  1. Cute video...love the dogs face when you held up the fish! Brings back memories to when I was his age fishing with my old man (at a stocked pond,,,but better than nothing)
  2. Drifter said it, its a chrysler! I only buy foreign cars...i know i know not good for supporting the economy, but honestly, I drive a Toyota/Honda and for work I drive Ford/Chrysler/Dodge/Chevy...I notice such a difference, foreign cars are designed more to function easily for the driver, they put more thought and quality in the layout of the dash, buttons etc.... I dont mind paying extra for the brand
  3. I dont understand ...why did this guy have a dash cam rolling anyways? It wasnt a police cruiser....
  4. I rented from Daves on VB and we were two in a hut....with two large troughs..not holes..it was perfect for perch fishing we had two troughs each man had one line down opposite of eachother ( you could very very well have dropped 3-4 lines down per man per trough well spaced! I wouldnt drop more than three lines when perch fishing
  5. IFH I will contact them this week. Hopefully they can hook me up.. Pun intended Thanks steel.. Please do and likewise with me!
  6. Anybody know where one can rent an ice hut to themselves on simcoe? My buddies keep flopping..and would be nice to just go alone..but prefer to be in a warm hut. However, most operators have a min person charge! Sucks but I understand why
  7. Damn, not in durham..but i also do live in High Park !
  8. I never understood why people make such big and serious decisions without seeking further professional help ( not just going by what the person selling the service/product says ) but i guess that is where the quote is inserted " there's a sucker born everyday" As for having a solar grid tied system AND powering your house with electricity you produced by your panels - well lets just say you cant and can do that. It is possible and the technology is there, but due to strict government energy policies and local distribution utility companies it just isnt possible for the everyday homeowner ( hydro companies have to make money somehow ) to have that as an option. * this confirmed as of now by my prof. May have missed the 'not available for homeowners so utility companies keep making money' part in my lecture LOL * Goodluck!
  9. I will for the most part fish in huts..I want to try braid on my UL st croix but I will have the odd time where I might be fishing in the open and not in a hut or shelter.
  10. Old Ironmaker...I see what you mean, but people wouldnt invest unless there was realistic payback period and $$ savings down the road (mind you, it really all does boil down to the direction in which your roof faces). I will admit, you install a pv system and for the 1st - 3rd year ish depending on your energy consumption you may not make as much $$ as you want. But modern day technology can calculate very accurately the solar isolation of any given day in your specific location. Mind you, without the proper knowledge and data required to make accurate calculations one may very much under calculate their potential savings/earning/sunlight Big Cliff... no i wish im in Toronto, havent had time to set up my bio on here yet. Although, I am purchasing a boat this spring so I may just need those good ol' fishing spots PM me if you have any other questions.
  11. Big Cliff, am finishing up my last semester for renewable technologies...a 3 year program is MORE than enough time to learn the concept of solar energy supply for a residential home. My advice based on my experience; Be careful with the company you choose to 'finance' your array. Dont be shy to call around and get consultations. There are many companies out there with loop holes to screw you over - trust me - that being said, there are also very good ones Your roof will be fine, depending on the age of your home and its structural quality at the present time. The structural roof of any home is always engineered and built to handle large loads ( weight - from snow which is VERY heavy, rain, etc etc ) ...I have not heard of a residential home to this day who has had to have their roof restructured for a PV array ..but it can be so...usually the cost to get your roof structure assessed for the extra weight is included in the cost Do your new roof FIRST then get a solar pv company to install a system Choose a GRID-TIED system..meaning you sell your excess energy to the grid..this will increase your payback period. A good payback period for a residential pv system can be anywhere from 8-15 years. A pv system will also last you 25+ years if well maintained. Upon that, it is very important that when or if you make the decision to install solar, you review your energy consumption in your home and look at ways to reduce vampire loads and lower overall consumption ( efficient lighting / appliances etc ) This will help down the road with your panels A PV system on your garage roof to supplement your home roof structure is fine; but keep in mind SOUTH I have talked to people who run solar pv companies, profs, engineers and even driven by homes with a system not facing south. All of them have talked about how the installation of a system on their projects that did not successfully achieve a south facing array did very poorly and cost the homeowner thousands in loss. Ask your self, Will the panels on my roof face south? Most homeowners choose grid tied ( benefit from the MicroFit program in ontario - that being you system is 10kW or less, unless you live in a mansion that is all you need ) when the grid goes down, there is a device with your system that stops the electricity your panels are producing from entering the grid ( this is mandatory and is meant so that hydro workers working on repairing lines are NOT electrocuted by your feeding into the grid ) That being said, grid tied or not, you will have battery storage ( more $$ but worth it ) your pv company will come up with a number of days based on your consumption history of hydro, usually 2-4 days, this will help to 'size' the battery bank for your home. So if the grid goes down, you have power from your battery bank for that period only. Its an investment, with a payback period, and an opportunity to make profit off it ( i believe the Microfit rate is now 0.55 cents/kWh ish down from 0.88 cents / kWh two years ago --- as the cost of panels decreases so does the incentive, the government isnt stupid unfortunately ) But do your research...you can learn everything i did online and via books.
  12. Thanks for the advice everyone, I already have my dave genz rod filled with 4lb FC and the other UL st croix will be spooled with some mono, ill pick some up at BP today. I guess this gives me an excuse to buy a third rod and put some braid on it..then i can really know which one i like most!
  13. Thanks, i thought it may boil down to personal preference. Good to hear
  14. Hey guys, Im hoping I can get some help with the best line to use. I will be ice fishing with a few buddies this weekend and we cant seem to get a legit annswer on the best line to use. based on my research, I would think a rod fitted with just 100% fluorocarbon line would be best. (4lb test line) Were fishing in lake simcoe for perch. Based on my research, fluro line is less visible in the water, more sensitive and has less memory. It also doesnt require a leader; if i went with braid or mono, i would need a fluorocarbon leader..correct? Braid tends to coil more in reels, has less sensitivity and doesnt last as long. Correct? Any info would help, were not targeting lakers or pike or anything, our hut will be places in a spot were perch fishing is more abundant than lakers or pike, so i figured just fluro line is best... thanks!
