  1. I was reading with great interest the other post about methods of launching your boat but most everyone there talks about bunk trailers. What about roller trailers as I have one of those now.

I mastered the exercise with the bunks on my old boat but have never tried roller trailer so any and all advice is welcomed as the new season is getting close.

I am thinking of adding the Fulton 44" side roller guides onto the trailer to help me out and prevent hitting the boat into the inside of the trailer fenders.

Would be great to read some of your personal experience in a step by step process similar to the other post with the bunks. Maybe even some pictures :Gonefishing::thumbsup_anim:

  2. Hey Bud,

I've install that same swing away tongue with no problems on the installation part. The only thing with me I was missing few bolts/nuts and called for them to send me extra. Very good service, got them from the US in few days and completed the project shortly after. Cutting was easy, drilling holes as well. Not sure why you have problems with yours...I was holding the inside bolts with ratchet socket and tighting from the outside with regular wrench. No issues there....I've drove the trailer with the boat on few times already and haven't noticed any issues with sagging. I was careful not to cut/drill into any of the existing wires as I've re-used all the old existing wires.

Maybe the guy forgot installing the extra support plates inside. They are quite thick and with those one should not be any sagging.

Anyhow...I'll see how mine performs in the new season but so far so good.

I am not far from you, so if you want to come and see mine you are welcome to, just PM me.

    Cheers,

    Emil

  3. I too got pair of new Mag 10 HS recently and just mounted them on my Lund yesterday. Boy do they look nice.....pictures to come shorlty when finish all installations....

I've been using 10 Lbs so far but am planning to switch to 12 Lbs for the new season to minimize the drag.

By the way Mag 10'S are rated for up to 20 Lbs. so plenty of room to move up.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  4. I just bought pair of Cannon MAG 10 HS and got them at a killer deal.

They'll be going on a Lund Pro Sport 1700 as soon as this weather gets warmer.

With 250 feet per minute retrieval speed, Positive Ion and much more advanced then most of the competition and after extensive research I've decided to go with them vs. Scotty, Big Jon or Walker.

You can read more about them here:

    http://www.cannondownriggers.com/products/....asp?pg=mag10hs

I've fished for few years with manuals but decided it's time to get nicer boat and install electric riggers on it.

If you decide to go for Cannon let me know and I can help you get very good deal on them.

  5. Hey Shelly,

that big laker look great in your hands :clapping:

Saturday sure was a strange fishing day....I kept getting mostly lakers and you kept getting mostly whities :Gonefishing:

Oh well, it was GREAT time together and we'll do it again soon from the boat :thumbsup_anim:

Thanks again for the good time together and the pictures, especially the last one ha ha ha :clapping::thumbsup_anim:

  6. Here is my report from yesterday from Lake Simcoe.

Took a friend of mine with me who has never caught larger fish before (don't count the perch ;-)

After looooooong ride on the ice following Big Chevy and Lady Walleye we've arrived into a small compound that grew 10 times in size over the next few hours. :whistling:

Fishing started with a slow first hour, then slowly picking up to get to a furry betwwen 9-10am.

Jigging spoons was the name of the game...tried Meegs as well as I normally catch a lot of fish on them but no such luck yesterday. Got couple on minnow line as well. One large trout tried to take my rod/reel on the minnow line down the hole. :thumbsup_anim:

Done with full limit on lakers and whities and left about 2pm....largest laker was 9 Lbs. The other laker 5 Lbs and the large whitie about the same. Thanks for the great company to Big Chevy and Lady Walleye, Tybo and Joey, Terry and Sly. It sure was a great day for us on the ice.

This may have been my last ice fishing day for the very short season but will invest my time and more money into finishing all the additions to my boat so it's ready for some serious fishing in the spring/summer.

here are few pictures of some happy fisherman.

    Enjoy! :thumbsup_anim::Gonefishing::clapping:

Full limit for two for the day:

    Benny,

I live west of GTA but up North, your way is my anual trip every summer.

Have done it last two summers, no reason to miss it this summer.

Temmagami, North Bay and Algonquin - got lots of fish with my old boat and sure hope my new one follows the lead :thumbsup_anim:

Should be coming your way late July or first part of August, so PM me some contacts and I'd love to do side by side fishing with you Bud.

By the same talking....any time you come down to the big Smoke let me know and we'll check and see how the Salmon is doing in Lake O. :Gonefishing:

  8. Emil,If you ate looking to get a new anchor.

Go with a Richie one. I had one now for five years.

It's so versatile that I got rid of my other three.

    Thanks Bud.

Do you have a link to see what they look like/cost?

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  9. Come'on Emil... Uni to Uni note of course ! LOL

Well that's one way to do it :clapping:

But at the boat show a guy told me there is a way to splice pieces together if they are all new....not sure how to do that though...

P.S. Hey Wayne, you should see the pair of brand spanking new MAG 10 HS I got yesterday from the show in London ;-)))) Got the deal of the century on them too ;-) They look great on my table and I am sure will look even better on my boat when mounted ;-))....right Brian ;-?)) :thumbsup_anim::Gonefishing::stretcher:

  10. Here's a thought.... give me the anchormate... lol

    Okay, consider this...

    Anchormate with 150'

Danforth anchor with 3x100ft and you can tie on 100ft at a time when needed. That way it's easier to store the rope and you'll have plenty when needed.

This will allow you to anchor front and rear when conditions allow for it...

Anchor from rear with Danforth, use bow mount trolling motor for positioning (calm days)

Anchor from front with Anchoremate or Danforth (rough days)

Let me make sure I get this Brian...

