  3. well it works...just not quite stock!!!!

I got the new switch and installed it with unfortunaetly no results...BOOOOO!!!! So I guess that left a problem with the cam...which I assume involves ripping apart the tranfer case which I am not interested in doing...but....being a bit of a red-neck jerry-rig type of guy I decided to bypass the switch and install a toggle switch on my dash...after an hour or so of running wire and tapping a hole in the floor I ended up with a working 4 wheel drive system... :thumbsup_anim::thumbsup_anim::thumbsup_anim:

    YEEE HAW!!!!!!!

Thank-you once again Bernie for your help with this...without it I would definaetly have got stuck out on the lake....it really goes to show that there are folks on this forum that really will go out of your way to help out another member. I appreciate it.

Rainy Lake here I come!!!!! I'll have pics by the weekend!!!

  4. Right on....the switch is ordered and (because I live in the middle of nowhere) it will be here in 2 days....I'll let ya know how it works out...and by the way if you are ever in Fort Frances let me know....I'll take ya out on Rainy for some 30+ inch walleye, feed ya dinner, and probably wash and wax your vehicle for ya :whistling:

    Thanks again for clarifying this

  5. yes I agree Bernie you are the man!!!!!!!

So after removing the switch the continuity test proved positive though it was a weak signal...I was using the audio feature as I was having a hard time seeing the meter...either way when I depressed the switch I got a positive 'beeeep'......the switch was threaded all the way in and I tried to engage 4 high again with no results.

  6. I agree Bernie this is difficult on line but I appreciate your help....

anyway continuity test to the negitive terminal is good. There is power to the transfer switch so jumped the connection and then I got power to the actuator.....does this mean that the switch is not acting properly???? Should I get a new switch??? ...and just a thought is it possible to just bypass the switch in order to get into 4x4 (for future reference if needed in an emergency).....

Like I said I appreciate the help, got further in the past 4 hours than the past week of tinkering around....

  7. ok...so got the light tester hooked up with a couple of cotter pins and definaetly no power to the actuator....did a quick check again of the harness (about the 15th time) and still see no faults....used the multi meter and did a test as well with no results.

Did the amp test Tybo is talking about and nothing changed...though not exactly sure what was supposed to happen...when it comes to electrical I am a little green

  8. Bernie....

ok...so could not get the light tester to the terminals as they are recessed in the 2 prong plug...but I did a continuity test with an ohm meter and do not seem to have power going into the actuator.... (I did this with the key turned on and in 4 high so power should have been getting to the connection) ....tested at the far end of the harness going into the transfer switch and have power there????? So does this mean there is a fault in the harness somewhere or should I be looking for a ground off somewhere????

    Getting closer...I think :whistling:

By the way Travis the driveshaft is spinning and I really hope this does not involve taking the front diff apart...I have been avoiding dismantling untill all other avenues are covered.

  9. Bernie...I have got that far...except all I did was park on a slight incline, shift into 4 high and get the back tires spinning on ice (we have lots of that here!!!)..pop the clutch and let it spin at idle...got out of the truck and had a look...the front drive shaft was spinning fine...and you can hear the difference between 4 high and low when it is engaged (not sure if that is important)

your next idea about power to the actuator is where I am stuck...checked the entire wiring harness from the actuator to the transfer case and could not find any frays, breaks, ect. This is why I changed the switch on the transfer case just in case that was it....unfortunaetly it was not.

  10. Bernie...by no juice I just mean the front axle is not turning..it is a 1500 series half ton 5 speed manual...the front actuator is new and I hooked it up to a battery and it works...

Slowpoke...it is the thermal/electronic assisted (I believe) system...The shifter is on the floor, not push button.

Hope this clarifys things guys...thanks for your help, keep it coming :thumbsup_anim:

  11. hey all wondering if anyone out there has a solution for me. I've got a 95' Chev 4x4 (4.3 V6) and for the life of me can not get my 4 wheel to engage. I'm not much of a mechanic but do know a little....so... I can tell you its not the actuator (new) or the fuse and I just got back from the wreckers with a new-to-me transfercase switch (working) and installed it and still no juice. The transfercase engages and the front driveshaft is fine. I really do not want to take this thing to anyone but am just about out of options... :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

    Any ideas?????

    Thanks

  12. Hey i have also been looking into getting a Vex but got to researching these 'new' systems called 'Showdown'. Anyone used them or heard about them....they are quite a bit cheaper ($250) and seem somewhat easier to get use to??? They are made by Naturevision (same company that makes Aqua-veiw). Any info or thoughts guys and gals???????

    Thanks

  13. I always leave the skin for that very "unlikely" reason...its seems silly to most of us to have to clean the fish, put them away, and then 'skin' them later when we are ready to eat them , even it is only between the morning and evening fish. When your cooler has fish in it according to the boys in green it HAS to be identifiable...it sucks you got the fine but I bet its a lesson you won't forget (I have also learned the expensive way FYI)
