  1. At the bass club meeting recently, Garmin/Daiwa was present and did a demo of the new Panoptix technology.

Once you see how that works ... you'll want to sell your kidney on the black market to buy one of these amazing units.  Attach it to the trolling motor and use it to scan not just down but in front of the boat ... in real-time instant feedback up to easily 100ft away ... pretty slick!  There are YouTube vid's demoing how these new units work.

Myself, I have a DI Humminbird G2N unit on my bow and a SI Humminbird G2N unit at the console.

Costco is your friend. Selling for $1.11. Across the street,  Ultramar $1.30. Barrie has been bouncing around like a pinball. Morning price, $1.30. Midday $1.21. WTH???????????

Actually, the best gas friend to have is the local native reserve.  Their prices cannot be beat anywhere.  And NO ... you don't need a native status card to use the regular pumps that are priced lower than anywhere else.  :)

  3. I went Saturday morning for 1.5hrs.  Its a great, small town show.  Some good deals to be had, but for the most part it was booths on information on local clubs and organizations, and demo of products such as ATV, Argo, Campers and some boats.  I picked up a couple small items at a good price and had a great talk with a fellow that custom makes rods (I learned quite a bit about the different type of guides and inserts that are available, how they differ and why the price varies so much).

    A few pics I took here ->

Since I am not from your area I have no idea what options you have, that link might be a place to get more ideas. A local fishing tackle store might also provide some info?

If you're new to it a club isn't a bad starting point, it can open up new waters and opportunities, they can also be a place to learn.

The Peterborough Bassmasters tournaments are for club members.  They have no entry fee and no winning $.  The evening tournies they run are rare and are for the club members to be social.  Their weekend tournies are more frequent and no $ to enter and no winning $. They are for gaining points for an end of year score and club party.  Their philosophy on the tournies are to be casual, social low pressure events.

The annual Rice Lake Open the Peterborough Bassmasters host is that ... a one day event and the club simply hosts it.  It is open to anyone.  http://peterboroughbassmasters.ca/rice-lake-open/

There are some groups that do casual evening tournies that anyone can join for a few $ and possible win a little $.  I don't know about Rice Lake but I do know about ones that run out of Bridgenorth (stopping in at Bridgenorth Sports and asking about these is a good start) as well as Mike Williams of Williams Outfitters runs casual weeknight tournies on different lakes.  He has a Facebook page you can join for announcements on when and where they are going to happen.  Here is his Facebook page -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/1132031450187547/   His dedicated website is -> http://williamsoutfitters.com/

Sounds similar to this Bitcoin thing. It is something my dear Lady is looking into, I don't like the idea. Actually I don't like any idea that can't be explained to me and my simple noggin within a few days, especially when it comes to MY money, her money too.

Not really.  Bitcoin is a currency, like USD and Yen and Euro.  It is just not recoginized by most governments and thus isn't controlled and regulated like a countries currency.

PayPal works just like online banking with our own 'legit' currency.  The problem is if something goes wrong with a transaction you can't just pickup the phone and call someone.  That is part of the risk with PayPal.  I'm a PayPal user and have a 'verified' account (means it is linked to my banking savings account ... so I can make a payment either from my credit card or my savings account).  And in reverse ... when I take money out of my PayPal account it goes to my savings account at my bank.    Other than the one time I had a problem and could not transfer money out of my PayPal account, it has been quite handy.  But when I had that one problem ... I just couldn't pickup the phone and call someone and get an answer.  I had to read lots of FAQ and HELP pages and read other peoples same problem before I finally found what I had to do (I had to 'reset' my account).

If I had thousands sitting in my PayPal account and could not transfer the money out and had no one to contact for help ... I'd be very upset.  From my experience ... I only use it for online shopping.  I have received small $ transfers to me ... but I keep them rare and small because of the problem I once had.

Or exchange via PayPal, it has a $10K limit on unverified accounts and a formal dispute process if anyone tries something fishy.

Going through PayPal is a very bad idea.

Just Google people having trouble with their PayPal accounts and not being able to withdraw money from their PayPal account and into their bank account due to an odd 'tech' problem and to learn just how ineffective their dispute service is.  This happened to me once.  I speak from experience.

PayPal isn't a brick and mortar business you can walk into and help get a problem resolved, unlike your local bank.

