  1. Another way to make your worm harness stay off the bottom is to slip a piece of styrofoam on the line. One of those small pieces of styrofoam that is often used in packaging. However the best ones to use are the ones sold for worm harnesses or those spinning type styrofoams like in one of the above photos.

Was at Bass Pro last weekend, they also sell floating worm harnesses now. I knew I should of got a couple :wallbash:

  2. Glad you had a good experience with it. Can't go wrong for the 160$ it costs, not to mention superb Costco customer service if you did have to return it. Did it rain at all during your trip? If so, did it leak?

Yup that's the one I bought. There is a flap at the base of the tent that opens up about 6" from the ground. It's a great tent and nope we didn't wake up wet. A little stuffy but that's because my wife "insisted" that the windows be closed lol. I wasn't gonna argue on her first camping trip

  3. Thanks, appreciate the very generous offer, see PM.

My tent was in stock where I work (Gagnon's) this spring so brought it home then. Yes the site has high prices but I assure you the retail will be much lower if we ordered you one. Pick out a model and send a PM, I'll look up our cost and will give you a estimate on price next week. We stock some tent's but have some of "so so" tents left from the tent sale, special order any time your ready, if Johnson ourdoors has it in stock it would take no less than 2 weeks.

  4. I just bought a nice Coleman 8 person tent at Costco. Kept us warm during the May 24 weekend

Did you buy it this year by any chance? The grey and orange one they have on display (think its called Summer Dome)? If thats the one I was skeptical about it because it doesn't look like there is any ventilation as the fly goes to the ground? If that's the one, did you wake up damp from condensation?

  5. During school I worked at a restaurant for many years and I have yet to see a knife sharper than when you use the back of a ceramic plate. The restaurant owner would send the knives off to get "professionally sharpened" by Nella, but they were not as sharp as I was able to get them with the back of a ceramic plate. If you got an old ceramic dish laying around, give it a shot and see for yourself.

  6. I can also add the chrous of happy eureka tent owners. best set of advice outside of brand is that for a tent to be good and waterproof it actually needs a proper fly that cover the whole tent and make sure the rains drains off of it.

Alot of the tents at canadian tire only have fly's that come down half way so your walls get wet and so do you.

I hear what your saying. My train of thought is that if the fly covers all the way to the ground, then there is much less ventilation and air circulation. You would wake up soaked from lack of ventilation and or scorch during a rain storm or hot summer day.

  7. I am looking at purchasing a new tent to accomodate 4 people, which would be a 8-10 person tent. It would be used primarily in the summer and not on backpacking trips. Anybody have any recommendations for a good durable tent that will keep me dry?

I have looked at the Coleman Instant Tent, but the reviews just don't seem consistent enough as alot of them leak and their customer service has gone downhill. Anybody have any experience with this line of tent?

  8. Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

My friends father who taught me alot about pickerel fishing always told me to kill the fish right away if its a keeper and if you don't have a livewell. Makes sense, if you know its going to die, may as well put it out of its mysery right away.

Looks like your lab is just like mine, looking and waiting for any opportunity to jump out of the boat.

  9. Just ask the municipality to write you an email response saying that "it's an hour away" "we are being lenient" "we have no access". Take that email and walk into the Sudbury/North Bay MOE office. The MOE will be happy to help out I'm sure. If the municipality won't write you an email, tell them you have documented everything they have said... this will all light a fire under their butts.

    Damn your good :clapping:

  10. I would be weiry about warranty going from 3 year to 1 year. Tells alot about how well they stand behind their product. I use 1 Interstate deep cycle to start the outboard and run trolling motor and fishfinder and am going on my 5th year with no issues. When I check the water levels, they never budge. Prompt charging after use goes a long way. I use a CTEK charger from CT. They go on sale periodically for about 40-50$.

  11. I hear ya Jason. I guess it does really come down to personal preference. An experienced hunter and in my opinion especially a duck hunter who is accustomed to shooting fast moving targets would have less difficulty putting a shot in the vitals. However, duck hunting for pleasure and table fair is alot different than shooting at a bear knowing your life is at risk in seconds. If you follow recommended bear encounter techniques you should be standing your ground anyway if the bear is coming towards you. When I read the bear spray cans it said that the deterrant can spray approx 15-20', but your right with a wind that is botched. I would imagine that the bear would suffer for longer than a few minutes. I would think that they would not return to that same area as they encountered a negative experience there. Regardless, I would hope anybody with a brain would get out of there in a heart beat unless they have reserve bear spray.

I read something a little while back where it stated that if you did shoot the bear and were unsuccessful in killing it, they would become even more agressive during the attack as you have aggrivated the bear even more. I talked to a guy who said he shot a charging bear in the shoulder, it fell down from the impact and jumped back up on its feet and began charging even more aggressively, which prooves what I just said.

  12. I'm not a hunter myself, but even if I was my opinion is that I am safer with bear spray than a shot gun. Your odds of missing with bear spray is less likely. Your chances of missing and or getting a shot at the bears vitals is very difficult when a bear is charging full speed at you.
