  1. Hey Everyone, I returned from a trip to New Brunswick last week, and I figured that I would share some pics with you. We were on a commercial fishing island just south of the mainland, called Grand Manan. The people and the scenery there were incredible. The picture of the wooden cage in the water is actually a herring weir. It is a figure 8 design that the fish don't know how to escape from. If you like Brunswick Sardines, these are the cages that trap the fish! The picture of me in the kayak shows some black ABS cages behind me. These are used for farming Atlantic salmon. And finally the fishing pics, just some pollack that I caught off the local pier.....Yum!! Enjoy the pics.
  2. I have a 6, 7, and 8 weight fly rods, so my range of fishing options is pretty good. I have waders, but i don't have waders for my girlfriend, so we are limited to casting from the bank. I think that I will get out west to the humber. Maybe I will bring the spinning tackle as well (carp and sheepshead are always good alternative options.) At least that way I can check out grenadier pond again. Thanks for the ideas! If I catch anything I will post some pics when I return.
  3. Hey everyone, I hope that you are all enjoying your Sunday! I went to Grenadier Pond in High Park yesterday, but unfortunately it was WAY to windy to do any fly fishing. Does anyone here have any good ideas as to where I could fly fish around Toronto today? I don't care what species I catch, as long as I catch something. my best thought so far is to head to Centre Island. My girlfriend loves to fly fish, but she doesn't fish enough to really care what she catches. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, an maybe I will see you on the river/lake today. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the link! it appears that lake trout and whitefish are open. Can anybody provide any details as to how I might be able to catch them at this time of year? I usually only ice fish for these species. Any help is greatly appreciated....Thanks again.
  5. Hey everyone, I am just gearing up for the long weekend!! I am going up to Wadsworth lake, just south of Bancroft and I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some advice. I am unsure of what division the lake is in (MNR inaccurate maps) so could anyone tell me what is in season there? I believe there are whitefish and lakers in there, and they should be in season. We will be fishing out of kayaks. Any advice on how to catch these at this time of year? Thanks! I hope that everyone has a chance to get out this weekend.
  6. Hey everyone, I am heading out to rice lake this weekend and I was just wondering what is in season right now. Any panfish in season? I tried to pull the regs off of the MNR website, but it is running way too slow right now. Thanks for any help, it is appreciated.
  7. Can you see the Jack Russel hiding in the net? Not much of a fishing dog but she makes a good friend!
  8. Hey everyone, Does anyone know what time a bait store opens on Scugog in Port Perry tomorrow (Sunday) morning? I am planning to head up there at about 4 am, but my buddy needs a new license and we need some minnows. Any recent reports? Thanks for any help, Also look for two frozen guys in orange flotation suits if you are up there!
  9. Good to know you guys are in the neighbourhood. Next time I am going out, I will post a topic and let you know. It would be good to hook up and catch some fish. Cheers!
  10. Hey everyone, As I am relatively new to this board, I thought I would just see who is around in my neighbourhood. Maybe we will run into each other down at Ashbridges bay or the Toronto Islands. I try to get out as much as possible to these places, also the humber, Grenadier Pond, and Bluffers park. Always looking for new fishing buddies. Happy Fishing!
  11. Have fun! Right off the beach in Varedero I caught many fish, simply by casting out calamari off the bottom. I brought a seven foot spinning combo with ten pound test, some hooks and bell sinkers. The locals called these Kohanoa. They fought way beyond their size. I ended up giving many of these fish to the locals, and ended up with some rum in return. Have a great time.
  12. Right on bud, glad to hear it! There should be more people like you and I around, and this board is pretty indicative of that sentiment. Good for you. Happy fishing.
  13. Once again, thanks for the info. The weather forecasts are usually somewhat flawed, so I think I will take my chances (and raingear/gloves/hat). Urban, thanks for the pics and the explanation, those are what I meant by crankbaits, so we are on the same page. I will take some spinners too. Of course if anybody wants to join me, all are welcome. Thanks again, what a nice introduction to this board!
  14. Thanks for the info. I am going to try the islands on Monday or Tuesday. I normally use crankbaits for pike down there, do you have any other suggested baits? I usually don't have much luck with spinnerbaits or spinners. Also, i have no idea what twitch or jerk baits are. Are these the soft bodied plastics that people pitch under docks for bass? Thanks for your help
  15. I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. This board is great, a wealth of information! I am sure I have run into many of you around Toronto, as I do quite a bit of fishing. Does anyone know of any good places to fish in toronto right now? I fish at the Islands for pike and carp during the fall, but I have no idea what is around to fish for in January....Usually I am ice fishing at this time. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I guess that I should get my kayak out again??? Crazy weather.
