  1. I was considering NDP for several reasons (repealing Bill C-51 being chief among them), but now I don't know. My riding sways between the Liberals and the Conartists, so I suppose no matter who I vote for, it will be a waste of a vote, and my time. However, the parties get funding according to the number of votes they receive (or so I was told), so it does matter who I vote for.

If I sit back and say, well, this party has no chance of forming government, so therefore I will vote for the status quo... Well, lots of people say that, and nothing will ever change.

I don't see a Libertarian candidate in my riding, at least not on their website.

  2. That weekend the dipshits were out in full force on the lake I was fishing, too. We were in canoes and instead of staying on one side of the lake, they just HAD to come between us and the shore... The lake barely produced, so I just won't be going back. But if I owned property there, I'd be pissed.

Even worse is when I'm fishing a river and they decide to rip right in front of me a bunch of times. I tied on my heaviest Kastmaster and tried hitting the bullseye. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to catch anything but pike that day. :\ But at least the kid's dad saw what was happening and laid into him when he got back to shore on the far side.

  3. I had a Fuji and HATED it. I sold it. Terrible pics, slow, underwater pics and footage has way too much colorshifting going on and looks overall bad.

I now have a Nikon Coolpix and I HATE that, too. Pics are hit or miss, but it's super slow between shots. Video is good, though. I don't really use it much anymore... Scared to get it wet, as I've read many complaints about Nikon honoring the warranty - should the waterproofing fail, they claim it's not supposed to be used in water. What the hell?

Not really the same idea, but I got an SJCAM SJ4000 and it's basically like a less expensive GoPro, compatible with the mount system. Pics are just OK, but the video is nice. Not sure exactly how rugged it is in the waterproof housing, but I trust it more than I would the Nikon.

IF I were to buy another point-n-shoot waterproof, I'd spend more and get the Canon. I suspect it will suffer some of the same issues as the other two, but I have loved my Canons over the years. Edit: I might look at the Olympus too. I considered it last time, but the Nikon was available locally.

  4. Seems pointless to suggest buying a new tip when the OP said he cut it off at the next eyelet...

I would also suggest staying far away from an Ugly Stik, unless you really don't care about feeling light or medium hits. I used to be a big Ugly Stik fan, but it was out of sheer ignorance. Sure, they're durable. But so is a steel pole. Even my cheapest Shimanos feel ten times better than any Ugly Stik I've used.

  5. This series was awesome! But they sure didn't show Sam too much until the last few episodes... I have to wonder why that is. I didn't picture him winning, but they really focused on some of the other guys by comparison. I was really impressed with Lucas and Alan made me laugh a few times. I hope they do a second season!

Other than Dick Proenneke's vids, Surviroman, and even Naked and Afraid, I don't have much else to watch in this vein. (I find Ray Mears super-knowledgeable, but his shows aren't very interesting to me, and Bear Grylls is a fraud and a joke).

I just caught a new show Les Stroud is doing that he has his teen son with him. It was on the Travel Channel that I never watch. Check it out.

Do you mean Survivorman and Son? I think there were only a couple episodes, and it isn't that new. Logan, just spent some months battling cancer at Sick Kid's in Toronto, and I don't think he'd be out filming again so soon (maybe I'm wrong). Then Les broke some ribs when, IIRC, a vehicle overturned more recently and was airlifted back to Toronto... I think his most-recent televised shows have been Survivorman Bigfoot.

  6. You can build a housing pretty easily for a GoPro or SJCAM style camera (and possibly others) with some ABS or PVC pieces and a weight of some kind. I am strongly considering doing it myself, just in case I get some cool footage.

Here's an example of how to build it:

Live feeds don't really work too well when the signal has to be sent through water, not to mention if your line and cam is far out, so I wouldn't really worry too much about that.

I have an SJ4000 Wifi (genuine, not the cheaper clones) that I got from Amazon for about $115, and I'm really quite happy with it, considering the alternatives. Compatible with GoPro mounts, too. I've only really used it at the beach and on my ATC so far, but it's been great. Hopefully I'll get some footage while fishing sometime to enhance a decent report, we'll see.

  7. I don't know about those super-expensive models, but I have a handheld Dakota 20 that I really like (loaded with just the Ontario portion of the free Ibycus 4.0 topo maps). Only problem with it is I scratched the touch screen in my first hike with it. :\ Still functions fine, but it bothers me.

A good alternative to Google Maps is Oruxmaps, at least for Android users. I'm not sure if it's on iPhone.

  8.

When it's a smartphone you can be fairly certain the date hasn't been manipulated. Like I said, can of worms. Not always illegal either, there's a reason I'm not mentioning any names :).

True. There are tons of year-round brookie lakes around here, and I do tend to hit them up after the others are shut down.

I do like the replacing of coordinates idea... Only problem is I'd want to see if anyone showed up. :Gonefishing:
