatable PFD that is lightweight and I wear it ALL the time now!!
2) I always keep my cell with me but some of the back trout lakes I go to will not give me any signal....so, to cover that off I leave the name of the lake with my wife, along with GPS waypoints to the lake and an appoximate time that I will back home.
As far as hooking into a big Muskie by myself, I bought a Frabil Power Catch landing net which essentially is like a holding pen. I keep a measuring tape, bolt cutters, and pliers at hands reach and I always setup my tripod with the camera attached before I even set a line out...
So far, so good

Nice report and catch
....looks like you've got some good back road lakes up there to fish from....a winch is a good idea and NOT one of those CTC 2 ton $30 jobs....invest in an electric front mount winch with a remote and you'll have no issues next time you're out..
-
Definately is a Heron...congrats on breakin the curse and gettin some trout!!
-
I use 12lb P-Line which was suggested by Sheldon last fall and I'm "hooked" on that line!!....I was out with Don (Badger Shark) last year and we pulled in some pretty big gals including a huge pike out of the Bay with no probs whatsoever!!
-
What else is creeping behind that steel grating Glen
.....nice pics and report!!

Great report guys....

Well, I didn't expect to ever post a pic of a pan fish while out targeting Muskie but seeing how I caught my first and only Crappie this afternoon, I thought I'd post it for a laugh!!!
Went out on the Ottawa with Leechman (Jacques) today in search of a nice fall fatty Lunge....we tried everything from 13" cranks to Bucktails...nadda!!! Leechman did manage to get a snot rocket to hit on a 10" Jake though
...the winds died down and now we're faced with glass type conditions on the river...so we decide to stop trolling and enjoy some peace and quiet, watch the geese fly by over us, and drift fish in the current for some eyes.....Leechman was able to get into two Saugers and a Channel cat which we decided were not worthy of taking pics
.....
But, I did manage to get this guy and Jacques was quick with the camera to commemorate the moment of my first ever Crappie...12"

that fish is a GREAT catch and a lucky catch by the looks of the rodholder. I am pretty certain that set up is NOT meant for the trophy class fish that swim in that river. Please consider a Down East set up or possibly a Scotty. Both are meant for fish of the caliber in your picture. Feel free to pm me if you need more info.
It certainly is a GREAT catch for two guys going out on their very first attempt at catching the elusive Muskie...CONGRATS Kevin and Ryan!!!!!!.....
As far as the rod holder goes, they have already been educated since this post on Down-East rod holders and I'm sure that Kev's boat will be equipped with them the next time he goes out for another hunt!!....I'm just tickled pink that these two young fella's were able to get out and catch a 50+" trophy (which BTW I believe was the size of this fish) and land it and release it quickly like pros!!
-
Nice report and pics....fav is the first picture
-
She sure is a beauty....clean, healthy and BIG!!....I'd put her into the 50+" trophy range...Jacques (Leechman), ask Kevin if he measured right down to the tail??...
We're just heading to the rink now to watch our Granddson play hockey......the boat is all gased up and the gear is loaded..I'll see you here at the house at 9:00AM, and hopefully we'll be able to hunt down one or two of those girls today

Smelt are an introduced species and do alot of damage to native species. I would imagine that the bans are to completely remove the risk of viable eggs being brought into a new system. It's good advice to try and trap bait in the lake that you are fishing, or at least use a species that is present.
I don't understand what "Smelt are an introduced species and do alot of damage to native species" means??????
I know more than a handful of Lakes that I fish that have had smelt in them since I can remember and the native species are forging on them
-
Looks like a good season....Out of curiousity, did any of your clients qualify for a weekly prize with a big Salmon during the 6 week Salmon Derby??
-
You cannot use smelt as bait in certain Zones and I believe there are certain lakes that prohibit the use of smelt as well....here is a couple of extracts from the 2008 Ontario Regs on some of the Zones.....I did a quick a search for smelt:
OTHER ZONE 2 REGULATIONS
Smelt may not be used as bait or possessed for use as bait
OTHER ZONE 5 REGULATIONS
Smelt may not be used as bait or possessed for use as bait

It's a no-brainer T.J.!
... buy Old Millwaukie stock!!!
Damn you Glen..
...You mean to tell me I bought the wrong stock???????
....this is what I poured my life savings into a few days ago
