  8. Pond Management Questions

    A friend of mine bought a property with two ponds on them. The smaller pond is going to go away when he builds a home (it's shrinking now anyway). He asked me some questions, and I'm going to see what I can find out, but I thought I'd post it here too.

    Also, if you have some spare time and want to help me research a question I have on bluegills. I am noticing a lot of gills and wonder if I should be removing some of them.

    - How many bluegills should be in a half acre pond?

    - Depending on the answer to number one, are their size limit ratios for the gills? So many big ones, versus small and how this relates to bass size. If they are all small, the bass will have food. If they are big, then they may compete for food, right?

    I found some good info from the Indiana DNR website, and I'm sure there are 100's others when I go to Google...but if you have any of that first hand knowledge, let me know.

    So sorry to hear of such a huge loss Cliff. It sounds like you had a great relationship. Be comforted in the knowledge of what a priviledge it was to know him and may his memories comfort you going forward. My prayers are with your wife, and you on that last fishing trip.

    My next fish will be for Herb and I will pause for the loss of your fishing buddy.

    Dustin, that's a fabulous picture of your little guy looking at the bass, and you can just imagine the thoughts going thru his young mind !! :thumbsup_anim:

     

    That shot is definetely worth framing and hanging on the wall !!

     

     

    Yep! Set it as my wallpaper this morning in the office, and told the wife I want a framed 5x7 as well!!!

     

    Now...if I could just get my other son Photoshop'ed out.....anyone want to practice PS, feel free!

  23. Too wet to mow, so.....

    Rain came through when I got home from work, so I couldn't mow (really bothered by that), so the wife and kids wanted to walk back to the neighbor's pond....

     

    I gave in and grabbed my rod. Was there for about 15 min, and wife says, "Two more casts".

     

    Last cast, I land this nice fish:

    Gotta have 1 more cast after that. Dang! Another one spit the hook.

     

    "1 more cast honey....promise". Here comes this one....bigger than the first!
