    Nice fish

We use to fish across the other side at the old factory. Crazy number of browns back then. That was in the late 70,s early 80,s.

Thanks.  Have you gotten to fish it the last few years?

Droooool!!!  Love big browns. And that, was, a, big, brown!  Nicely done.

Thanks.  My buddy managed to get a bigger one on our next outing.  I can't believe how big they get.

Fatty.  I remember fishing all the way up to the dam as a kid.  On the other side by the 3 falls and that center section sticking out in the middle, lol.   Hooking a chinook and having it spoil you was a common occurrence.

All the way to the dam?  That's crazy.

Ah, interesting story there.  This one wrapped herself up pretty well. We had brought the other line in and it was sitting on the surface. As we are trying to unhook this one, a smaller musky smashes the floating bait and starts wrapping itself in that line! So we put the big girl in the water to breathe while we undo the little one - which took a heck of a lot longer than we thought.Anyway, by the time the big girl was unbuttoned, she was pretty stressed, as you can tell from the colours. Not wanting to stress her any more, it was a quick snap, back in the water to recover and let loose. So I never did get a measure, not that it matters really. We figure mid forties. I figure I simply need to get a 50 for my next pb :) My one and only prior fish was 34, so I am pretty confident we got that beat.....

Congrats on the PB and cool story

been following your trip on FB and the grams

man the colour on some of those brookies is next level.

Gotta love the easy fishing where you get bored of catching so many walleye. Thanks for posting

I tried to update everyday while I was there but I would get random reception.  I found I'd get best reception while I'm on a boat in the middle of the lake.

Brookies are beautiful fish and they taste good too.

Great job! Some stellar trout fishing around there, would love to spend a week up there.

I wish I did more trout fishing

Agreed #metoo.  Gord Ellis wrote a good article about the brookie fishing in some of the small lakes in that area a few years ago.  It's been stuck in my head ever since.

I'll have to search for that article.  I wish the brookies in the rivers were open.

  4. We left Toronto Friday night just after 9pm and 12 hours later we reached our destination of Lower Twin Lakes Lodge, Nakina.

    Day 1: Walleye

Lots of fish caught in the 15"-19" range.  We got our 4 man limit.  Fish fry tor lunch.

Day 2: More walleye and a whitefish

We tried trolling for pike but no takers so we went back for some more walleye.  I also caught my first whitefish of the trip.

    Day 3: Brookies

Today we woke up to frost and fog.  Our goal today was to get into some brook trout at a local stocked pond.  We only got into a few but I caught my first brookie.

    Day 4: More Brookies

Today we went out again for more brookies with the owner John and he guided us.  It was a huge difference between yesterday and today.  I must've caught over 20+ brookies, all on lures, spinners and spoons.  I wish I took pics of the bigger ones but it was hard to stop to take a pic when the fishing was hot.

Day 5: Exploring near by lakes

Today was calling for rain so we decided to go exploring.  We drove around side roads to look for bush chickens but they were scarce.  Google maps lead us to a small lake with some shore line access.  My goal for this lake was to cover water and look for my first pike.  Fish on my second cast, it started to peel drag and I could feel the head shakes.  When I got it closer, I can see it was a laker.  My buddy also caught a whitefish after.

    Day 5-7

Was pretty much all same and I barely took any pictures.  Here's what I managed..

I wish I could've explored all the surrounding lakes but time felt like it was going by fast.  I'm hoping I can make this trip again next year.

Lower Twin Lakes Lodge made us feel at home and I would recommend this place to anyone.

You should do good, lower and upper twin are hit hard but are very prolific fisheries. Since the lower limits and slot size were introduced the lakes came back. Wababimiga is relatively untapped mostly because of poor access and a lack of walleye but the pike fishing is great. Check out fish on line or ganrac for stocking info on lakes like Robertson, you can kinda  gauge the sizes by the years stocked 3-4 years being prime. 16-20" trout in the rivers around there are not that common but I would think 16 would be easy on some of those stocked lakes.

We spent the night at Lower Twin Lakes then flew out the next morning to Kayedon/ Ogoki. We did catch plenty of walleye during the week up there.

Twin Lakes should be good but I think one of the main attractions of the lodge is the plenty of good back lakes in the area. Talk to the owner, Mike. If it was me, I'd be spending a lot of my time on Wababimiga.

If you've got specific questions, Jmeyer knows the area like the back of his hand.

    Thanks guys!

go nuts, those are the stocked, open year round lakes, the naturals in the Drowning and the other nearby rivers are unfortunately closed

I would love to catch a natural brook trout, I hear they get a lot bigger then the stock ones.

I think the owner Mike has some boats cached on Wababimiga. If it was me, I'd spent at least a couple days there looking for monster pikes.

Any reports from Wababimiga?  I searched on here and online and I didn't see anything show up.

I'll have to ask John when I get up there.

I was up there with Chris a couple weeks ago.  I did take a few casts but the area around the docks is super shallow.  I think you're in for a good trip.  I've heard good things about the stocked lakes in that area.  I fish a lot of lake O pike as well and one of the things I learned fishing up there for the first time is that while big jerk baits work well - they are a pain in the butt if the snot rockets are active.  They tend to make a mess of the hooks and themselves.  Catch four or five in a row and it gets tired pretty quick.  Big spoons with a single siwash hook have since taken over about half of the jerk bait box.  Good luck.  Looking forward to some nice pics and vids.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I'll have to put a box of single hooked lures together for the purpose of unhooking snot rockets with ease.

Did you guys get into any walleye?

As for pics and vids, I got 2 waterwolf cams and 2 gofish cams that are ready to take some sweet underwater footage.

    I can't wait
