I'm curious, why do you think that is? My first thought would be the action of the jig but maybe they're spooked by the weight or extra jig. Have you considered getting the exact same jig but next size heavier like from 1/16 to 1/8?
I think it’s the weight spooks them and changes the action…especially when they’re being fussy already.

Thanks Simon . Been crazy busy with orders .
Cool man! I still have the ones you sent me in my arsenal, they are killer when the fish go dormant/neutral/finicky, I just wish they were heavier, as the crappie here are usually 18’ to 33’ feet deep and don’t respond the same if I add weights or double jigs.

Made it out from 2pm till 4pm, actually made it out by 1pm but had to take some time to check the ice as i'd not been to this lake so far this year. There was 13" in the access bay but that always freezes first so I walked all the way to where it opens out to the main body and there was around 8"....good to go! Bite didn't start till 3pm.
I missed a bunch and landed a few in a fun hour, they were definitely hitting the plastics with more enthusiasm than live minnows.
We have a storm rolling in here so I left before dark as it was already whiteout conditions and I did not want to navigate 10 miles of unstated lakes in the dark in a blizzard, glad I left when I did as it was 5 feet visibility all the way back.

Hi all - I am planning on targeting crappie for the first time through the ice on Bobs lake this year and am wondering if anyone has some suggestions on types of structure to target and a general area on the lake that would be worth while.
Don't need anyone's specific spots just looking for some general advice on how to approach the lake.
I love fishing crappies, unfortunately I don’t know that area…. Tight lines! Oh, maybe check out the member ‘Misfish’ and his panfish bugs…crappie love ‘em.

Hi all,
spent the morning checking ice and was satisfied it was safe to get the sled out. Just drove a short way around the corner of our bay to a deep crappie hole, was pretty constant bite, mostly small though.

Hi all,
Went down to the bridge this evening. I checked the ice there on thursday and there was 5", was pretty confident that with the cold temps we've been getting it would be safe to venture out today, I know lots of you fish on way less than 5" but there is current at this spot and my comfort zone is at least 6" at this spot.
I found 6" to 8" ( 2 inch difference less than 5 feet apart in some places) and drilled a grid to sit in the middle and chase fish on the 'ole Active Target.
Could have saved myself some effort as most of the fish came out of the one hole, but it only took 15minutes to drilll and set up, so what the heck. I fished for maybe an hour and a half and got some good eater size walleye which went back to fight the good fight another day.

Always jealous how early you can get out. Little guys but at least you got to scratch the itch.
Definitely a case of ‘itch scratched’ , 3 weeks or so since I last wet a line.

Hi All,
Took a drive down the road trying to find some ice i feel comfortable on. I found 5" inches yesterday on Eagle Lake , but it was near current so today I opted for a lake that usually freezes up quick but is pretty poor fishing through the ice. There was 8" inches of solid black ice and even a few small walleye to reward my efforts. It was -16℃ with winds gusting to 40kmh....COLD!

I went back in history and found it, it's in English for me.
Yeah, my Youtube has been acting up, it keeps switching languages on me, been through all the settings on all my devices and it stops for a while and then starts again...annoying.

Thanks! For some reason the video is in Hindi…so I’ll just have to take lessons in that and then try.

Better to replace the battery if everything else is OK, I'm doing that today with this phone. Eighty dollars as opposed to six or seven hundred
Still on my iPhone 8 with its original battery, but an upgrade is in order as the charge port is completely worn out and you practically have to tape the charger in place… pain in the rump.

Four inches of good ice is LOTS to walk on! Ask the lunatics around Owen Sound who go out on an inch and a half...........or used to when I lived down that way.....
Every year when you post your first ice post, I envy you! No doubt we will soon be seeing some shots of walleye and crappies coming up through the ice...
Doug
I would have gone today, but it’s -20C with winds gusting to 35kmh…I’ll sit this one out…. Lol.

honestly limey im surprised its taken you this long lol
Saw a photo yesterday, the by's while staying close to shore, are out on the scugog Bog!
I think a few of the small ponds around here are accessible, but you want to be limber enough to certainly haul your wet butt back out when you go in. Its been a christmas tradition for me the past few years, falling into the lake 😆
Yeah, I’m surprised too…I’m seeing lots of first ice fish being caught on my Facebook feed( stinking algorithms) from waaaay south of me. We froze up nearly two weeks ago only for a complete thaw to take place two days after, had to wait another week for it to lock up again. Back in the day I would have found somewhere to fish… but there is a direct correlation to my age and gung ho attitude..the latter has decreased considerably.

I really like the ION and it has been solid with no issues,
Hence I am leaning to a new ION
However what are you guys using or reccomend?
Could the ION auger bit be used on a drill?
By the time I buy a drill and auger bit I am at price of the IONCan you not get replacement batteries?

Hi all,
Daytime temps were above freezing yesterday(just) so headed down to the shore for a couple casts, actually did really good for walleye too but they didn't bite until practically dark and the camera doesn't do well in low light.
Had 4 or five follows and landed two decent pike while casting...all good....but come on ICE!
Before our 'warm up' on Saturday the river, where there is current, had a decent skim and we have double digit minus ℃ for the next week...not long now!
