  1. Born in Bowmansville at that time it was a beautiful small town. Now it's a suburb of Toronto. We loved to go down King street and buy comic books, cadbury chocolates and ice cream. We loved the place. My grandmother lived next to the Shea's, a prominent area farmer. We'd catch lampreys they were a big problem back then and throw up on shore to die, nasty darn things. Currently I live in the US. My dad would take us to Rice, Scugog and other Kawartha lakes. Didn't have to go as far back then. Does any else remeber the "furry trout mounted" at the bait shop in Bobcaygeon. My annual trip to Canada is the highlight of the year. Got to drive a bit further for the fishing now, but the scenery is gorgeous all the way after North Bay. I've been out west , Florida, France, Germany, Mexico: Canada blows them all away. As for the media lots of Bull, I just wish they'd just stop lying. This is me at 11, in 1970 with my 1st big pickerel, I believe it was caught on Pigeon Lake.
  2. Hi Glen if you do find someone let me know (assuming you have a boat). I could give you an idea what to expect, where to go,etc. The fishing can be very good, but it's very rugged territory
  3. Next year I'm going back to the Nipigon area for 2 weeks. Looking forward to finally getting a few brook trout. The lakes so big that the launches I use will be nearly 3 hours apart. If too windy we but into Paint Lake and fish the Sturgeon River. Great area, great adventure and great fishing. But got to be very prepared driving on those rugged logging roads towing a boat. So lets hear about your fishing plans and expectations for 26.
  4. Just but into Luund into storage last week. No fishing until April-May 26, since I'm basically to old to ice fish anymore.
  5. Very nice fish, to me looks to be a tiger.
  6. Thats terrible it's bad enough some get caught nets. Spearing walleye Sounds like it could be close to the spawning for the walleyes. This makes it 2ce as bad.
  7. Agreed it looks to be a pure breed musky. The tigers have often lots of spots often, they are beautiful fish. Shown a couple of nice tigers. BTW they fight like devils. I've thought they outfight fight the pike or musky pound for pound.
  8. That's a dandy LMBBass!! This old fatty was just over 6 pounds. Often on the older ones the fins start to wear from fanning so many eggs
  9. We fish Erie western end starting just west of the fish market. Basically 3 way rigs "with worm harness" weight varies from 2 to 6 oz, with fish anywhere from 25' to 50' FOW. It's basically very few walleyes go back and that's the way all the boats are fishing for meat. We've gotten the occasional laker, musky or channel-catfish. Not often but when they do bite they are usually big. I bet that catfish near worn your arm off. They are excellent fighters. The one below was > 15 pounds, near wore my arms off.
  10. Sorry for all your troubles. My main USA fishing spot is Conesus (pike and bass "and big ones"). Used to fish Keuka in spring, great laker lake by June it's pretty much all downriggers. Also some big brown's and rainbows. Picture is a 14 pound brown from Keuka, the fish was only 25", a football

    Boat rage

Wow real winner, one of the main reason I don't often fish on weekends
  12. Thank you to the group for this info. Never new they made the larger sizes for bigger swimbaits.
  13. We do good on Erie. We troll with 3 ways, with weights ranging from 2 to 6 oz's. This is due to the depth the fish are at which ranging from 20 to 60 feet of water. pretty easy fishing just trolling at say 1.5 mph. Erie''s the only lake I know that still produces in the heat of summer. Once you start seeing fish or just look for an area where a lot of other are obviously trolling. Mostly eater size 15" to 20", but an occasional a 6-10 pound walleye is caught but that's more of an exception. Also with Erie you never know what caan bite last year we got a big musky and a 20 pound channel catfish. Also an occasion Laker is caught as well. Tons of sheepsheads, silverbassand perch. Goodluck if you want PM me,good luck
  14. Fishing Nipigon last year.Same thing the fishfinder said ~ 9'. Bang hit a rock at full throttle. Never showed up on the Humminbird screen. It must have been a ledge coming up out of no-where.I learned to always bring a extra prop and cotter pin. Saved the day and the trip. It also took off 1/2 the skeg. Surprisingly the missing skeg didn't effect the motors operation. That heavens it didn't ruin the drive.
  15. Howling' Wolf "Smokestack Lightning", originally recorded with Chess Studios records in January 1956. Nobody had a voice like Howling Wolf, a king of the blues.
  16. went to Beteau for a week. The water was down by ~ 1 meter. This made the fishing a bit difficult since there was lot of very shallow water. Beautiful country caught a few big pike and lots of walleye fish fry's.
  17. Hi just go in some of the hooks you gentlemen suggested. They allows me ~ 1/2 closer to the paddle tail of the Z-man bait. The fishing for walleye and pike (other than Lake Erie) will be very slow until end August-September. So it's be a bit before I can try it. I Like the little spinner as well. I use a lot of bladed jigs like the Road Runner and the Whistler jig.
  18. Actually that is Z-mans largest Chinlock hook and I do believe it's EWG. As you know you have to use the special Chinlock hooks. The baits ~ 7"long. Those are kind of the initial things that occurred to me. Unless they have started making larger Chinlock hooks these were all bought last year. I love the Z-man curly tails, as good as action as Mr. Twister and I can catch > 10 fish on one bait. I just but them on spoons, spinners and jigs. They all catch more fish w a Z-Man curly tail. Good thoughts and nice bass.
  19. hy I've used these Z-man plastics makes some that are specific for toothy critters they don't break, puncture or tear. My troubles is I bury the hook for weedless into the body of the swimbait leaving ~3.5" paddle of the tail behind it. I 'm lucky if one in 4 actually gets hooked. Talked to Z-Mann no solution with them. It's a shame because the pike and bass really like these things. I about gave up on them. Open to suggestions. Thank you
  20. Goggled this sounds more confusing? Is ethanol free gas still available in Ontario? Ethanol free gasoline was banned in Canada as of December 15, 2022. The only exceptions are for aviation, research, export, or in vehicles exclusively used in racing. Anyone who says their gas station or marina has ethanol free fuel of any kind is not up-to-date on the current situation
  21. I was told it's no longer legal to seal ethanol free gas in Ontario unless your gassing up at a marina.. Been that way for few, when did they lift the restrictions. I been hauling 65gallon Jerry cans (no plastic with gas for me). Thats changed and is Ethanol free common in Ontario now. Even here in NYS only1 in 3 sell it. some also sell ethanol free with regular gas octane. Checked with Honda premium isn't needed but ethanol free is highly recommended.
  22. While they are all in Kiawatha's, Rice Lake so it would seem that the harbor wouldn't surprise me. Got to love those muskies
  23. I think Trumps does presently tax Canadian imports by 25%%, except oil which is taxed at 10%. So from what I understand you are right. Lot of folks used to crossover to Niagara Falls to shop. That's pretty much over for now.
  24. I watched the lunar calendars for some time. If I was honest weather and time of season makes a lot more difference. Got skunked on new moons and full moons. And to be honest how many of us haven't tried to figure out some scheme to improve our odds when fishing. The theories are endless..... I'd say in all likelihood you went not over a feeding pod of fish.
  25. In NWO at Clarks they had banner ice fishing season for walleyes and some good trout as well. Still plenty of ice for the time being. I's tend to say no. With this having the best ice in 10years it really got things rolling derbies, etc. back in full swing.
