  1. Hey Rich, I've used something pretty similar on an old Sportspal with some success, From Canadian Tire, the Rubberized Rocker Guard. I sprayed 2 cans on all the exterior seams as I wasn't sure where it was leaking from. Did a good job, reduced the leaking considerably. Had I been able to concentrate the spray on the leaky spot itself or ambitious enough to do a coat on the inside as well I think it might have eliminated the leak entirely. Its about 8 or 9 bucks a big spray can (black or Sand). It dries kinda rubbery but non sticky. Resist the temptation to use the cheaper asphalt stuff as it stays sticky/messy for ages. I speak from experience about that stuff too.

Thank you. I have a pretty big leak in one of my Sportspals this year, and I'd like to patch it up a bit. I may pop all the ribs and coat the inside - the outside is already hideous enough! lol

  2. Nice report - uh, silly question - did you happen to go to WalMart in New Liskeard a couple days ago? Probably not, but... I saw someone there in the sporting department that kinda looked like you.. If it was you, you were wearing a Lake Nipissing North Bay tshirt.

Probably someone else... But it's plausible that you came through this way after your trip and stopped to restock spoons or something.. I don't know.

Had to ask after I saw the report!

  3. The only lure I use in Anima-Nip is an original floating Rapala. The only fish I've caught there are smallies, a few rock bass around one area, and one big (for me) walleye. I've not tried for lakers there, nor have I specifically tried for walleye - that one came as I was trolling back to the launch.

I take my Sportspal in there when I do go. Very rocky bottom, very clear water. Very deep at points (I believe I marked over 200 feet in some spots). There's a small island you can land on that has some natural blueberries if you like that kind of thing. Not tons or anything, but the wife and I had a handful or two when we stopped for lunch. It's beautiful there when the water is calm. When it's rough, it's way too rough for me.

Also, be very careful. The water levels might be higher this year, I don't know, but if they are like whenever I've gone, you can be out in the middle of the lake and still hit your trolling motor on bottom. Depth is all over the place. I mostly stay up around the north half of the lake, but I've gone past the first narrows a couple times (no luck there, but I've heard further down past the second narrows is good, though last year the guys I know who fish down there said they couldn't find the walleye, but got lots of bass and pike). Again, be careful. The depth changes so radically there with no warning, and that wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't sometimes only a foot or two deep in spots.

  4. Last spring I was asked by EA Sports to write a story about myself. You can read it here if you like (they just posted it there and linked it on their FB page): http://instablogg.com/OR3kV4T It was already out of date by the time they published it, but if I re-wrote it now the only things that would change really are the weight loss, which is now north of 100lbs.

I have no doubt that you'll lose weight doing this shake thing. Hoepfully the medical team also trains you on how to maintain it afterwards when you return to eating sustainable levels of food. Good luck...

  5. Not the one while we were laker fishing, was it?

I thought this was from our top secret walleye lake... I might be wrong however.

The lakes must be locked up pretty good in your neck of the woods by now? Lets make plans

Yep, the laker lake. You can tell by the tree line that it's the same lake, and in this pic you can just see the back of the little guy breaking the surface as well as my bottom-bouncer:

I think we only went to our walleye lake once with Joeytier all of this year, unless I'm not remembering right.

As for lakes around here, I dunno. A couple weeks ago I saw some crazy guys at a splake lake standing on the edge of the ice, near a current and open water... So I'm guessing by now it's probably fine for sane people.

I haven't gotten out yet, though.. I'm exhausted. But oh do I ever want a nice trout through the ice!

  6. If you're looking to get into recording electric guitar at home, I would toss that amp (or sell it to some poor chap) and skip the idea of recording mic'd amps entirely. Pick up something like a DigiTech RP-355 or similar. That's the one I use, and I'm very happy with the results in my songs.

I don't use a computer for recording, but I know guys that do and I'm sure they could do the same thing I do, which is this: record guitar clean to one track, have it route out an aux channel and into the DigiTech, the output of the DigiTech back into a second input and recorded to another track. This gives me the clean take and at any point if I need/want to redo my effects processing, I can do so without re-playing the parts, just playing the clean track out to aux, back in again.

  7. 95% of my fishing is by myself, much needed time to relax

And by gosh, it's fun to fish alone, or your name isn't funfishing!

I love fishing. I prefer to be with someone else, but I can't seem to find anyone around here that fishes as much as I do (or did..). But I still have lots of fun when I'm alone. And my wife does count because she steers the Sportspal where I want it, freeing me up to focus on casting and retrieving.
