I still have some reels with mono when I need a break from the god awful noise from braid!!

 

I'd still recommend you go with 10lb Power Pro though. The only reason not to is if you don't want to bother using a mono or fluorocarbon leader; and don't want to purchase some serrated scissors. You only need to change it every few seasons IMO, so the cost is actually similar or cheaper than mono which should be changed each season.

 

If you can't stand the noise or don't feel good about dropping $20+ on a spool, I'd recommend Trilene XT, Maxima Ultragreen, Gamma Copolymer or P-Line Floroclear in 6 or 8lb test.

Methyl Hydrate = Methanol

Denatured Alcohol = Ethanol + Methanol (added so you can't drink it). It also goes by the name Methylated Spirits.

Rubbing Alcohol = Isopropanol + Water [and possibly some ethanol]

 

 

Using rubbing alcohol may be OK, but since it has water it might not work as well. I only know the chemistry, I don't know anything about what you want to use it for.

Sparrow, Dalrymple and Canal Lake are about 1 hour from you. Never fished them but I believe they hold walleye. Lots of lakes <2 hour drive.

I have not been able to find anywhere that says the Trak Marine maps will work on Lowrance products. They are compatible with Garmin though. I hope this helps you out.

 

The link in my previous reply is to the TrakMap Marine v8 for Lowrance. Make sure it's compatible with your exact unit though.

A friend rennted a place on Oak lake north of Havelock. The lake is only about 1.5 miles square and they found fish easily. Sorry I do not know the name of the cottages he rented from but you could google the lake and see what shows up.

Trakmapsmakes a marine map set for Lowrance (and Garmin). I have an older version of it for my Garmin handheld because it contained lakes I didn't have. Not going to say it's better though because that depends on the specific map.

I thought I read there were problems with those Veritas rods breaking??? Was I misinformed? I agree with Kickingfrog on this as well, but I guess it depends on what the OP intends to use it for.

Had that place on my radar for a little while. I seem to recall it's a "new" place? Funny thing, I have their business card on my desk for some reason. I know something about it interested me. Unfortunately, I have not been there.

 

Ultimately I think a longer drive is always better.

1) Used from the OFC classifieds or eBay. Plenty of musky gear for sale all the time.

2) New, try some of the local guys like Handlebarz or Bondy Baits. Probably a bunch of others.

3) Make some of your own. You can make plenty of effective jigs and inline spinners. Can get parts from places like Luremaking.com.

I bought a metal portable transducer bracket for mine and it's terrible. There might be better models out there, but I wouldn't waste your money on one and stick with a 1X2 or a hockey stick and a C-clamp.

If it's the one near Norland, Adventure Fishing Maps has one. Although, as mentioned, they aren't the best but better than nothing. I was told the lake is full of rocks too, so be vigilant.

 

There is also one in the Backroads Mapbook. It was in the Kawartha edition which is discontinued, but they I believe they combined all the Kawartha lake maps into on of the other fishing mapbooks.

For me, I normally just let out plenty of line - like 125ft+. I use 6-8lb mono equivalent diameter line. For me, that gets most lures down to where they need to be within 10%. I prefer three-way setups if I want to get down deep. Cheap and easy.

Is it a Luhr Jensen size 0? If so, it goes to 35 feet according to the website.

Lots of great advice here! The one thing I don't necessarily agree with is the low glare on the plasma. I own a plasma and there is a lot of reflection. That being said, from my understanding the newer models use a much better non-reflecting glass. So, it's more than likely you saw those ones in the airport. Just something to keep in mind.

 

Also, not sure if this was mentioned or still even holds true, but Samsung uses panels from three different manufacturers. Some claim one is better than the other. You can [or used to be able to] determine the origin based on a code written on the box.

You can use all sorts of spoons, spinners and minnow baits.

 

I currently use a three-way rig with a MH rod and braided line. I don't own any leadcore/steel or line counter reel type setups since I don't regularly fish for lakers in the summer. So I use the three-way setup and it works.

 

 

So, if I were putting together a "kit", I would definitely have:

 

Sutton (Savant) Silver Spoons in sizes 44 and 72;

 

Lucky Strike Half Wave Spoon in Nickel;

 

Rapala floating/jointed minnows in size F-9/F-11 in black/silver and/or blue/silver;

.

 

I also have some X-Zone Swammers in pearl that are popular, but I haven't had much opportunity to try them much.

 

 

and as already mentioned some Williams Wablers and white tubes.

I put a bunch of hotspots on the Angler's Atlas map. Someone just put a short report up on Walleye Central as well. Could as the OP - fishincrazy.

 

IIRC the bay west Red Pine was a good night spot.
