  1. Try Christies Mill Inn and Spa. Its up in Port Severn, small, yet nice. We got married there, had about 80 people only as even Christies gets pricey after a few people are added. We had a great experience with them though, and the food was incredible.

  2. Wasn't making fun of you....just seems their gas prices are always way higher than any of the towns north or so of them.

Had a good chilli there last year...speaking of "gassy", lol!!

Its very true. If you are heading up from the south, gas up in Nobel. If you are coming down from the north, you can get gas cheaper in Britt somehow, before that the Key or French.

Payne's isn't that much more expensive then Wings and they are on the Water. They have always been more expensive, and it didnt help when Larry bought the place.

  3. ah....beauty is in the eye of the beholder

if you fish an area where a 40" fish is a monster

who am I to burst his bubble...

if it's a monster to the guy posting great

if it's a small fish to you well good for you , pointing it out seems like an arrogance to me..but that's just me

You pulled the words right out of my mouth Terry. Well said.

If it's a monster to the guy who catches the fish, let him feel as good as he does. If you don't think its a monster, pass by the topic and move on.

We have to remember that no everyone has the opportunity to fish certain bodies of water where others are more privileged. Not everyone gets to fish x amount of hours.

I don't know why this would bother anyone. There are far better things on the winternet to complain about

  4. I think I had the most fun reading this post Drew. Every time I read one of your contributions, its like you are right there with you. You are truly talented in that way. Now I sit here in Perth, working in Ottawa, picturing where you were on Sommerset.

Just like everyone else thinks, I do too, you deserve to be writing in a magazine where more people can experience what you have to offer.

Thank you once again for an incredible journey.

  5. Splash and Bryan are right. Liens are possible.

The issue is you are leaning the Owner of the property and not the guy that owes you the money. 99% of the time the hired trade is paid by the owner, yet the subs do not get paid.

Framers are very very susceptible to this unfortunately. I know of at least 30 crews that have got screwed by the owner of the framing company after he was paid by the owner of the property.

I work for one of the "property owners", luckily our trades get paid 99% of the time.

This happens all the time in the GTA and Ottawa.

Good luck, if its not a big amount that he owes you, cut your losses and spread the word. If its a lot, look at the lien route (as long as you are not in Ottawa and liening our company hahaha)

  6. I can't seem to find them anywhere, am I just missing them? I am looking for the white/cream color ones. Last time I bought them was in Orilla right before the swing bridge, I cant remember the shop name.

Can anyone help me out? Does JB's carry them? Anyone in the Ottawa region?

  7. Like Wayne, I also attach my Knipex to the boat 'cept I use a long coiled telephone cord. It coils up to nothing when not being used but can reach anywhere in the boat when needed. You can see them on the floor beside the drivers seat.

Those cutters are too darned expensive to drop in the drink.

And FWIW, when trolling with rods in the holders, I also attach them to the boat with 4' wire cable incase they come outta the holders, which I have seen happen under the strain of huge baits.

Lew, where are you hooked on to on your Tekota?

  8. And they work SOOO well. We had a guy (cabnet maker) working on some things at my folks place and his dog hook himself right through the nose tip with a hook in his truck. My dad went and got my knipix and the dog was fre is seconds, no yalping, no blood and the owner was VERY impressed. even more so with the price. these are reg. $100 in most musky shops or more.

What model do they have at Lowes?

  9. Lots of saltwater fishermen target saltwater fish in the 20 to 50 lb class with appropiate sized spinning gear and muskie are no match for a saltwater species pound for pound. Don't see any reason why it can't be done.

Saltwater fish are much more resilient then Musky as well. The water will still be relatively warm in September which doesn't help. Don't compare 2 completely different scenarios.

You dont bring a knife to a gun fight...

  10. Just want to again say thanks for everyone's input. I think we have made our decision and are going for much longer then I want to. 6 nights, 7 days. Mind you, we are going for a weeding so 3 or 4 of those days are completely occupied already. This will give me and the wife some time to go explore things like the dam and the canyon as well as take in "O" one night.

Somehow it is cheaper for us to go for 7 days then it is for us to go 5. Its actually $70 cheaper to go for longer per person.

I think we are going to stay at Tropicana, it seems to be the best price/location. Plus we have a few friends already booked at the Tropicana and we are going the week of the larges Dental convention in North America (55,000 dental professionals will be there so all the prices are jacked for our week)

Again, thanks to all, all your input is valuable and appreciated.

  11. So I have to go to Vegas in October. I have never been, neither has the wife. Where would you stay? Where have you had bad experiences?

I have specifically left out Bellagio, Wynn and Manadalay as they are all very expensive the week we are going down. I am trying to do this as cost effective as possible.

    Thanks

    Mike

  12. This is going back about 6 years. He showed me the pics. He caught 26 in 12 hours of fishing.

I went with him 2 years ago and he pulled in 3 in 4 hours of fishing but I got skunked.

However, was also there last weekend for 3 hours and got none but pulled in a 2.4 largie and 24" pike between the two of us. So I guess this year what you say is true. Didn't know it was a trend this year.

He must be the most successful Musky fisherman ever, especially in Severn Sound. He is a god apparently.

Wayne, if you find this guy, I will be following you, I know what your boat looks like.

    Bill had it right...

Now to help the OP. If its only your second trip out for Musky stick to the Kawarthas. Stay out of Gbay until you build some confindence, or it will eat you up and spit you out. Pigeon is a fun lake to fish, this time of year the north end is very active, you shouldnt have a problem boating any, search around this form, other guys have stated where to start. < Very poor sentence structure haha.

If not, try Upper Buckhorn. Lovesick is too small, and I find if you do go to Stoney, fish where you think Bass and Walleye will be and you are into Musky.

    Good luck!!!!
