  1. Hi All. Heading down to Florida next week and i,m renting a boat from holiday park in the everglades.Going for large mouth but not sure of the structure to look for or what works down there.Any help would be great will post pics when I get back. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for all your help everybody. Will check out Steve M . Off to do some late Muskie fishing tomorrow . anyone else going out.
  3. If i go for bass it will be on lake O . The only guides i've seen are Haughunters not sure of the rep or the quality of the guides.Been talking to the office and offered me brett Isackson???
  4. That would be great but I forgot to say I just have one day to fish.
  5. Hi All. Will be heading to Fort Lauderdale in late December and early Jan. I have a delemma on hand and was hoping you could make up my mind on what to fish for. I know a lot of you are Bass fisherman out there so this survey might sway towards bass. But I mostly fish for bass here in Ontario and love every chance I get to land that trophy bass ,but the biggest one i've caught is just over 6 lbs. I know in fort lauderdale the chance of catching a 10 lb is good and would be a once in a lifetime to land one of these monsters. But I have always wanted to hook into a monster Tarpon and will never have that chance in Ontario. So what would you suggest , Monster bass or Tarpon. If you have any knowledge of Fort Lauderdale it would be a great help in influencing my decision. I will be hiring a guide so if you know of any quality guides in the area with numbers or emails would be great so I can discuss with them personally. I look forward to your reply and thank you in advance for all you suggestions.
  6. Well went out to couch last week and found the fishing to be a little tough. Bigger lake that I remembered. and the waters were rough. Found it hard to stay on locations with the wind blowing so went searching for calmer waters . Didn't matter what side I was on because even the calmer side was still swerling the boat around. But managed to land a few nice ones plus one tagged fished from the MNR. Located most just on the inside of the pencil reeds going out to deeper water. and the biggest one on a pile of cribs that produced a couple. Tried deeper water for the smallies but didnt have much luck .Just a couple of small ones.
  7. Spent a couple of days camping on Cold lake off of Gold lake. Weather was unbearablly hot and fishing was hard . But managed to boat three 5 lbs. and a few smaller ones . Overall not a bad couple days of fishing.Want to go back when the weather is a more favrabitle time.Looks like this lake could pull out some monsters.
  8. Just picked up a new spinning reel fro BPS and noticed the gear ratio of 4.7-1 This is a slower reel than i usually use,and not sure what you you match it up with rod and bait. Any help?
  9. Hello all. Will be heading out of pickering today and was hoping some one might help in directing me into what to use. Will be fishinglake ontaio for salmon /trout and not sure where to go depth lure ect. Any info would be a great help since I'm just trying this for the first time this year. Havent had much success in previous years eather so any info. will help. Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks guys . wonderful info. All I have to do is catch them now.
  11. I need a lot of help in technics and equipment to use when fishing for bone fish. Will be heading to Exuma in late December and would like to try some fishing for bone fish. Never used a fly rod before so if I can get around without using one would be good 1.What type of equipment should I bring .can you use spinning reels or do you have to use a fly. 2.Type of bait to use ,flies, small cranks ect. 3.Fishing from a boat or kayak,or walking the flats. 4.Any particular spots I should be targeting. 5.Best time of day to fish. 6.Will be staying near Moriah harbour but I believe this is a marine sanctuary,if anyone knows this area can I fish this area or do you know where in this area you can fish.I hear out near the bridge that goes to little Exuma is good. 7.Can you eat bone fish. Any information would be greatly appreciate , thank you in advance a good fishing.
  12. Nice hawgs . My fishing buddy hooked me onto that lake a couple of years ago,and have been going at least a couple of times a year. The river that goes up to OLA is quite good in certain location ,but I find more big boys up in the backbays between Limerick and Mephisto.Pulled some really nice ones out this year . Pic. of my fishing buddies son on this huge bucketmouth on the backlakes. He was so happy he caught it.had to help him hold it up for the shot. If you are going back up there PM me and will give you some locations.
  13. I'm surprised to here that. I use a Okuma Nemesis with St. Croix Triumph for the last 3 years and is my favorite rod /reel combination. And have never had any problems with it. Sorry to hear the service /warr. sucks on it but would defiantly buy another, and hope nothing goes wrong with it.
