  1. Launched out of the Promenade to avoid the boat traffic from the GOSD fish-off.

Checked out the mature King action, watched the blast off and then headed out to the blue zone.

Kinda slow in the BZ this morning going 4/5 while dodging a treble from a spitting bow.

Here are a couple of pics of lethargic matures from in tight....

Here is a nice bow from the BZ.

Thanks for a good morning Rob!

  2. I'm with Slowpoke on all three fronts!

Don't bother with the jet divers - the Dipsies are the weapon of choice. The Torpedos are OK, but I prefer the Dipsies so have relegated the Torpedos to a tail gunner role.

The Heartland rods work well as do the Okuma dipsy rods, but the Heartlands are less expensive.

In terms of line, we run 50lb braid and 30lb wire for our dipsy set-ups for Kings on Okuma Catalina 30s.

The Catalinas are superior to the Convectors - the Tekotas are also very nice.

    Tightlines,

  3. IMHO, decide which is more important to you - handling the ice or pushing through the snow.

I have found the Blizzaks to be very good on the ice, but not as good in deeper snow.

I found the x-ice to be a little less effective on the ice, but better in the snow.

My last company car (A4) had Continentals on it and I was plesantly surprised how well they did with both ice and snow.

Either way you go, put them on as late as possible and yank them off as soon as possible.

  4. Was fishing the Fall King Lake of the Lake with Iceguy and a buddy, and caught my first laker.

Of course, we would have preferred a nice big king!

We had a good time, finishing in the top half of the event.

Here is Iceguy with a couple of our better fish today.

It was an exceptionally well organized and ran event!

  5. Haven't used that reel - so don't know the number of colours (my guess would be 5).

    Use a braid for backing.

If chasing Kings, I would use 50lb PP or Stealth for backing.

If Bows/walleyes, I would use 30 lb braid backing.

    :-)
