  1. What I find amusing/ironic are those who drive to work on roads built and maintained by taxes, live in communities that the police help to keep safe etc etc etc but whine like hell about paying any taxes (and claim to have made all their money purely thru their own effort)!!

Wrong! We complain about waste of tax money and those who hitch a free ride on our tax money. A government can't give anyone anything without first taking it from someone else. Many of us pay more than our fair share just to see it wasted. That's what pisses us off.

  2. Fantastic shots, got a few of the chipmunks up here hanging upside down by their back feet only, comical to watch, well done, would put a smile on anyones face

Thanks. I had a chipmunk hanging around too, but he's MIA. I suspect the weasel ;)

    Great shots!

Thanks. It's easy when they decide to cooperate.

  3. Another beauty, so clear, how long did u leave it open for, just curious

It was taken with my Canon T5 with a 250mm lens. Shutter speed was set at 1/100th : f stop setting f16 : film speed setting ISO 100. Had the camera on a tripod as well.

  4. I could never understand why some people are jealous of what others make for a living (the 1%).

Instead of being envious of them why not do whatever it takes to raise your own standard of living. It's all a matter of choices in life........some decided to not further their education after high school and smoke dope for a pastime while others looked further into the future and wanted a better life then their parents. I say GOOD FOR THEM.

    :clapping::good: X2

  5. Waxing a boat is nice too look at on the trailer if that's what you're into..........but within 2 or 3 times out it will no longer look like the extreme effort you put forth to get it to look like that trailer-ed boat. However, if you are selling that old boat for maximum $$$ by all means spit the shine the crappola out of it and good luck on the sale.

I've found that waxing it cuts down on water staining and mineral deposits, and cleans up with little effort in the fall.. My boat is 9 years old and still looks as new as the day I brought it home.

  6. I think the world of you and I love most of your posts but I think you need to take a closer look: Our "government" already dictates so many aspects of our lives and taxes and many more.

When you really look at it they already dictate so much of what we can or can't do! Seat belts, life jackets, safety kits in boats, motorcycle helmets, they tax the heck out of tobacco (but they also tax the heck out of stop smoking aids).

Such a contridiction, tax a woman's sanatiry supplies, tax food, it's almost to the point where they tax the water we drink and the air we breath, You need a licens to fish hunt, hunt certain species, own a gun, buy a property, sell a property get married, die.....

Our democracy is sounding more and more like a dictatorship every day!

Agreed Cliff. :good: One word solution "Libertarian"

  7. Scott Hennig - VP Communications: Was a speechwriter for the Conservative gov't in Alberta

Aaron Wudrick - Federal Director: Was campaign manager for KW Con MP Peter Braid

Kevin Lacey - Atlantic Canada Director: Served as an advisor for Premier of NS from 2003-2006 and then was employed to Stephen Harper's office from 2006-2008

Jordan Bateman - BC Canada Director: Gave a speech at a BC Conservative Party speech in 2012

Jeff Bowes - Research Director: Former Staffer for the Conservative Research Group

Todd Mackay - Prairie Director: Regular columnist for Postmedia, a right-leaning publication

Paige Macpherson - Alberta Director: Former Sun News reporter

Christine Van Geyn - Ontario Director: Author of several National Post articles, as well as served as a staffer for a Federal Cabinet Minister (couldn't find a name, but I'll guess it's Conservative)

The CTF has been a springboard for many Conservative politicians...Jason Kenney, Walter Robinson, Sara MacIntyre and many more.

I only brought up one example from the report when they didn't include the Champlain Bridge repairs as part of the CPC Uncosted Promises, but included it to the NDP & Libs Uncosted Promises, to highlight the fact: What else are they not including in their report? Again, in my opinion, this report is biased and clearly evident that it's backed by the CPC, so all I'm saying is, take it with a grain of salt.

So you don't trust the information provide freely by each party as to promises and costs because the information was recorded and compiled by the Canadian Tax Payers Federation and you don't like the fact that the CTF has too many Conservatives as members. Funny thing is, anyone can join, support and get involved with the group. I guess the reason the CTF is a little light on Liberal and NDP'ers as members, is that they are never interested in minimizing taxation and being held accountable for what they do with our taxes.

Oh, and argue about individual costs all you want, we're still comparing billions of $ to millions of $.