  14. Well just got back from Wadsworth lake and to my surprise was a excellent bass lake. After posting last week for any info. on this lake and was discourage with what was reported on the fishing on the lake . Average fishing not much size,Try another lake, was going to drink a lot of beer. Well all I know is this lake was awesome. It felt like a fly-in a couple of years ago .That it did not matter what you tossed in, they where just bitting. Arrived mid afternoon Sat. and launched the boat.told the wife I will be back in a couple of hours . Had to try the lake out ,came back 2 hrs later and only had a couple of foot longs to show for it. Looked like the reports where dead on. Sat back and drank beer the rest of the night contemplating stragies for the next few day. Got up early morning and trolled out to a flat in the middle of the lake with good weed line .first cast. hooked into this injured fish.looks like a prop. might of skinned him nice size though 2.5 lbs. Next cast in another one 2 lb smallie. went on a six cast six fish streak in one spot. Average size fish was in the 1.5 lb to 2 lb size. On the first day I'm guessing over 50 fish no lies.Granted most where foot longs but catching 4 to 5 in a row on numerous locations was a blast. Started trolling back around 8pm and hooked two nice ones just out side of the cottage . Headed out the next morning and typical the same results just finding more locations that are holding the bass. Dumb dog thinks there fishicles.has to lick the fish for some reason. Day three we decided to portage the aluminum up to the north end lake ,a little ,no cottage lake with tons of bass ,again didn't matter ever second cast there was a fish on.was starting to get really boring. On the way back the daughter hooked a nice one . Then came back a chilled on the dock. Well seems like I ran out of upload space so I will add another reply to post picks. Well after getting bored of catching fish on that lake we decided to try beaver creek just up the road from us that feeds into steenburg lake and limerick.Great fishing there two and nice scenery with a couple of portages over some falls . All in all this is a great bass fishing lake most fish were caught in 10-14 fow. average depth 18 fow deepest spot I could find was 25 fow. Best record on the lake 12 cast 12 fish .was lots of fun. Nice sharp drop offs by the shore line with many different structures about 20 flats with heavy weed lines. Small lake don't need a big boat can fish the lake in one day but may take longer finding the locations . A canoe would be ideal to portage the north lake ,limited camping location. Weird things that happened when we where there. 1. cruising the lake we came across a seagull in the water when we got close the bird it just barely moved away from the boat ,but it dint seem to be scared when we got close so we just keep on going .Came back the next morning and the bird was in the same location,so knowing this bird was stuck ,strapped on the gloves and pulled up beside it. it had a crank bait hooked into both feet with the line snagged to the bottom.Cut the line and pulled the hooks out and set it free . 2.Driving down this dirt road and a hawk came flying out of the bush with a big game in its claws ,flew 10 feet in front of the truck window high and drops it prey right on the road. right in front of the truck. It was another hawk about the same size, that was just weird. a truck was coming the other way and we both stopped and talked about what we just saw. 3.After coming back from a canoe trip up beaver creek.the daughter says she sees a snake. thinking nothing of it I start loading the canoe into the truck. She brings back two snakes one in each hand 1 Gardner snake around 3 ft long and 1 water snake 4 ft long.don't know if the bite but get them away from me.Crazy kid.
  15. Thanks for the replies guys. Well we will be spending the week there, I'm a little discouraged now. Was hopping it would be a good lake for fishing. Oh well I will just have to bring more beer. If the fishings not that great will have to load up the boat and try another lake close by. Will post pics when I get back , once again thank you for the info.
  16. Hello All. Will be heading up to Wadsworth lake this week and was woundering if anyone else has fished this lake. I'm trying to find out the fish spieces of this lake and all I know is it holds bass. Does anyone have any more info. Would be appricated. Being such a small lake don't expect a lot ,but anything would do. Thanks in advance.
  17. Yes mephisto lake has many camp sites but only boat access, lake is mostly crown land, and has some monster bass.you can access this lake through limerick lake or follow gunter lake road to the end ,but you will require a truck.
  18. Was thinking that this would be a great site to post something like this if it has not already be done or tried. But first of all we would need approval from the site itself if this is allowed. I was thinking of having a bragging rights to the largest bass caught for the week, and posting the pic and name of the person catching the biggest fish.weekly The rules would be a pic. with the date visible on the pic. The size of the fish with the pic. either by measurement girth and length or a scale. The fish must be released and in good condition. And the winner would have bragging rights for the week.We could keep a running thread so everyone can see the weekly winner.Plus the biggest fish of the year. I would like to post a separate post where only the winner for the weeks get posted and no new replies can be added, not sure if this is possible but I'm sure you will let me know. This would be open to anyone that would like to post there pics . We could even make multiple contest for ever fish category. But lets start with one a see how it goes. Again only on the approval of this board.Hope this can be done . Thinking this would be a lot of fun for every one. P.S. would need a lot of help on how to do this so any suggestions would be great.

  20. Thanks Guys. Was not going to rant but could not hold it in and maybe someone from the tourney might read this and say something. But please guys if you are in a tourney have respect for other people on the lake, and to those who do congrats,I know you spent a lot of $ on the tourney but would you pull these tactics off to another member of the tourney. I beleive there is a distance rule from boat to boat ,so why not the little guy out there just relaxing and having fun. #1 headed out to a 400 foot streach of bulls and started fishing,no one else around within minutes this bonehead, pulls up beside me 30 feet and takes the line away, well pulling out 2 right infront of him was priceless. #2 Left that area and went a little further east and was working the weed patchs big area with about 30 diffrent patchs scattered out around the area , drift the boat up to one to anchour me there ,couple of other boats ,far away fishing the shore line. finally a quite area. Nope up comes the screaming bass boat takes a look stops and drops the trolling motor, and pulls right up to the same patch i was fishing . approx, 30 feet in diam, Hey buddy the lake not big enough.you have about 30 other patchs you could fish.why this one I ask , no reponse just keeps fishing the same patch.Just shake my head and moved on. #3 Went up the narrow channel just east of there and noticed the tourney guys fishing the south shore so I decided to hit the north shore . great no one on this side so just let the wind blow me east along the shore , 5 minutes in another bass boat screaming towards me from the east and to no ones surprise stops just befor me and pulls in front of me casting distance away and starts fishing right in front .well no where to go but drift right into him. Pull out the big musky killer and start throwing to his boat , after a brief heated discussion we both left. # 4 Had enough for the day and started heading back through the narrow channel, and just a I passed the S turn I see this bass boat screaming throught the channel behind me sliding it through the turns , so I get as far right as possible so he could pass , thinking he would slow down , Nope , full throttle 10 feet beside the boat full roster tail . Had to almost beach the boat to not get hit by the buckets of water from the tail.Idiot. All diffrent boat .what has happened to the torneys these days ,no respect for anything on the water,I know a few guys that fish these tourneys and would never do this type of tatics but they are a older and wiser . Wish I knew what tourney was on that weekend because I would sure like to give my 2 cents worth. Ok got that out feel better know next week will be looking at lakes without a tournment on it.
  21. Well got out this weekend to the bog. and hooked into some bass. mostly out near the river heading up to Sturgeon. A bass tourney was on so the fishing was a bit tough. but still managed to hook some nice ones. Wind was blowing again and hard to stay on location , but just but the boat side ways and let it anchor its self on little clumps of Lily's and greenage. PB so far this year weight 2.82 kilos. witch I believe translates to 6.21 lbs. Felt good because I was fishing a weedline and one of the tourney boats pulled up in front of me and started to fish the front of my line ,came within 50 30 yards and cut of my route . Stayed on course and just fished behind him and hooked into this beauty. Could tell they were ticked when they missed that one , because they left just after that. So hears some pics from this weekend.
  22. Not sure if this helps but what the heck. Cant tell by the pics. The white crappie, Pomoxis annularis Rafinesque, 1818, is native throughout the eastern half of Canada and the United States, and has been widely introduced in the west as well. The dorsal fin of the white crappie has six spines. The maximum recorded length for a white crappie is 53.0 cm (21 in), with a maximum weight of almost 2.35 kg (more than 5.18 lb); it can live as long as ten years.[3] These species prefers slower-moving water, often turbid, whether a backwater of a small creek or a large lake. When spawning, the white crappie deposits its eggs on plant surfaces[3] or in poorly-defined nests in shallow water.[6] This very prolific fish may overpopulate small bodies of water under 40 ha (100 acres) in area.[10] [edit] Black crappie The black crappie, Pomoxis nigromaculatus (Lesueur, 1829), is very similar to P. annularis in size, shape, and habits, except that it is darker, with a pattern of black spots. It is most accurately identified by the seven or eight spines on its dorsal fin. The oldest recorded age of a specimen is fifteen years, although seven years is a more typical life span for the species.[4] [5] The black crappie's range is uncertain, since it has been so widely transplanted, but it is presumed to be similar to the white crappie's; as of 2005, populations existed in all of the lower 48 states.[4] [11] The black crappie tends to prefer clearer water than the white crappie does. Its diet, as an adult, also tends to be less dominated by other fishes than that of the white crappie.[4] [11] The breeding season varies by location, due to the species’ great range; breeding temperature is 14‒20 °C (58‒68 °F) and spawning occurs between April and June.[5] Spawning occurs in a nest built by the male, who guards the eggs and young.[4] [7] [5]
  23. Sounds like a good day on the water J.B. Those hot summer days really take a number on the fishing. Thanks for the report.