It's so sad that we have to share this planet with slobs like this and when whoever left that mess is caught I hope they nail him and all others like him with the harshest punishment available.

I live on a beautiful country road near Burleigh Falls that runs off hwy 28 and along Clear Lake and it's unbelievable how much garbage people throw here.

    Cnv0811.jpg

They come in off the hwy after dark when nobodies around and dump all the garbage they're too lazy or cheap to take to the local landfill / recycling site.

Just off the top of my head I recall piles of aluminum siding, tires, a surfboard, construction materials, bicycles, mattresses, regular garbage and all sorts of other crap. Last year someone ever discarded an 18' sailboat & trailer after they removed all identification.

It was posted here the other day about someone being fined $11,000 for keeping too many fish, maybe if those kinda fines were issued for tossing garbage everywhere it may cut back on some of it.

After dark, sit in the bush to the side of the road with a   DELETED

  8. Thanks for the input.

I pulled the front casting deck and small triangular bow piece off my boat last fall to recarpet.  It is a Lowe Fish & Ski 165.

When I pulled it all apart I saw that I needed to replace the wood as well.  It has started to flake and break apart.  It was 1/2 inch pressure treated plywood.

I watched a recent video on YouTube by a boat manufacturer (I think it was Princecraft) and the video was showing how pontoon boats are made.  The floor of the pontoon boat was pressure treated plywood.

I also stopped in at my local lumber yard and asked what wood guys buy when they come in for redoing their boats.  They said pressure treated is the most commonly purchased, but they do sell at 3x the price marine grade plywood.

From what I saw in that pontoon boat construction video and talking to the local lumber yard, I thought pressure treated was most commonly used.  It may not be the best, but is common.

Pretty good show.  Decent hourly fishing seminars. Picked up a Muskie  Rod at the clearance booth for $50. Rapala  R-Type. Original price $259. Said it’s a discontinued rod. Crazy mark up on rods it seems.  Almost pulled the trigger on a TerraNova electric motor. Gotta measure the boat for shaft length ( old power drive)   Good day  - ended with nice sovlaki dinner at Zets

LOL   We did the Zets trip after our visit to the Fishing show a few weeks back.  I think a lot of guys do that.  Zets is one of the best places for an excellent, cheap and HUGE meal.  Don't tell too many people because that place just can't get any busier!  ;)

  10. When I placed my order at the start of January, the site was up and running and looked great.  They were now offering boat wraps (I don't believe that was listed on their site a couple years ago when I first visited it).  And when I did a followup in February of my order, I exchanged a couple emails with a lady there and she confirmed my order was being processed ... just delayed because their provider was back ordered.

  11. Been waiting 10 weeks now for an order I placed on their website start of January.  Went to their website just now and see they've folded.   The Better Business Bureau has a surprising number of complaints against them.  If I had know that, I would not have placed my order. I was immediately charged for my order ($150) but nothing has been delivered. :(

I've reached out to my 'back-door' contact there (from when I did a lot of digging last month since they were not returning my inquiries through their customer service line) and I'm hoping this contact will get back to me and can refund my $150.

Too bad.  They were a family run business and had very cool clothing.

When they made the move to expand the business 4 years ago ->  https://www.muskokaregion.com/news-story/5179476-fishbum-makes-dwight-its-new-hq/

  12. No problem.

Here is a new webcam setup @ Burleigh Falls Inn.  It is right next to the popular Burleigh Falls rapids that is photographed above in this thread.

    http://www.benlo.com/cottagecam/Burleigh/

When looking at this end of the lake from this Webcam, on the immediate left is the locks to Lovesick.  On the immediate right is Burleigh Falls rapids.  What you can see is common in most of the lakes here now.  Open water in the areas of water movement ... and very thin ice in the areas of little to no water movement.

  13. I live on Buckhorn Lake, just a couple lakes up the Trent system from Burleigh.  Stoney and Clear are approx 30 min drive from my place.

No one is on the ice on the Trent Severn lakes.  Ice in most places is gone ... and in the places where it was thickest and had huts .... all are empty.  I drive by Chemong and Buckhorn every day to-and-from work and the huts I see all winter are gone and have been for approx 3 weeks.   It is possible there may still be the odd place that has ice but to get to it may be an issue.  I would advise against it.
