Took the kids out for a drive .... picked up the hot chocolate and found a quiet road to sit and observe the eclipse. Driving down the round, I spot a familiar silhouette in the moonlight.... quick turnaround and drive back to shine lights on the fencepost. A beautiful owl sitting patiently for his next meal with the eclipse as a backdrop....NO CAMERA (don't think it would have turned out anyway). kids thought that was cool!!!

Thanks for all your help.... I went anyway and kicked ass. Crappie city and a few pics (released of course!)

Anyone hear of any ice on Jacks Lake? Buddy said sleds were on Scugog last night!!! Sharpen the auger blades and get the survival suit ready...... no boats on Scugog Jan1 this year! Play it safe everyone!

Trip began after my son played in a doubeheader Sat. afternoon. Headed up to the cottage in Peterborough to get some supplies and stayed overnight before heading up to Haliburton early Sun. morning (on the road at 5:30). I gave Junior the chance to sleep in but he said he wanted to fish all day, not just the afternoon.... ya gotta love that!! Launched the boat at 8:00 after searching for the public access..... met up with my brother, uncle, 3 cousins and a couple of friends. No more than 200 yds from the landing the water is 40 + feet...... start letting out the wire line Junior! 177 feet of line later..... tap, tap fish ON!! Fish off We land our first fish half hour later.... losing 3. It takes a liitle bit to get used to these lakers on wire. My brother pulls up and says he has his limit and is heading back to the cabin for lunch. "we'll go have a nap and hit Raven tonight" Junior doesn't land a laker in the morning but with the heat is ready for lunch!! Deep fried lakers for lunch was awesome. Evening on Drag Lake produced 7 fish for our boat..... 5 for Junior to my 2!! Here he is with one we let go since it was in the slot.

I'm heading up to Haliburton for a shot at some lakers.... taking jr. with me. He caught his first on wire line last year and he's looking forward to spending some time with uncles and cousins. I like to use Williams Wobblers.... any other suggestions? I'll post a report on Monday, Brian

Is it too much weight on the transom? Should I lay motor in the boat? Getting tuned up for a trip to take down some lakers w. wire line!!! Brian

I've used wire line to catch lakers many times. Was wondering what it would be like to try going after walleye on smaller lakes (other than Quinte, Erie....). Suggestions, comments? Brian

I'm heading up to Lovesick this weekend. In the past have caught walleye, muskie, bass, perch, bluegill .... no crappie. I've heard they are in Buckhorn next door...... anybody ever catch crappie here? Thanks, Brian

Great job! I was thinking of heading out in the morning.... are you still getting them on roe? jigs? Thanks, Cheese

What should we do with a fish that we suspect has VHS? Releasing it does not seem like a good idea..... Thanks, BG

Sounds great!! I'll be picking up my bags today..... May even get the kids from school involved!! There is no shortage of trash around the trib by the school. Keep fishing! BG

Got out Monday with my nephew and fishing buddy. Started on one trib where they had some luck on Sunday but not even a sniff.... saw a couple of fish landed, mink and beautiful sunrise. Waters were gin clear! Not deterred we headed off to another trib and ol' reliable didn't disappoint. We managed to land three nice hens and this little fella! Until our next adventure, BG

What size would your fish have to be before you consider mounting it? a) Steelhead Largemouth c) Walleye? Do you know a good taxidermist east of TO, west of Belleville? Still looking for a big one, BG

After being introduced to steelheading on Dec. 15, I've become addicted! Every chance I get, I'm scouting tribs, reading articles, buying equipment and fishing..... The past week has been great: catching fish off piers and hooking into a few on the streams. Fishing has now become a 12 month event..... Enjoy the pics and enjoy your time outdoors! Until next time, Cheese

Enjoy.... some of my favourites. Junior with his first steelhead!

The Pine Ridge Fly Fishing Club was in to the school last night and the kids had a blast making 5 different flies. The members guided each student through the whole process .... materials and equipment were all supplied by the club. Fishing stories were shared and trips planned on soft water were dreamed about. The flies made looked great.... next comes the big test.... will a fish think so. Catching a fish feels great, it's even better when you catch it on something you made. Next week the kids will get casting lessons in the gym! Thanks to the club members who made it a memorable night for those who attended, Cheese

Heading to the capital for my daughters swim meet April 13-15. Any suggestions/ideas about whether I should take my Ultralight and try the canal system for crappie? Thanks, Cheese

Made it out on Friday to the mouth of a trib hoping to bottom bounce or float it as per CC! Should have brought my surf board instead.... I figures wind out of the NE, things would be good. Wrong!! After debating on where to go, we decided to head upstream on same trib. Am I ever glad we did! Landed a small male in about 15 mins and two nice hens (7 & 4 lbs.) shortly thereafter. Besides hauling myself out of bed to go fishing, I enjoy the sights and sounds of being in the outdoors when everyone else is still in bed. It's amazing the wildlife you can see within the city/town limits of the GTA. Deer, turkeys, mink, otter, owls have all been spotted in the last month. Most people think you have to be "up north"! Looking forward to my next outing, Cheese As soon as I figure out out to re-size my pics, I'll share a few!

Going on a road trip... need some good fishing songs to make a CD. What's your favourite?

Awesome report! I can't wait to get out .... is it worth trying the area right where a trib dumps into the lake? I was down there today and it's flowing pretty good. I'm assuming the fish are staging at the mouth.... I know roe is your bait of choice but if I don't have any, what would you suggest? Cheers!

Check this site for info.... http://www.amsmeteors.org/lunsford/ Sounds like we may see more if you're out. Keep your head up!

I caught that one as I was leaving the lake from an unproductive evening of fishing. It was a doubleheader of beauty as there was a Great horned owl in the tree on the side of the road we had stopped to take a gander at when I said, "hey looked at that" to the kids. We left St. John and continued up to HAliburton where we hooked into 3 lakers today..... I saw a similar meteorite last week..... anybody hear about this in the news?

Managed to get my schools Anglers Club up to Simcoe last Thursday before the big storm. Day started out with a brilliant green-red meteorite falling from the sky as we waited for kids in school parking lot at 5:30 am. Started up to Simcoe with 3 vehicles.... look in my review and no one is with me. Vehicle had to stop since one of the kids is sick. Great!! We journey on up 23 and get to the lake at 7:00..... out to the huts by 7:30. Sick kid catches the first fish , a nice 5 lb whitefish and then retreats to corner of hut. Marked fish all morning... landed another whitefish and a laker by noon. Call to shore and sick kid gets Gramps to take him home! Caught a beauty 10 lb laker and two more whities before venturing home. As soon as I figure out how to post pics I'll add them! Heading to Haliburton on Sunday...... anybody ever fish Boshkung? Know where to get minnows? Keep your eye on your tip-up!

Ever fish out from Trenton? My son is playing hockey in Trenton on the weekend and I thought I'd throw the gear in the car and head down early..... the arena is right at the lake. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers!