You want me to replace the existing rope on the Anchormate with new one 150' long?

And then you want me to buy new Danforth Anchor AND 3 x 100' rope for it?

How would I tie the 3 pieces together when needed?

In this case I may only need 150-200' total rope because I can put chain at the end of it since it'll not be going through any pullies.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  11. I thought you were going to give the Anchormate to me! hehehe

    By the way, wrong link.

Opsss thanks Brian, corrected the link.

Too many links I'm working on ha ha

Don't know about the Anchormate yet, but might need to replace (or get a second) anchor as I don't think the mashroom I have, will hold my boat well.

I may end up getting a new anchor attached to the new rope and hide it somewhere on the boat and use it only when in deep water.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  12. Thanks guys.

Anywhere in west GTA would be local to me, including Hamilton.

My CT has some but not a lot of variety in diameters and lengths....never seen something like that in Home Depot...but have to check...I've checked the West Marine in Oakville as it is closest to me but they sell it much more expensive - about $80-$90 or so I think

I am fine paying for it about $50 or so....getting one from the US will cost me about $60 by the time it comes here...

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  13. I need to replace my anchor line with much longer one.

I was looking at the Bass Pro web site and this line seem to be close to what I need:

    http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...0003000_200-3-3

I'd like to get the 3/8" of 200' length but Vaughan Mills Bass Pro store doesn't sell it. They only have the 150'.

Since I can not use chain as I did on my last boat I thought I better have longer rope so it can hold the boat in windy conditions in say 100' of water on lake Simcoe.

My new boat came with an Anchormate mechanism on the bow that will preven me from running chain (chain can not go through the pullies there).

So I'd like to know if I can buy similar line in the 3/8" x 200' somewhere locally for about the same price - $40-$50 ?

This way I can avoid having to order from Bass Pro in the US and pay shipping for it.

    Ice Fisherman

  14. lew,

I was wondering should I go to this show or to the one in London next weekend.

Based on what you've said I'd probably do the London one as I've already seen all the boats one could see at the boat show last month.

I am looking for few things for my fishing boat...not another boat;-)

Life jackets/safety gear/anchor rope 200' of 3/8"/water proof flash light/compass/ jumper cables/ Cannon MAG 10 HS....is some of the stuff I need....if you haven't seen any good deals on those I might be better heading to London next weekend.

  15. Well Wayne is mostly right ...the quote was to install the kicker, to connect it to the fuel line and install the filter and steering bar. I told them I can do the battery cable wiring myself if they sell me 10-15 feet of battery cable....

So for this he quoted me $100 +parts originally.....today the price went 5 times higher...

I guess this is a book example of bait and sitch tactics....come to the shop and bam the price goes up 500%...Oh well he'll never see any business from me in the future...that's guaranteed.

The guy tod me his rate is $85/hr...this makes 6 hours....waooooooo.....I am sorry but if I was doing this and had the experience and tools it will NEVER EVER take me 6 hours....2 hours at the most if he knows what he is doing...and he should....

Realistic price should be arround $200 for this work I think......Proctors have quoted me $200 but I went to this guy since it was closer then Proctors....

  16. I can clump it but I want to bolt it to be safer.

And I don't feel comfortable drilling into the transom myself therefore I was looking for someone who knows what they are doing to do it for me.

No need for kicker motor bracket, mounting the kicker directly to the transom.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  17. I guess it is my turn to rant.

Went to a boat dealer I spoke with on the boat show and he has promised to install my kicker motor for about $100 or so + parts.

Made an appointment yesterday got their first thing this morning...he looked at the boat/motor....walked around for 5 min and told me $500...at which point I almost had a heart attack...some of those bandits must think I pick up my money from the threes. :wallbash::wallbash:

Needless to say I told him to go the hell...hooked back my boat and left....this exercise cost me 1/2 day wasted and lots of gas I could have used better going fishing in the spring...

So I am hoping someone can refer me to a decent/hones dealer in the West GTA/Oakville/Burlington/Milton area who can do quality work on installing my new kicker motor. I need it bolted to the transom but don't feel like doing it myself. Once installed I'd like them to connect the two motors with steering bar and do the fuel lines via a fuel filter/water separator.

I have my own steering bar, fuel filter/water separator, fittings, etc. The only thing I may need is the labor and some fuel line and extra battery cable to extend the cable that comes with the kicker to the front battery located under the left console.

  18. More info on this subject....just got home after stopping at a Shell gas station on Hwy 401 and Trafalgar Rd. - the GOOD news is they don't sell ANY gas that has ethanol....so 87, 89, 91 ALL are ethanol FREE!!!

Super news to me as this gas station often is on my way to the fishing spots on lake Erie and Lake O. so I'll start filling up there all the time. Manager was there and said no plans to go on ethanol any time soon. This makes me thing marines must have access to same ethanol free gas as well.

News number 2 for the day:

Spoke to a good marine today in Oakville....the chief mechanic told me no problems with water separator/fuel filter from Racor and my two motors. But he said there is a trick to it to ensure problem free flow of fuel to either motor.

    The order is like this:

    Fuel tank.....fuel hose.....primer ball.....fuel filter/water separator.....either motor....

In other words....the primer ball MUST be BEFORE the water separator...this way squizing the ball few times fills up the fuel filter with gas and starting the motors and running them after that is no problem at all. He sais he has installed many such filters and had never had problems with starving the motor. He was actually trying to sell me a Mec filter for about $50...but I went and bought the Racor today...also got spare replacement element....so should be all set now....the Racor filter and the ethanol free Shell gas should resolve this issue once and for ever.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman
