I was out on Bronte a few weeks ago just having some fun, scouting, and practicing some new techniques. I was working upstream when I came to a hard right bend and I noticed the water ahead was considerably slower and darker. I figured it was a nice pool so I immediately headed to the shore and decided to approach the pool under cover heavy cover. I worked myself towards the pool all the while keeping myself behind the foliage. Once in range I lobbed my woolly bugger (with casting bubble) to the far side and worked it back. All of a sudden this monster pulled out from his hole and smashed it. It took me some time to pull it in due to my fear that my 4lb mono was going to let me down. Nevertheless here's the smallie. My net is approximately 17" and the bass was slightly larger than it.

AWESOME....that's all I needed to hear! -
Good afternoon everyone, I was just at CDN Tire checking things out and I noticed this rod 50% off. So, without much hesitation I got it. Partly because I wanted an almost full compliment of rods 5' 6" Ulta, 6' 6" medium and my 10' 6" light but also and I've been doing some small stream, tight places trout fishing. So my question to you guys is what are the advantages and disadvantages for such a rod? It's sooooo light and flexible that it freaks me out. I'm worried about hooking in a good size fish and the rod shatters in my hands. Thanks for all your advice in advance! Pags

Have to make a new comment on this. While I was reading what the rest of you had to say on this I decided to call the Ministry and they said that a treble = single hook. It also happens that I also asked the same question to the Ministry via web and I received my reply yesterday. The reply stated that the treble must go! What the hell are these guys doing? So which one of the answers is correct?

I'll be heading to Bronte tonight with that helps. I pulled a 17" out of there the other day with a Wooly. That was quite the battle.

Would 5" Berkley Leeches texas rigged with a 3/O hook be too large for smallies?

What bait should I add to the jig?

Good morning all, I'm going to be heading out to a couple streams tonight fishing deep pools for smallies and I was wondering what are the suggested baits for bass creek/river fishing? Would crayfish plastics texas rigged work the best? Thanks for the advice.

And if I don't have a boat?

Where are the non-smolt trout?

Good morning everyone, For the past week I've been working the Bronte up and down and I've had a ton of success catching 7 - 9" rainbows. Each catch I tell myself these guys have to be growing somewhere and it's just a matter of time before I land a larger one. But, how long do they traditionally stay in the river before they return to the lake? And secondly, would there be larger resident Bows in the creek? Thanks again for any input.

Yesterday I caught 3 small Bows and what appeared to be a pretty rough around the edges Steel.

I saw some of the creek today and there are many deep pools out there. I just don't know what to go with? All spinners or try some flys with a float bubble.

I was wondering if anyone who's fished Whiteman's can offer me some advice on where to go? Now, I'm not looking for your hot-spot but just general locations (where roads meet the creek) because I'm heading out tomorrow morning and I don't have much time at all to scout and then fish. Thanks, MJP P.S. If anyone wants to go PM me.

Called the Ministry. 1 treble = 1 single.

Hello, I'm heading to Brantford this weekend and was going to scout and fish Whiteman's Creek. I have a question about my spinners. Do I have to replace the trebles to a single? And if so, how do I do it without snipping the treble off? Thanks

Oh Captain Bruce, Aren't we the comic! Please do pass on the membership card for out-of-season anglers so I can fill it out. Is that what you are getting at! I do know the differnce between a trout and a bass I was just trying to identify whether it was migratory or not...I'll admit that. But I do think I've identified what type of .... you are.

Really, That's a tough break. I have to ask then how am I not entitled to fish water for a species that is in season? I have no choice what grabs my line especially since the lure is useable for both trout and bass. Did your friend challenge the charge with the Ministry?

As BillM mentioned, the Bow was in rough shape. Immediately after the our little fight it started to go down like the Bismark. I'm curious as to why it was in rough shape? I was fishing in a Lake Ontario trib so I'm assuming it was a resident trout and it's at home and under no migratory spawning pressure. But maybe I'm wrong? Would this Bow have made the same travels as a steelie or Chinook? Also, should I have kept it? Thanks again, MJP

I'm well aware of the bass opener. I only landed 1 and it never came out of the water. Also, I pinch all my barbs so not to worry.

Well, I decided to go out tonight because it was such a wonderful evening and the rain has kept me in all week. I was working the creek that I usually do and paying special attention to the deeper pools only. With the limited amount of time I had (wife pressure) and the gin clear water I decided to use my go to #2 Mepps Bronze. I came to one of my favourite spots and worked the pool from upstream first. I simply cast straight across and reeled in as slow as I possibly could...enough to keep the blades spinning. I landed 3 good size smallies immediately and lost 2 on great vertical jumps. Man they love to play. So, I try again and all of a sudden this reddish/brown object jumps on the lure. After a good battle I pulled it in but was more occupied with releasing it and getting it back into the water no worse for wear than taking a good picture! So here it is. It's length was just a bit past the length of my fingertip to elbow. I'm assuming it's a rainbow but if I'm wrong please let me know. P.S. FINALLY!

Guys I need your help. This is my first year fishing the salmon family and I'm putting in some serious hours trying to master the skill. I'm getting very confident but not catching a whole lot of trout. To this day I've landed 6 Bows about the length of my hand and their little fight was awesome. I truly want to experience the larger sized trout but I don't knwo where to go. If you want, we can work out a partnership fishing experience. I can offer some great locations for Coho and Steelhead runs, carp and bass. If any of you would be willing to fish together at a productive trout stream I'm down...just PM me. Ciao

I love a question about fishing the spinners. What is the best approach or technique when using them? Also, I thought I was fishing a nice small pool at the end of a run this morning with my #1 Vibrax Pink when all of a sudden I saw a fish approach, attack and snap my line off. After further investigation I noticed that the majorit of the fish in this stream were smallies. Do smallies have that much power to snap my 4lb line?

What's your thoughts on a casting bubble? I've used it all this week and have landed 6 smaller Bows. I would assume it will work as well as your ear plug float? Also, the orange sponge...what size do you cut it before it is wet? I have used it this week and it really does look like roe when it's wet but I haven't had any success with it.