  8. The whole Canadian political system has been taking 2 steps to the left when the Liberals are in power and one step to the right when the Conservatives are in power, net result is the Conservative of today are yesterdays Liberals. At one time , free trade was a Liberal

dream and Conservatives were a protectionist policy with duties and tariffs, buy Canadian mentality. Mulroney came on the scene and embraced free trade , suddenly the Liberals renounced the concept , same with the European style VAT value added tax which is basically our GST , again Mulroney taking a liberalized Euro approach to taxation and Chretien promising to abolish it in the infamous Red Book. Don't forget Jean Charest , the reddest Tory of them all , leader of the PC Party in the mid 90's who could without hesitation step over to lead the Quebec Liberals.

Very accurate assessment of Canadian political landscape over the past 35 years :good:

  9. Looks like you had trouble understanding the question!

Looks like you didn't bother to read anything info I supplied. We rate in the top 3 for quality of life in the world.

So with a good standard of living, we do have the ability to be concerned about other issues at the same time.

  10. So we have:

    • millions unemployed
    • hundreds of thousands of children living in poverty
    • thousands homeless
    • 2 women insist on covering their face during swearing in ceremony but not during citizenship hearing.

Which of these issues would a responsible leader who had the interests of the country at heart treat as a high priority???

Yeah, Canada's a horrible place to live. We'd be much better off if we were more like Greece. :sarcasm: Which won't take long if Junior gets in.

  11. Dunno if it's fair to take the report at face value. The CTF non-profit group is comprised of Conservative supporters, so of course they would make the Conservatives the ideal party. If this report came from an unbiased point of view, I'd think of it differently.

In the report, the "Uncosted Promises" section for the NDP and Liberals include the Champlain Bridge, but is not listed for the CPC. As I understand, bridges are a Federal responsibility, so if the CPC are elected for the next term, that extra cost should also be included, but it's not.

If a simple person, like myself, can find that one item, I do pose a question to all the other items they have in that report.

First off. The Canadian Taxer Payers Federation would support any government that limits taxation and spends the taxes they do take in a "responsible manner".

The fact that they garner a large amount of support among conservatives is due to this fact. The numbers in this report are based on the individual promises made by each party and the costs attached to these are also provided by the parties. The CTF simply added them all up for us. Even if you want to dispute some of the individual costs, one can't deny that there's a big difference between 10 billion in new spending verse 256 million in fiscal 2016/17, not to mention the vast differences in the following 3 fiscal years after that.

  12.

It is not because electricity is a commodity and is "traded" constantly by the minute or hour? Since there is no place to "store" it, once it is produced it is basically a use it or lose it commodity as well. That is also why we sell excess to the States and other provinces for cheap, it is either that or get absolutely nothing for it. The only way to have a flat price would be to be able to produce exactly just enough at exact time it is needed. Pretty much an impossible task to guess that closely.

True, which is why with with gas fired and nuclear electricity generating methods, you can control the timing and amount that is produced. Manitoba Hydro, despite having a vast amount of hydro produced electricity still uses gas fired plants at Selkirk and Brandon for control over peak periods. With wind and solar, you can't. Makes it more inefficient for that reason alone.

  13. If you read his resume b4 he entered politics it reads like a twenty something kid, no real jobs, dropped out of a couple university courses, all image and name. As a single pension retired couple we don't pay squat anymore in taxes with income splitting and old age deductions, feel sorry for the "anybody but Harper" crowd . Ontario I thought learned its lesson with the protest vote Rae government and Albertans are wishing they could have a redo with their protest vote.

edit: in retrospect the Conservatives should have maybe convinced Ben Mulroney to run against him , a vote for Ben would make about sense as a vote for Justin, maybe more.

You have to give the Liberals some credit for mixing their game plan. They tried inept with Dion, intelligent with Iggy, and now opted for dumb with Trudeau ;)

  14. I hope you know that your alternatives are complete opposites.

I wish the vast majority of voters didn't treat it like a beauty or polarity contest. Liberals believe in high taxes and more government. Conservative are more capitalist and believe that vibrant self sufficient business creates prosperity for all.

I find it bizarre that Toronto tax payers go crazy if the city talks about a 1% property tax hike that will cost the average family $100. But they will vote in that Trudeau kid that will raise taxes by way more than that. You can't fix stupid I guess.

Harper is not a flashy guy. He's not that nice. But he is a tough focused leader. He is highly respected by international leaders. He has my vote.

Agreed. What you say here is basically a summation of this NP article.
