But the .0136 is the percentage of death for the whole population not the percentage of those infected which would be far higher.

But we have no way of determining how many were/are infected as there isn't wide spread testing.

Who knows how many are actually infected.  This entire deal is a manipulated numbers game to support agendas regardless of which side of the fence you are on.

Me, I am going to live my life taking into account China flu, but in no way is it going to put a halt to my normal life.

I understand folks like to take potshots at the US, it has always been that way.  You can only apply infection and fatality rates to the entire population to get a true picture.

If you take European countries, lump them together to get to a population number equal to the US, their fatality rate is double.

    Yes

but they have to self isolate for 14 days before you contact anyone   That’s family ,gas stations or anywhere else

I am aware of that and it really isn't a problem to do so even though it would be impossible to enforce.

The gentleman that I talked with was super nice and informative.  He said for TW to have her birth certificate as well as something to prove Canadian property ownership and if the restrictions are still in place at that time having a covid test and have the results with us.

WE know it will be a hassle to cross so if it adds a day to the trip, so be it.

We will have to stop for gas after crossing but that can be done from the pump and I will have to pee at least once but for anyone that fishes, that isn't a problem.

After we cross in Detroit it is about 7 hours to the cottage if we take the 407.

I wouldn't count on make that trip unfortunately. Not gonna happen...

It will happen.  I am not the type to not be prepared.  I have directly contacted CBSA and there is a procedure for it.

The wife is still a Canadian citizen with a Canadian passport with immediate relatives living in Canada.

A foreign national who is an immediate family member of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident is exempt from the travel restrictions and permitted to travel to Canada if they have the required travel documents.

I have done that and used words that I invented on the spot because there were no suitable known words for the event.

I have close relatives that live all across the U.S.A. including Honolulu. Each and everyone of them swear on a stack of Bibles that their county has the highest tax rate in the free World. Then I show them ours and they change the subject. Services, services? What are services? I have had to call 911 twice for what turned out to be very serious. 2 volunteer Firefighters were here in 20 minutes and the on call ambulance was here in 30 minutes. We all knew that before signing on the dotted line to finalize the sale.

I don't think you and I are the only ones to question this now infamous 750 buck ticket. The pic has absolutely nothing to do with C-19. I posted it because I like it.

Our corporate tax rates are high, personal tax rates aren't too bad if you understand the tax code and have a good CPA.

The thing with Canadian taxes that blows me away are the death taxes.

Since you like the big CC's, this is a video from down here on the Bama coast.  39 Ft NorTech @ 94.1 mph.

What is the acronym LTC stand for?

The zoning will be on your annual tax roll, our tax statement says we are zoned "hazardous agriculture seasonal residential."

My wife tells me I believe everything initially because I'm a Libra. My scales are tipped towards the $750.00 ticket doesn't exist.

I have never paid much attention to the tax statement.  we just have it set up for automated quarterly payments out of the Canadian account at Scotia.  I think it is way too high but then I do the eagles to maple leafs  discount and I feel a little better.  The main reason that I think it is high is that for the tax we have hardly any service.  About the only thing is supposedly fire and police, but we are so far out the cottage would be ashes before they got here.  we have no water, sewage ...no anything.

I am with you, I think the $750 ticket is a rumor that got fed on the internet.

Of course it is less likely to get the virus when you and perhaps a spouse is the only people in a few hundred acres or more of space. The Gov discourages people traveling from highly densely populated cities to rural areas as they are more likely to pass it on up in God's country. Also the more vehicles on the road the more likely accidents will occur then the accident victims are going to need 1st responders and the resources associated with an accident. This is how I understand the no travel ban advice, it isn't law, yet.

Our property is listed as "Seasonal Residential." No one including our politicians can tell us what exactly seasonal residential really means. There was a time about 12 years ago someone started the rumour that the Real Estate Police dressed in black riot garb were going to take you from your warm beds in the middle of the night and throw you out to the Coywolves. Our town councilor assured everyone no one is getting tossed from their cottages or homes. What the definition for a cottage isn't even clear. Some of the new cottages being built out here are 3500 sqft or larger McMansions not Grandma and Grandpas little 2 bedroom cottage with a little woodstove. In our neighbourhood 80% of the seasonal residential homes are lived in year round. Some go to warmer climates for the winter, some like us are away only a month during the winter, sometimes. I would love to be in court when that $750.00 ticket is brought forward. The guy can call Premier Doug Ford as a witness.

