  1. Thank you Roy. I appreciate your help. I'm new here and not sure what kind of sense of humor the community has. Considering we're all fishermen, I guess I don't have to worry about anyone being too uptight. Those of us that have tapped the source can't be bothered to fuss over the little things, am I right?
  2. I'm happy with Bonghitts to be honest, but I don't want to be a bad role model to "the kids" or anything. Do you think a name change is prudent, Roy?
  3. What do you folks prefer for tip-ups set for pike this time of year? I hear they really do love dead smelt, but considering you can't really jig a tip-up, I've always tended to think the kick and wiggle of a live shiner is better. Am I wrong?
  4. OntCarp is the King! Are you retired? Do you own a house on the water? How do you do it, man? My wife lets me fish as much as I want...we have no kids yet, but having to show up at work 5 days a week really gets in the way of wetting a line. As far as my handle goes...when I chose it I didn't realize this was a "family" oriented site. Am I going to get in trouble? I tried, but I can't figure out how to change it.
  5. About how many days a year do you guys fish? I have a little calendar in my lunchbox where I write down the overtime I work. This year I started to also mark down each day I that I fish. I'm at 14 as of today, it'll be 16 by Sunday. I think it's possible I will exceed 100. I remember reading in In-Fisherman that Al Lindner fished about 230 days a year, if any of you folks are anywhere near big Al, I take my hat off to you.
  6. That's a good point. Whenever I have the opportunity to fish I do, so even if I knew the fishing was going to be poor, I'd still head out. And, if I was stuck at work and knew the fishing was great, I'd still be stuck at work.
  7. When I was considering buying my Kawi 750cc Brute Force, I called my insurance company to see how much the coverage would cost. They quoted me about $500 a year, so I bought the thing and took out the policy. A month later they sent me a registered letter saying they decided not to cover any bikes that big, and that my coverage was going to end in about 5 days. I had to scramble, but I managed to find a different company to cover me. I switched my Jeep and wife's car over too while I was at it. Insurance companies (along with the banks and oil giants) are bloodsucking snakes who are destroying this country a dollar at a time. I think Pinch is right though. I heard motor vehicle insurance, aside from snowmobiles, is negated as soon as you drive on the ice.
  8. Who can tell me (or tell me where to go to find out) a little bit about barometric pressure, and how it relates to fish activity? Are there some general rules?...I seem to remember someone telling me fishing is best when the pressure is high but falling. Is that true and are there other guidelines that are useful to know?
  9. I don't find the expression "Jesus Christ" (when used outside of a religious context as an explicative) offensive. Sometimes I forget that others do. I probably should be more careful, but when I say it, I don't mean to demean a religious figure or purposely commit an act of sacrilege, it's just part of my vernacular. I suppose because I don't particularly adhere to the teachings of Christianity, they're just words to me. Racist comment do really bother me though. I have to admit I do sometimes call my buddies "homos". Also, if there are kids around, it's reasonable to expect a certain level of restraint.
