  1. Quality Hotel in Downtown Ottawa is pretty decent. I stay there a few times a year whenever I'm in town for business. Around $120/night (Just tell them you're in town on business). They have underground parking for $9 a day. There is a Don Cherry's restaurant in the lobby. There is also a grocery store across the street if you prefer grabbing some eats for the road. Oh, and I can't forget the LCBO right across the street. There are many shops and restaurants along Rideau, just don't stray too far down the side streets. I've seen a few unsavory characters lurking around the poorly lit sections of the area.
  2. I own this one. I love it. Picked it up at a t-shirt vendor in Waikiki. I tried to post a pic. Here is a link if the upload didn't work. http://hawaiiapparel.net/images/tshort/tsh...dysn_008_cl.jpg
  3. OK...No takers. Any recommendations from a Sault Ste. Marie resident to a visitor with limited time for exploration? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Hi all, Not looking for dinner and a movie. I'm a Novice Fly Fisherman (Just over one year experience) and I will be in SSM on Tuesday the 25th on (Monkey) Business. I should arrive late afternoon/evening and was looking to hook up with another Fly Fisher for a couple of hours fishing. I'll have my own vehicle and I'll be packing my waders for the trip. I don't mind a little travel to the destination. Please let me know if you're interested. Thanks.
  5. Love the sound of those engines. I knew growing up that my Grandfather was in the Air Force during the War but it wasn't until he passed away a few years ago that I learned he was a Tailgunner in a Lancaster. During his funeral a story was told about his plane being shot down and only he and a few others survived the crash into water. If you have members of your family that survived the war, make a point of talking to them about it. I never did but I wish I would have. They may not be interested in talking about it until someone asks them.
  6. Thanks for the info lunker. Check your PM.
  7. Is one creek preferable over the other?
  8. Hi all, No longer a true Paris-ite. Made the move to Oakville in December. Having the Grand River so close was great for the Smallmouth fishing habit that I quickly became addicted to. I am planning on taking advatage of the double digit temperatures on Wednesday morning and there are a couple of choices that I have available to me here in Oakville...Basically from the lake up to the 407 on both Bronte Creek and Sixteen Mile Creek. With Bass being closed now (Can't wait until it opens, I hear there are good Smallies in the Sixteen) it seems as though Pike and Perch are my options from Oakville Pier and I'm not sure what one would come across at Bronte Pier. Any recommendations for either creek? I could also unpack the chest waders so I wouldn't be limited to just pier fishing. I realize the sensitivity of posting "Creek X on the east bank just around the bend that is 300m north of the fallen rocks" but any general location and species info would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't be offended by a PM or two with a little more specific info. Thanks all. Looking forward to new fishing adventures...With mandatory trips back to the Grand.
  9. Hahahahahahaha! Fishing with 2 rods (I'm not sure that's legal from land), targeting a species that you don't know how to handle and not having a net with you? That reminds me of the Trailer Park Boys...All I was tryin' to do was have a nice cheeseburger picnic and it got all f*cked up! I loved the commentary at the end and how the video got cut off just like the fish! Classic!
  10. Hey fatherof3, Where in town is that gravesite?
  11. Good job fatherof3! I drive by the dam almost daily and smile when I see that no one is there. Just a sense of satisfaction that everyone is following the rules and knowing that it is a Sanctuary for a good reason. It really bothered me to read that these guys were completely ignoring the signs that are posted there. These guys definitely need a lesson on the regulations as Page 1 in the General Fishing Regulations states: "Do Aboriginal people need an Outdoors Card? Members of Ontario Aboriginal communities, having established aboriginal and treaty rights, do not require an Outdoors Card or Ontario fishing licence tag to take fish for personal use within their traditional or treaty territory. Personal use is defined as for food, social or ceremonial purposes. Individuals should be prepared to provide identification when showing their community membership. Members of Aboriginal communities fishing outside of their traditional or treaty areas must have a valid Ontario Outdoors Card and fishing licence tag." First, this is not "traditional or treaty territory". Second, there are posted signs showing that the area is a Sanctuary between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30. (I was carded when I was fishing there (Legally) the day the MNR Officer wrote the dates onto the sign.) Third, Status Card or not there is no reason for anyone to act like such a jerk, especially not in front of children. Good for you! I hope this is followed up swiftly and severely. Thank you!
  12. Thanks...Off I go! I'll let you know how I made out.
  13. Hi all, Lookin' at playing hooky from work this afternoon but have a commitment near the Airport at 5pm so I have to stay in the area. After clicking and dragging through Google Maps, it looks as though the Humber River would be the best spot that is close by. Anyone have any tips on some quiet (And Safe) spots on the Humber in the Eglinton/Scarlett area? Possibly any other spots near the airport? Thanks for your help.
  14. Does Paris count? I'm about 20 minutes from Ancaster which is technically Hamilton now.
  15. Hey Everybody! New to the board but I must admit I've been lurking the threads for the past couple of weeks. There's a lot of new info posted here every day that's been quite helpful. It's good to see such an active membership!! I have recently renewed my interest in fishing and I have to say...my wife hates it! She'll get used to it. I live about 3 minutes from the Grand River in Paris (Hence the Screen name - Paris-ite) and have enjoyed fatherof3's posts. Every time I pass over the High Bridge in town I look down below to see if I can find him and his kids casting a line. I've had some pretty decent luck on the river lately but it's all been from land. I'm heading to Bass Pro Shops tomorrow to pick up some waders. Hopefully that'll get me a little closer to some of those sweet spots that just can't be reached from land! It's good being here and I'll check in soon.
