  1. Just got back from there. Complete zoo. I was one of the first 100 in the line....another 2000 were behind me I think. lol Couldn't really check out the store. Got a few deals from the bargain cave and some freebies (hat, shirt, beer cozies, beef jerky).

  2. I'll be heading there tomorrow.....just 'cuz it's literally 3mins away from my house. Wasn't too overly excited about the flyer so it'll be more like a walk around the store. I went to the West Virginia store opening years ago and that place was wild!!!

  3. On Saturday, I took a buddy's offer and did something that I should've done a long time ago and that was stray away from Lake Simcoe and hit some new territory which was 3hrs away. Up at 2:30am and on the ice at 7am after a few pit stops.
The day started off slow, landed a few 12"ers and finally hooked into something big....so I thought. Turns out I had hooked a skinny laker in the tail. I thought I had a 15lb'er on by the way it was fighting. 1/2hr later, I hook up with something with some size to it. After a lengthy battle, a nice northern lake trout surfaced! Wow, they fight like crazy here!!
Everyone landed fish today which was awesome! Big thanks to my fellow Bass Magnet Lures pro-staffers Michael McNaught and Matthew Heayn for a great day out there! Bass Magnet Lures supplied the Simcoe Pearl which was my "go-to" tube today. It got every fish for me that day.

  4. While fishing with my buddy in the Kawarthas last year, he caught a nice 3lb'ish smallie. He bent down to "lip it", put his rod down beside him, and just as he lifted the smallie out of the water, a huge musky grabbed the smallie right out of his hand. Scared the heck out of him and me. Needless to say his rod and reel went with the musky, as did the smallie. lol

  5. I had some time yesterday morning so I threw together a little video of one of my first outings this January. Nothing big but it was awesome getting out there close to a month earlier then previous years.......on the ATV too!

I know you guys like to hear the reel peeling line but I use the waterproof case for the GoPro so you'll have to listen to a little bit of RUSH instead! :)

  6. Just wanted to give a huge thanks to the guys who helped me with my ATV this morning at the Government Docks. One gentleman was on a sled and the other one was on a Suzuki ATV.....and of course Jesse (kenzy31) and his dad helping me get it on my trailer.
Funny how things work. I had no problems getting out on the lake, setting up and even fished for a few mins before my buddy Peter (Stroudster) texted and said my interior light was on in my truck. That one text saved me a mountain of headaches because I packed up my gear and made it all the way back to the hill at the government dock and my ATV died. I can't imagine what would've happened if I didn't get Peter's text and I drove out further on the lake. Anyways, the guy on the sled helped me get my machine pretty much all the way up the hill, and the guy on the other ATV pulled me up on to flat ground. Then Jesse drove me to my truck and him and his dad helped me get it on my trailer.
Just wanted to give all you guys a HUGE THANKS!!!

On another note........still not sure what's wrong with the ATV. Looks like it may be leaking gas. There was a puddle in my trailer when I got home. It turns over over fine but it's just not catching, like it's not getting gas. Waiting for the snow to melt off of it before I dive into the guts of it.
    Ideas anyone????

    Colin.

Sounds like the lake is in dire straits, lol. It's Simcoe man, it will always be busy. Like someone else mentioned, if you want solitude it's probably not the place for you.

On the other hand Bill, if you do want solitude come to Lake Simcoe! It's a vast body of water with great fishing areas all over it. I'm a Simcoe die hard and never fish in the crowds......even during perch season. :) See you on the ice this year, Bill!!

  8. I had an x67c for years and loved it. Did everything I needed in a fish finder. I decided to upgrade so I picked up a Marcum LX7. WOW! Sick piece of machinery! Now it's staring at me until the ice hits! IMO, you definitely need a graph in order to see the "history" of the fish....especially in deep water. (ie Lake Simcoe lakers) The LX7 and x67 both have flasher modes which are as close to real time as the human eye can tell. Better to have several choices/options in a fish finder then just one.
