Spoke with the guys at the show and they have a great family deal. Told them we wanted to focus on good pike with enough walleye to eat, and per there availability we ended up with Snare Lake for June 4th for 5 days this spring. I'm sure we are in for some decent fishing but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this lake, or the air service and their lakes in general. Any advice would be great! Cheers, Andrew

I'm just about steelheaded out until the spring and looking forward to the ice season, Ive fished bass in Eugenia in the summer with a bit of luck (bass) but was wondering if its worth a shot through the ice. This lake is close to me (orangeville)and if anyone has any experience on the ice there I'd like to know more about it, thanks!

Thanks all, very helpful info. As far as the slinky weights, are they not fished in a similar way to a pencil lead on the bottom of a three way swivel rig? If not then it is a totally new concept to me.

I've been fishing steelies in the rivers now for four years yet have never taken my boat out on the river. I'm thinking about launching at Queenston sometime next week. I've read up on basics of the three way rig and watched some helpful episodes of Aaron and Barry's show yet would still like some advice for the current conditions. I'm mostly concerned with weather or not to get a NY state licence or weather the Ontario side is productive enough, and also which sections to focus on primarily keeping fast currents in mind. I have a 35hp lowe with a bowmount, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Just another question, on an american site it advises not to fish upstream of the Lewiston bridge without a guide if you have limited experience on the river due to fast current. I know the fishing is still pretty good up to and past the hydro dam just wondering how dangerous the water is, I'm in a 16.5 foot 35hp boat with trolling motor and such, just don't want to get into something nasty unexpectedly.

Looks like an awesome day, I've yet to fish steelhead by boat but am thinking about heading down to the Niagara sometime next week. If you don't mind me asking where is the most convenient place to launch?

I just learned how to fly last year, and an only a few hours away from having my full licence, and i gotta say i couldnt have picked a scarier time to decide to be a pilot. How many planes have crashed this/last year now? Its getting ridiculous. Recession making airlines/flight schools, etc.. cut maintenence costs or something? I really hope this trend doesnt continue.

Hey, I live there and pretty much same as u said. lots of small pike a few maybe 5 pounds at the biggest. Some decent bass tho, most were gone after pike were introduced into the lake but this winter tons were caught through the ice oddly so that will probably be decent again this summer.

Hey, I really have no clue about smelt fishing other than my moms Romanian and told me stories I always thought were gross of cookin them and eating them whole. I dont know if its steelhead or salmon your after, but if your gonna be using artificial bait I would reccomend Berkley Gulp 2.5 inch floating worms in bubble gum colour. There no secret, but when the bite is off on roe, and around this time of year, they can be dynamite. Just make sure you rig your splitshot properly as you would with anything floating, Mike's Mallows included.

Hey, not to discredit rock bass and perch and the like, but the time for bucketloads of them is coming soon. Trust me I totally understand you frustration with steelhead fishing around this time of year. But for the simplicity of goin by the river and even tossing out a live worm and float on a conventional spinning rod, and hooking into large,beautiful and fresh rainbows, it really can't be beat. I've only really got into steelheading in the last couple of years, but before id just take my 6,6 60 dollar spinning combo and follow my avid steelheader friend around for fun, net his fish and toss worms when he didnt have enough roe to share and caught quite a few of nice fish. For someone who appreciates resident trout fishing, I think given that given the right circumstances, and a nice peice of river, you would fall in love with stealheading like many others on these fourms. P.S. I could however go for nice pan fried perch right now tho, didn't get out for many this ice fishin season....

Hey everyone, headin to the GFs in Bowmanville on the weekend so obviously some fishing is going down. Problem is im at school in waterloo and not sure where to find roe in this area and will probably be goin straight to fishing friday morning. Also in the short two years ive been fishing tribs out east Ive still never bought a long net so I've stayed away from the Ganny in town. Is it decent fishing etiquette to ask to borrow a net if I hook a fish down there? I figure there will probably never be a time on fri-sunday where there wont be a ton of people down there anyways. Yeah I figured that, I have about 4 or 5 spots im thinking of checking, Im just at school like 2 hours away and wondering how thick the ice is in general over there in pools and such with the few days of mild weather we got (I realize faster runs will be clear) if i decide to make the trip.

