  1. My buddy and I went fishing for the first time on Stony today. We rented a tincan from Kawartha Park Marina. Are there other boat rental marinas on Stony? The boat they rented out at KPM must've been from the WWII. It was full steel and slow. lol Typically, we fish out of Chemong, and had decent luck with LM bass. We were looking for some SM bass on Stony. We spent the day fishing around the 2 islands across from the KPM ,since our boat didn't really make for traveling far. we caught about 6 SM bass, most were dinks, between 1-1.5 lbs. they were in about 16-18 FOW, with mostly jigs/grubs and tubes. Any recommendations on lures to use on Stony?
  2. So its time to replace my fishing rod and reel. As per my other thread, my storage locker was broken in and stole my fishing equipment. I am thinking of getting a spinning reel and rod to finish off this fishing season. Then in the fall will buy the rest. I am mainly fish for Bass and Walleye, using variety of lures(tubes, grubs, senkos's, dropshot, jig's, spinners, and crank's). How often does the manufacturers update their reels? I was thinking of getting either the Shimano Stradic FJ or Sustain FG, and combining that with the St. Croix Avid. How old is the Sustain FG, its older than the Stradic's right? I am probably going for the Sustain. As for the Rod, what about the St. Croix Legend Extreme as compared to the Avid? I need to have a 2 peice rod, thus why I am choosing those 2. Does the Shimano Crucial compare? there is a 2 peice 7.2' Crucial. Which one would pair better with the Sustain? Then in the fall, I'll probably buy the Stradic Ci4 again for the lightweight. What rod should I pair that with? thanks
  3. I didn't keep copies of my receipts.....not sure how strict Co-Operators are with proving ownership of the content?
  4. My underground condo storage was just broken into today....There was at least 10 other lockers broken in and looks like the thief were targeting sporting equipment, bicycles, golf and fishing gears. All the 'good' fishing gears was taken...they did leave the nets and PFD's. Please be on a lookout for for sale ads on Kijji/craig'slist for the following: St. Croix Avid spinning rod Shimano Compre baitcaster Shimano Convergence Spinning rod Shimano Curado 201e7 baitcaster Shimano Stradic Ci4 spinning reel Shimano Sahara spinning reel (2) numerous lures(soft and hard) to list... I am totally shocked, stunned, and heartbroken....All my fishing gear gone. This was in the Yonge and Sheppard area....
  5. Just to give an update on my rod replacement. I shipped the broken rod to the US St. Croix location using Canada Post, cost was $22. This was 3 weeks ago. Yesterday, I received a brand new replacement Avid rod in the mail. It was packaged in a very solid shipping tube. No questions asked, they didn't even call me for explanation or anything. Now this is what I call customer service. Makes me want to continue buying St. Croix rods with their lifetime warranty.
  6. I just called JB Fishing Depot, and they still charge a shipping charge for them to send the rod to St. Croix, something like $25 bucks.... If that's the case, i might as well do it myself.
  7. Even if I didn't buy the rod at that dealer? I purchased the rod at an US store when i was down there.
  8. Anybody have experience with sending rods back to St. Croix for repair/replacement? Last summer I snapped an 1 year old Avid spinning rod at the tip, and I never got around to sending it back. I just called St. Croix today, and they told me to send it either their Wisconsin location or the Fedex transfer in Mississauga along with a $30 cheque and they will either repair or replace. Which location is better to send to and what is a good shipping container for the rod(its a 2 peice model). thanks
  9. I am looking for a guides for Bass or Walleye fishing around the Kawathra's or anywhere near 1-2 years from GTA. This would be 2-3 people. Any recommendations?
  10. The Bayview/Sheppard CT had plenty of the Suffix's, in all sizes.
  11. after some more searching, looks like some of the G.Loomis spinning rods come in 2 peice. What does people think of the GL3 in either 6.6 or 7', both Medium Fast. The more I look, the more pricier it gets...
