  1. Ok guys, that is an absolutely awesome night of fishing!! Without giving too much away, were you guys fishing off shore? If so, you may also have a record bag of fish from shore. Blyte's fish could be a record weight for this year.....has anyone else bagged a walleye over 14 lbs? If so, let us know....we gotta keep track of these large fish and award a prize for the largest live release of the year!! I'm guessing that a 15 lber is gonna be caught at Quinte before freezeup 'cause the fish just keep getting bigger as the water gets colder. I can't give away my secret walleye spot on Lake O, but let's just say my buddy Duane and I landed over 150 lbs of walleye in 5 hours of fishing one night many, ok....many, many years ago hotshotting Bomber Long A's in a current area. We just couldn't miss! Largest was a 34 inch long, 21 inch girth fish that tipped our scales at 16.75 lbs. I'll never forget it.....Congrats gentlemen, when we're open to learning new tactics, isn't it great when they pay off?.....you guys have raised the bar big time!!!
  2. Dropaline, just bumped you with a PM.... BabyHerc, you make some good suggestions there. Shimano has some decent entry level steelhead product as well. I would add one manufacturer on the higher end choices, G. Loomis. Been fishing them for years and their responsiveness and light weight make them a winner. And, you can lean on a bolting king (chinook) salmon in tight quarters with no worries. Mind you, some models are 200 to 350 dollars, so not suited to everyone's price range. Sage is another amazing product, for both fly rods and steelhead/salmon but they're way up there in price!!
  3. Oh no worries there. These guys have been dealing with pressure cracks forever up on Nipissing. It's all part of the experience. We weren't worried at all, just interesting to know the ice moves like that on occasion. We were awoken at about 3 am one year when a big crack came across the lake overnight that sounded like a freight train. It was incredible, and it just shook the bungalow a little. We found it the following day, maybe 2 inches across.
  4. Yep, this will be our fourth year out of South Shore. Our crew usually take up 2 units on the weekend closest to the opener. Cara and Garnett are great hosts, excellent service and units are always clean and functional. Most years we land 20 to 30 good fish. Last year was tough because of a violent cold front that showed up the Friday we arrived, they had to build a wooden bridge to get us over the 2 ft. gap in the ice. You gotta book early though, they're likely over 80% booked for the coming year.
  5. Nice fish, and diggin' that background. Is that a wallpaper mural or something?
  6. Rich, it definitely took some guts to come out and admit what you've done. We've all told the odd fish story over the years, or embellished one. I had my picture taken with a 168 lb. tarpon in South Carolina a number of years ago, and was so tempted to tell people I caught it. We're fishermen, we slip up sometimes Someone put it well in an earlier post that it just so happens this happened in front of a very large audience. You did the right thing by coming clean, and it takes a big person to do that in front of everyone. All is forgiven. And hey, look at the brightside......there's no one here disputing you can catch big fish! I watched your clip of that mammoth king you landed earlier in the year. That was your fish right? I'm kidding!!.....let's get back to fishing!
  7. Lake O. off a trib for us. Counted a couple browns and small walleye last time out.