Johnny D/hunkered down in Selkirk ON.

9 days no smoking so far. We are actually going to stop counting. That is a good thing. Feel pretty good to, not great but good.

To my knowledge we don't have the seasonal residential deal in Napanee, or at least nothing is designated on the property tax bill.

Now this is just my opinion, but before I believe the $750 ticket, I am going to have to see a copy of it.

As far as the smoking, is the food starting to taste better and food smell better cooking?  when I quit, it took a few months before all of my senses sort of got back to normal.

Yep, posted today. Should help further divide an already divided community. Many there claim they are permanent residents as they go to NZ for the Winter and live at the lake for the Summer as their only Canadian residence, yet we're only considered "Seasonal" residents and we're there longer than many of them from Mother's Day Monday into mid October. No matter to me.. I don't need a launch to get to my camp and have three boats on shore! :D ....not that we plan to go up anyhow until this is done, other than me alone checking the place for security at some point..

Could you not social distance just as good there?

Im not exactly sure who you are saying wants to sensationalize it? Media? Maybe. So why isn’t the gov.com website saying .00014%? If anything, they absolutely want to minimize the impact  to protect their positions.

Yes the media is doing it to sensationalize.

    Why do you need a website.  45000 divided by 330,000,000 = .00014%.  I simply used a calculator.

  11. 11 minutes ago, grimsbylander said:

Huh? Are you saying the death toll is artificially inflated for ratings??? Seriously?? The numbers are on a US government website and I’m 100% positive the big kahuna there wants anything but Covid sensationalism.

I didn't say that at all.  I said raw numbers with no correlation to population are being used for ratings.

Especially now that NY is counting "suspected" corona deaths with no facts in the official count.

45,000 sounds much more sensational than .00014% of the population.

  12. 11 minutes ago, grimsbylander said:

Regardless of what the number is, it should still be the focal point of concern. IMHO there is no acceptable number regardless of what the total population is.
Covid 19 knows no borders. It’s the virus against humans. So the only percentage that really matters is the one that includes world totals. Hence the entire argument regarding social distancing...no one is in this alone and our actions influence others.

I don't disagree, by the same token raw numbers are thrown out for sensationalism and ratings.

If the actual fatality rate was used, it wouldn't be as sensational.

If leaders do too much OR too little they will be criticized. So we have to ask, which side of wrong should they risk being on?? I can’t see how taking time to carefully divide up States so some people can go fishing is a good use of resources. Considering people travel it’s also futile. I do find it interesting though that people seem more outraged over restrictions than concerned about the 45,000 dead people. I’m saying you are, but the rallies would indicate it.

Rather than looking at a raw number (45,000) I try to look at things in context.  There is approx. 330M population in the US.

I have found this to be the most agenda free actual facts site.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

It just gives you data and demographics, not a talking head interpretation of what is going on.

Can be opened up and should be opened up are significantly different. I have to question the logic when the top 1 & 2 US States with approximately 350,000 of the total US 802,000 Covid cases are increasing access to public contact. More than half of all Covid deaths in the US are in NY and NJ alone.

I’m no health expert but following the models used in countries and areas that have already worked seems like a sensible idea.

I commented because your statement contained so little info, other than they are opening access, I found it ambiguous and misleading. Personally I’m far from convinced it is a good decision. It’s becoming more about succumbing to public pressure than body count.

The flip side is that the fishing isn't very good in Manhattan.  The problem to me is the one size fits all.

I will admit that I have never been good with following "rules" that defy common sense.

Of course, this is an indicator of nothing.

I think in a way that it is with NYC being the epicenter in the US.  It does show that with common sense things can be opened up and the entire state is not a one size fits all.

Look at Michigan.  They have a problem with the Detroit area but impose the most draconian rules in the country on the entire state.  The UP ain't Detroit.

Sounds like a plan to me.  Name any business that collects funds for a product or service then denies access to what you have already paid for.