  12. Thanks for all the responses... I think I have narrowed down my spinning rod to the St. Croix Avid(AVS70MF2) for $200USD or the St. Croix Avid(AVS70ULM2) for $180USD. (I am buying this in the US, as I work there during the week and fly home on the weekends). My problem is finding a 2 peice baitcasting rod to go with my Curado201...There really is not many options out there....Might go with the St. Croix Premier 6.6(PC66MF2) for $120USD. How is that compared to the Shimano Compre6.10MH? Found Gagnon Sports carrying that one in 2 peice for $110 CDN. I need 2 peice for the ease of transportation. I don't have my own boat, and when i fish, usually its on tin-can rentals, or buddies' 16/18 footers. It'll be tough trying to fit a 1 peice in my car. I currently have 2 Sahara's with 6.6 shimano Clarus, that I mostly use for Texas rigs, Senkos, jigging, dropshotting, spinners. Already got the Curado201E during a sale last month(paid $140USD) and will be ordering the Stradic Ci4 for $199. Looking to add the baitcaster(my first) for some cranks...
  13. Looking to get a couple of new rods for this season....1 spinning and 1 baitcasting. Mainly for LM/SM bass fishing. The reels will be Curado 201E7 & StradicC4i.. My problem is that the rods have to be a 2 peice..So I am considering St. Croix Premier, Shimano Compres, TFO(anyone used TFO's?) my question is, should I go with a 6.6 or 7.0 rod?
  14. Any luck in Chemong today? I was on the south end, and didn't have much luck....most of the weeds were gone.... Where to target Bass/Walleye in the cold water?
  15. It was the handle. Where the speed selector is and the battery strength tester.........not the propeller part that was underwater. Now still shows battery power. But the propeller doesn't turn
  16. Last month I bought a Minn-Kota traxxis55 troller from Lebaron's. Took it out a few times...the last time out...the motor started smoking up...I turned it off.... But now the motor won't start again... Do I take it back toLebaron to fix or is there a minn-Kota dealer? I am assuming it's still covered by warranty?..
  17. I am looking for a fishing guide for within 2 hour drive of the GTA. Needs to hold 2-3 person. Any good recommendations? Looking for ones that will provide some insightful techinques into Walleye or Bass fishing. thanks.
  18. I am still a fairly new fisherman, mostly going for Bass's...Having some success by using soft plastics with jigheads..(grubs, worms, senko's, gulp minnows,etc...) in the edge of weedbed. but i can't seem to figure out how to fish inside the weedbeds. Every cast, and I retrieve my hook/liine gets lots of weed...Tried texas rigging, or using weedless hooks, and I still get tons of weeds, and don't get the fish? What is the trick to fishing in the weeds, without pulling weed out or managing to catch fish?
  19. Has anyone ever rented a cottage from : http://www.bluewaterfamilycottages.com/index.html Blue water family cottages on Honey Harbour? We're thinking of renting a cottage for the Ontario Civic Holiday weekend(July 31-aug3)...and are finding most of the cottages have a 1 week minimum....Blue Water will along a 3 night stay. How's the fishing around that area? we'll be using their rental boats so can't go out too far. If not Bluewater/Honey Harbour, are there any other recommendations?
  20. i tried typing in 'hasting dam ontario'...in google map and no returns... what should I type in? if the shore fishing still good there?
  21. Looking to do some shore fishing at the Hastings dam....can someone give driving directions from Toronto? thanks
  22. thanks all for the replies.....what are the typical size for walleyes up here in ontario? And the skin on the one that I caught was very 'yellow' , while i see others are more pale. Is this typical colour for walleyes caught at Chemong? Are there many walleyes at that lake? All I have caught at Chemong on the south side are Basses....On the north side, I once hooked a walleye, but my line snapped.
  23. lol...don't want my face all over the internet.....too many enemies out there...lol any idea on what it weights?
  24. Was out on Lake Chemong this Saturday targeting Bass on the south side of the causeway, near one of the smaller islands...Been hitting a few smaller LMB when we went out a little further from the island in about 7-8 FOW caught my first ever Walleye. Haven't seriously fished for too long, probably only out 2-3 times a year in the past 10 years. Only this year have started to really learn to fish and been out on the water more often. It measured 25", but we didn't have a scale on the boat so don't know the weight of the fish. Very good feeling and good fight....Will definitely target the walleyes more often.
  25. We will be heading up to Reach Harbour cottage for the Civic holiday weekend(Aug1)...I believe its on the Buckhorn lake.. Any advice as to where to fish on Buckhorn for and what is available? Looking for Bass and Walleyes.
