  1. Father/Daughter bonds are very strong. My daughter is only 3 and she knows the bond that we have together. Thank you for the poem. For all of the fathers with a daughter check out the song from Tim McGraw - My Little Girl
  2. Thank you all for the advice. It will come in hand because my son wants to go night fishing again, soon.
  3. Hey there, I was hoping to beat ccmtcanada with our fishing report and pics but man he's fast After going to FUN DAY for my kids soccer league this morning we all headed up to Lake Scugog to do some fishing and to meet up with ccmtcanada. We PMed each other the last few days and came up with a time for both of our families to meet and fish since they were already going to be up there. They met up with us just as we were getting setup. We all introduced ourselves and then we got to some fishing. Ccmtcanada's daughter was the first to stike with a nice size panfish. Then my son followed not to long after with a rock bass. The kids did great catching fish. My son finished the day with 5 fish and my wife(with our daughters Disney Princess rod) caught 9 fish. They were all panfish and rock bass but atleast they didn't get skunked, like I did. I barely even got my rod wet. But it was fun to watch all of the kids catch some fish and my wife finally catching her first fish. We had a great time fishing with ccmtcanada and his family and we would love to do it again and hopefully we can all catch some fish. Maybe Bly and I should go out tonight to get our own fishing in. Here's some pics, for some reason it's always hard to see the fish that my son has but they are there. Here's my son with his first perch. Hard to see it. Here he is with a rock bass, I believe. Here's my wife and kids, that's my daughters rod in my wifes hands. Her's was still on the ground. Here's he is again, look for his fish in the boat. Well that's my fishing report. You would think that doing 3 days in a row (4 hours each day) of fishing that the kids would be all fished out but they want to go again, tomorrow. I told them probably on Thursday. Bye all.
  4. Different, but it seems to work. Good thing she had a boat.
  5. I took my son out to finally see Transformers, the movie. After the movie was done, 9pm, I decieded to go to a spot that we've tried a few times, with no luck, for some night time fishing. We stopped off at Timmy's for some of his favourite donuts and then to the spot. Luck has it that no one was there and it was a calm night. After we ate the donuts my son asked if we could go fishing. I said yes but I wasn't sure as to what to use for bait. He was still set-up from the morning outing so I just put a plastic worm on his line with the bobber. I put a bright green spinner on mine and into the water they go. We could not beleive our eyes while fishing. The fish were jumping right out of the water like crazy. I have never seen that before, quite the site to see. He had a blast even though I knew that he probably wouldn't catch anything with his setup, but he didn't mine. I managed to catch 2 catfish 2-3lbs. Everytime a fish would jump my son would try to cast to that same spot. On my last through out I hooked something and it was BIG. I started to reel and then I realized that I was snagged. So I tried to un snag it and it did or so I thought. While reeling it in I saw that I had lost the spinner. My favourite (only) spinner but oh well. We then packed up and he was alittle upset that he didn't catch anything but he knew that we were heading to Scugog today so he didn't mind. I told him that I will go online to the OFC Community and ask them what we could use for night fishing. So here I am. I'm new at fishing so I don't know to much but I like to ask you guys and girls what should we be looking for for night time fishing? For my son (5yr) and myself. Thank you in advance, Ryan & Brady.
  6. After being out fishing with the kids at our favourite fishing pond we stopped off at Walmart on the way home. We picked up a few things for the tackle box and I deceided to finally buy a rod for my wife and my 3yr old daughter. She would only once in a while fish with us, hard to get a 3yr old to sit still and watch the bobber. But she has been using my son's 5ft rod a lot lately and doing quite nicely with it. So I let her pick out a rod, a Disney's Princess, which she is, a princess. She carried that rod through our entire shopping and to the car. I picked up a rod and reel combo that was on clearence for my wife. She doesn't fish much, a few times a month with us. She wont take the kids out fishing on her own. She doesn't like hooking anything, especially a live worm. Then once she got home from work and after dinner we went to Gannon Sports and I bought her a fishing license. We then went to Lynn Shores to test out the new rods. It was hard for my wife and daughter to cast out due to the high winds we were having tonight. We called it quits just shy of an hour. We are going to Lake Scugog on Sunday so we hope to have better luck there. Any suggestions on where we could fish from, defiently not the causeway. Once we got to the car our son asked if mom got a license and we said yes. He had a grin from ear to ear. He then asked when she was going to take him and his sister out fishing, while I worked. She said, "Only when your father is with us, I don't do worms". Hopefully, she'll get comfortable enough to be able to hook a worm and take them out on her own. But no rush, more family time together. I'll post pics when she catches her first fish, bye all.
