  1. Hey everyone,

I was looking at the overwhelming response to Anton and have been meaning to do this but I am usually only on here when I get a quick minute. So I am officially introducing myself.

My name is Mike and I am from Stoney Creek. I work in the residential construction sector (office) for probably the largest Homebuilder in Canada.

I mainly fish Georgian Bay from Port Severn to Bayfield, and hit the Kawartha's every once in a while. In the past few years I have really got into Musky and keep spending far too much on it every year. I fish smallies and walleye and do a lot of pike fishing just for fun. I release everything except the occasional walleye.

I will have pics up soon when I can get this network working at home.

I am on a few other boards but this one seems to be so active and everyone on here seems to be really really helpful and friendly so I am sticking to OFC as my primary for sure.

Its great to see everyone on here so active and I am happy to be a member now.

I will help out with any advice, knowledge I have which is mainly GBay.

Thanks and I will talk to you all soon.

    Mike

  2. Hey guys,

I am going to probably pick up a rod or 2 at the show this weekend and was wondering what everyone else uses.

I am strictly a St. Croix user right now but I am willing to try out others.

I have looked at the Musky Series GLoomis Rods but was not that impressed and have been pondering the Compres. I have played with them in the store, but havnt had the opportunity to give one a shot on the water. They are slightly heavier then the St. Croix's but I can handle that.

Would you guys recommend the Compre?

Also, I am in the market for a decent trolling reel and I like what I see in the Tokota's, feed back on trolling reels is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  3. Two favorites....

    The Musky Hunter

    Simply Fishing

I do like Al's show though also.

I have never caught "Fishing with Joe Boucher" I cant find when its on, even if its aired in this area.

They are all true to fishing. No gimmicks. Just fishing. With Tips and Pointers and Locations to look for. They explain, they dont sell.

Facts of fishing is quickly becoming a favorite as well, with his cast counter. But his subway bit kills me.

I would enjoy Extreme Angler a little more I think if they change the Voice over....OR change how he talks

    Strike.....................King

    Ranger....................Boats

I dont understand what the pause is for between every word. its frustrating. Humorous but frustrating.

I still like the show, but they need to fix that.

  4. Sturgeon Bay is great, but its 2.5-3 hours from Hamilton/Stoney Creek.

Its small (76 sites) and relatively quiet. I dont like recommending it, cus it seems to get busier by the year, but if you are wanting to take your family, its a great place. You dont have to worry about traffic in the park and its small so you cant get lost and nothing is far from your site.

Its about 20-25 mins past Parry Sound in Pointe Au Baril.

If you have a boat, GET A MAP. My parents used to own the Store/what used to be a resort across the road and we rented boats and had a lot of friends with boats come up. Even people that know the water still hit rocks that appear every year due to the decline in water levels.

Rule of thumb out in Sturgeon Bay....until you hit the Main Channel

If it looks like there is a rock, there is, if it looks like there isnt a rock, there probably is.

The water clarity from Big Island (have a look at a map) all the way to the park is very stained. Heavy weed growth is all over now, so just be careful. DO NOT CUT ANY CORNERS, stay wide on every one. I can take my boat from Midland to the French river and almost every inner channel but every year I see a rock that I didnt see last year.

I guess its the same all over GBay but this area in particular due to clarity is very very hard to navigate if you dont know where the rocks are. Its not like Severn Sound, the Moon River Delta or the Key so be aware. Sorry I know this is way off topic.

If anyone wants any info of the area, I will be glad to help out where to go.

There are loads of Pan fish for the kids here. Dont fish at the marina side, fish the beach side, you will have better luck. Or off the "Point" in the park, ask the staff they will tell you where it is.

    Have fun, and good luck.

  5. I couldn't agree with either of you more. The Musky Hunter is a fantastic show and the hosts are realistic. I have emailed Jim (and Steve) a few times and they are more then helpful. Great guys, great show. Same with Simply Fishing, another great show, although Bob seems to get a little to over anxious sometimes, but I still think its a great show.

  6. haha Okay I should have clarified. For what I was looking for, I didn't find much.

As for Deals, yes they have them, just unrelated to what my specs were.

I will look at the sportsman show, I want some Yamamoto's for $4 this year again.

LuckyCraft.....I am not going to start on this. haha

Okay I ADMIT, I was wrong. Next time I must SPECIFICALLY STATE what I was in the market for.

  7. Rob if no one gives you this, I have his card somewhere at home from last years show.

I think it was something like FS or something. If not just go to the Canadian Hydrographic Services site and you can order it there. You will just have to do some searching as the site is not user friendly.

I will check when I am home tonight to see if i can find the card.

  8. Well I wasnt complaining about how dead it was, that was the only positive part of it. I was complaining about the deals. it was amazing to be there with no one in the building. almost like going to the Auburn NY Bass Pro.

I just didnt find any deals at all. sure $1 off here or $3 off there, but nothing really spectacular. As for the C4's, if it lasts me 3 seasons at $64 bucks i am okay with that. its just a back up reel that wont be used often. I have a Curado and 2 Calcutta's that are my go-to's and an Abu UC that just wont die. I am thinking about picking up the Diawa made St. Croix's (AC300) if i can find it at a decent price. Never tried them, but I have heard some positive things about them.

Anyone have any info on the St. Croix reels? Has anyone used them? How do they fair?

It was funny too, being there, there couldnt have been more then 50 people in the store and I saw 9 other people from the Hamilton area.

What a fun drive in that weather.

    Mike
