8 to 12 inches...............
We were fishing a flat and on both sides there was current ,,, thats where the 8 inches was
I kinda figured the ice wasn't getting thicker just because of that pile of snow that's on top along with the slush....Hey Paul, remember how your line was going on an angle under the ice last weekend at the second place we drilled holes before lunch????
....lot's of current
-
Must be a good 2' feet.... It looked like they had flooded the road again.... driving on bare black ice
Jacques, I know the ice road thickess is over 2' because they have been flooding it and there's no snow on it...but, when we were up last weekend, there was only ~12" of ice where we fished off of the ice road....I was just wondering what the thickness was where you guys setup camp yesterday?

Well don't order online from Mike's reel repair on the west coast. Been waiting since Dec 15 for the handle retainer for my 700B that fell apart on the Niagara on the 13th. Can't even get them to return an email...
Wayne...if you want, I'll talk to the folks at reel to reel and see if they have the part that you need!!...then I'll mail it to you..

Amazing day you had guys!!!....what a great way to spend a day
-
Steve we parked along the road , where that local dude sent us , but this time we walked to the islands that were over to the right of us ,The ones that were one KILOMETER away.......
Lots of time left to go back
I know exactly where you went Paul
how thick was the ice off the ice road??....I'm hoping that after we get this warmer weather forecasted this week and rain, I'll be able to bring the ATV up and drive to the "new" hot spot!!......Not to keen on walking one KILOMETER through knee high snow and 6" of slush....
but then again, Kevin's a young lad and can carry our stuff
-
Good one guys!!!....looks like a great day outing!
Hmmmmm....so you guys took me up to that Whitie Lake last weekend and we fished an area that doesn't produce eh???
....I'll remember that come Muskie season
-
Imagine that!!!
A critter... running thru the snow!!!
In Canada!!!
In the winter!!!
Who'da ever thunk!
-
your welcome up anytime, if ya come bring Jacques and Whitespinnerbait with ya!
Thanks Simon, you never know...I just might take you up on that sometime this year
Bring Jacques with me and Whitespinnerbait
......Jacques would need an Ontario Fishin' license which he's not to KEEN on buyin'
...we discussed this last weekend while fishin' in Quebec
...so if anything, I'd be comin' up with Whitespinnerbait......unless Jacques decides to change his mind after seeing this
-
Some nice lookin' fish ya got here!!...congrats!
-
I use to fish Hogs Back falls (part of the Rideau River system) in Ottawa some 39yrs ago for Carp when i was 11yrs old
......there was a small ice cream and chip stand in the area and I would go through the trash and pick out leftover fries for bait....the Carp devoured them!!
-
Super report Simon!!!......man I wish I was out there with ya!!!
-
Great topic
...I have a 4x4 Kawasaki 650 BruteForce ATV and it gets me to most of my backwoods lakes almost all year long, except for when we get a winter with lots of snow!!
......the quad is powerful, but the ITP Mudlite tires just dig down in deep snow to a point where the bike gets hung up on the undercarriage and then that's it...you're done!!
I also have an older sled that my wife uses now but even then, I've had nightmare trips burying it in deep snow while trying to break trail gettin' into some of the trout lakes. and then having to pull it out ..
This is my next purchase for the ATV and then there's no stopping me as far as where I can get to year round!!!...
The track kit is a little steep ($3800), but I figure it would cost me around the same $$$$ to buy a used sled.....on top of that I'd have to pay insurance for the sled and then spend the $$$ on yearly maintenance....

I've had my HH Alpha suit for a couple of years now and it's the best bang for your buck!!...I'm 5'11" 210lbs and have an XL.....the L was tight around the armpits...
If you're going to buy one from Le Barons ($279), I would recommend buying a Le Baron membership card for $25 when you get up to the cash!!
....this card will get you 10% off on all of your items that you buy there for a full year....right off the bat, the HH suit with the discount will be reduced to $251
And another thing, you really don't have to put layers of clothes on underneath the suit....I normally only wear a long sleeve t-shirt and sweat pants....the suit will keep you extremely warm!!
-
I own Kamik boots as well....I just replaced the liners last weekend and after 7hrs of fishing in the frigid cold and 5" of top water my feet were toasty.....I also ONLY wear pure wool socks!