I Know its a bit premature but these mild days have me wondering if there is any good spots east of GTA right now where the ice is broken up pretty good. If anyone's been out in the last few week lemmie know what its like, I can't wait much longer, Im petty close to lower grand too so if anyone's been over there that would be great too!

Hey guys, me and my buddies do a bit of a budget fishing trip every spring. Last year we camped out on the South shore of Nippising, but ended up with maybe 12 relativley small walleye and no pike for 6 guys and 3 days. Weather it was us or the conditions it wanst too eventful but fun none the less. This year we want to get some more good sized pike. I was wondering I could get some advice on where to go maybe 4-5 hours max from the GTA, towing a boat, where I could get into some good spring pike fishing. Preferably somewhere we could camp, im 20 and broke. Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Went to angus (area) today saw a steelie jump on some 6th concession place i tried, tried a few more bridge acces spots south of Angus and walked north of the hwy 90 bridge. Nothing at all floating roe, switched to fly gear and caught 4 beautiful creek chub..... Glad I didnt go and try and pay.

Im planning to drive to angus early tomorrow but have never fished there, where are the best access points in the area and has anyone heard of steelhead being caught up there yet???

Hold on, if a 6'6 works fine should the 8' be plenty for the grand? Or is a 9 footer really a better all around choice? It just seems long fishing a creek thats less than 15' wide in lots of places (credit), even tho a foot less isnt that much, i just thought it would strike a balance between the two. I like my 10' steelhead pole but just from using that it seems that it would be far more enjoyable using something of a more compact length fishing for smaller fish often on smaller water.

I actually went by bass pro to pick up some steelhead stuff and had another look at rods/reels (ill buy one next pay check) and have actually decided i might spring for a sage launch in a 4 wt, only thing is I wish they made it in 8'6, its either 8' or 9' again ill be fishing the grand and credit and i kinda am leaning towards the 8' because it will be used for the upper credit, but I dont really know from experience weather this is the optimal length for some wider sections of the grand.

I live in Orangeville Ont. and only have about 5 hours of fishing time available on Sun morning. Which leaves me around 1 hour each way for driving. Id like to hook into some steelhead on the fly but they still probably havent had a solid run yet in either Lake O or Huron tribs, salmon will be more likely. I was thinking Erindale park or maybe somewhere on the Notty. Any opinion from recent experience is great!!!

Thanks alot for the help everyone! my budget was going to be around 250 for rod and reel (i know most of you will be like what the hell?) but im 20, poor and a student, and on top taking flying lessons so anything is an expense, but there is a good arguement for going to something like a sage and not having to upgrade for a while. Even if I go Sage with a cheaper (not cheap) reel then upgrade to a nicer reel in the future. I have lots to think about...thanks again.

Hello, I just wanted to get a few opinions on what makes the most sense for my next fly rod/reel choice. I recently got into the sport and have a 7 wt 10' rod for steelhead and bass. There are some good end of season deals around and i was just wondering an appropriate length/wt for my summertime river/stream trout intentions. I plan to fish the Grand river for stocked browns in Elora/Fergus often as I live near by, but also the Upper Credit which is a significantly smaller stream in most parts. I know everyone says 9 foot 5wt for a good all around starter, but i've used a 4wt and it makes fighting small trout very fun however most of these rods in my price range however are in the 7'6-8 foot range. Would this be long enough to make decent casts on the grand? Because this would be nicer than a longer 5 wt on the credit and I dont have the cash for a 5 wt and a small 2 or 3 wt stream rod. Any imput would be great!
