If the lake has open water by january 1st... is it ok to fish for them out of a boat of does it have to be through the ice??

I install garage doors and openers for a living... Most people will charge you 80 to a hundred to install an opener.
The opener you purchased is a pain in the ass to install (too many parts) The screw drive system isint very good.. its louder than a straight chain drive operator and if your door doesent operate smoothly then the opener doesent always wanna shut the door.
If you have a wood door you dont really need any extra bracing to secure the top section but if its metal it is best to install a peice of punched angle spanning the whole top of the door.
Home depot has Chainberlain 1/2 hp chain drive operators for 220.00 tax inc. personally i would return the genie screw drive.

spinners... vibrex # 2 in silver works well most of the time. Sometimes a size smaller others a size bigger, depending on the river conditions...

I've always believed if they were able to make it across the ocean they'd make it the last few miles into the lakes.
Are you serious ... i dont think they swam across the ocean...

Last year i was up in wilberforce for new years and the lake had 4-6 inches of good solid ice with no snow on top.. hopefully things freeze up sooner than later!

Trout season opens January 1st on the lake i fished last year with some success.. so im wondering if ayone can give me an idea if there is any ice forming on the lakes?
Is the ice good every year by jan. 1st?

No snow or ice in southern ontario either...

Underwater cameras are great for ice fishing because the water clears due to no wind or rain mudding up the water after the ice forms, they also very good in very clear lakes... but!... for lakes that don't freeze over and aren't clear they're of little use. I bought one and have only used it a couple of times because the visibility on the lake I fish is never more than a foot or so and I can't see diddly!
There's not much to see Glen.... Im sure dams look simular below water as above

Usually with trout, the ones you see are not the ones you catch.
You hit the nail on the head with that one..

From what i read in the regulations it say that the rouge river is closed from sept. 30 for trout anywhere from hwy 2 north.
I was in the area today and seen 2 fellows in full trout gear fishin a few clicks north of hwy 2..
am i mistaken or were they fishin out of bounds??