  7. Nice pics of the family and the fishing. I can't wait until my family gets out camping. Those look like some sweet bass.
  8. Hey there, Welcome fellow newbie. I have found this site very helpful and full of very welcoming and friendly people. Hope you enjoy it here. Also, lots of pics like they all say.
  9. What do you think 190-220 pounder? Can you buy a line that strong? Wonder what the kid thought that he had on his hook.
  10. Hey there; First off, thank you for the replies to my other topic and for the advice, don't worry I'll never give up trying to get the big one. Or at least something bigger than sunfish We went fishing this morning at our regular spot and we hooked up with a buddy and his son. Let me tell you, they didn't get away from me or anyone else today. We all caught a total of 20 fish. We got some rockbass, catfish and a ton of sunfish. I caught 2 catfish and 2 sunfish. I know that they weren't big fish but it put the confiedence back into me My son caught his best to date record: 6 sunfish, 2 crayfish and 2 brook trouts(tiny 4-6"). My daughter caught a brook trout also (tiny too, see pic). We caught the trout at a different place that we heard of. Anyways I just wanted to let you know about our family outing and to show you some pics of the fish. Only got pics of the kids, I'll get some of me next time. The picture of my daughters fish was her second, caught and reeled in by herself. I didn't have the camera for her fish one which was a sunfish. I was mad that I didn't have the camera but it goes with us every time now. Here's my son with his sunfish Here's another sunfish Another sunfish. He could catch them all day. My daughter's TINY Trout Well, thanks again for the replies and I always look forward to reading all of the posts that you all put on here. There are some very helpful stuff put on here. Keep up the good fishing everyone.
  11. Hey there all, I'm a new fisher due to introducing me kids to it this July. Anyways, I headed up to a lake near Cambellford with my buddy who is a major fisher. We were on the lake by 8:30am and he let me use one of his rods and a couple of baits. One of them (spinner) was his lucky one, but not for me. He actually taught me alot about what types of lures to use and how to use them for certain fish. Well, the fish were out there because there were a few where they same so close to the boat that we could have just netted them. We got alot of bites but nothing stayed on the hook. We deceided to troll behind the boat on our way into shore (11am). He has a little upset that we didn't catch anything, he didn't care that he didn't catch anything but he really wanted me to catch something. But I know that sometimes you get some sometimes you don't. Halfway towards shore I ended up hooking one. He killed the motor, reeled in his line and he grabbed the net. I fought it for about 2 minutes and then snap, out comes the spinner. Darn it, it got away. See I was upset that it got away but hey I atleast had one on plus I really enjoyed just getting out there. Very relaxing. I have told the kids that we would like to get a boat in a few years but man I could really go for one now. I HAD A BLAST OUT THERE We are planning an all day fishing trip in September and I can't wait. Sorry no pics/no fish
  12. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has heard if it is ok to fish at Lake Scugog yet? Because of the dead fish and tests that they had to do. Thank you.

  14. Hello, I am new to fishing and I just recently took my son (5 yrs) out the the FREE fishing weekend (July 6-8) and he loves it. We got new fishing rods ($10), will be getting better ones soon now that he likes it. We have the basics for fishing but we live in Oshawa, Ontario and I was wondering if anyone knows of some spots where we can go fishing with the likelyhood of catching some fish? We caught two on our first day but they were from the Oshawa creek so they really aren't the keepable kind. If anyone can help us out with some good spots to fish then we would appreicate it. I would like to keep the areas within an hour of Oshawa and we don't have a boat. Thank you.
