As far as I know Rich there is no stocking of specks in streams going on in southern ontario.
Maybe not publicized, but its happening. More so happening with ponds and the like connected to streams. Detrimental to native populations for sure.

Thats a nice brookie man!!!

Carp don't guard nests like bass do. They spawn quick and dirty in weeds and leave. They also don't have much of an urge to feed anyway while they're spawning.
Neither do trout..........and they're closed for the most part as well during spawning...........and I'm talkin brookies and lakers.......
Its all about havin a little respect.....no?

da da ding ding ding ding ding!

The weather was great......the black flies were thick!!!
Luckily however, really the only fish we brought to hand were caught on dry flies. Mostly smaller fish in the 7 to 10 inch range, but who's complaining??
Hendrikson duns were the main dish for brookies, browns and rainbows over the weekend, with a couple taken on LBWO's as well.
I had my father in law with me, and he had never touched a fly rod before. He fishes with us, but this time I wanted him to get into some trout on flies. And that he did!!
I taught him how to skate a dry across the surface, and it wasn't long before he had some fish coming to the surface for his offering.
Just little guys, but not bad at all for a first timer!! Congrats Bill!!!
Into the afternoon, some of the older fellas were needing a beer, so myself and my cousin Justin headed upstream into the jungle for what we hoped would be some better action with a chance at some bigger fish.
We headed downstream to a pool that we like to fish on this river. The river is tiny.....only about 15 or 20 feet wide at its widest spots. Its full of absolutely impossible logjams and makes for some very technical, short line fishing. We reached the pool, and the air was full of hennies, LWBOs and midges. Needless to say, it wasn't long after sitting there that we saw the first rise, then another and another.
We probably took about 20 fish between us in that pool, with a couple bruisers coming out for a little sip as well. We werent ready for the big guys, and the excitement caused us to rip the fly right from their lips each time before they had a chance to clamp down!
I did get one shot of a pretty little brown though
And here's a shot at one of the bridges of the last bit of the hendrickson hatch we managed to hit
Can't wait for the major hatches to begin up there!!!!!!

As always moral issuses have no place on these sites, Im sure Mr. Tran needs the free fish, and is thankful that he doesnt need to buy a fishing licence to have all the fish he wants, but hey blame it on the weather cus over harvesting and over fishing could never be the cause of less fish. So when his little girl asks him in 30 years how come we dont catch fish like we used to, he and all the rest that practice this can reply, its just because the weather has just been to COLD lately. Good to know that when a guy dont have his own WhiteBucket someone will fill thiers and give it to them.
Wonder if he took the time to clean them up a little before he gave them to him or the discusting pictures were just to show all of us what a great outdoorsman he is, the only thing missing is the smoke hangin out of his mouth, cus thats COOL
Over fishing and over harvesting are nothing new. I'm sure you know that??!!?? What these fellas have done is well within their rights. You'd prefer to see a pile of fish purchased at a store???? Well......news for you buddy......do a little research on over harvesting of fish in the places you don't or can't fish, such as commercial operations.......and have a little read about some fish farming........both completely obliterate countless populations each year.
Regardless of anything......there are more and more humans every day, and less and less fish every day........fact of life!!! Unavoidable!
Congrats on the catch Rich........you should probably keep one for yourself and make some black cats on the BBQ!!!! Tasty waisty man!!

Ignorance of the law is no excuse!!!
Thats right dog!! No excuse at all. You get the license, it should be MANDATORY that you also receive a copy of the regs.......whether that be from the license dealer or when a card is mailed to you!
-
Grey country troutskies for me!!
-
hmmmmmmm.............they give my dog a timbit everytime we go through the drive through!
Capitalist b&^%%^#@!

Just chuck some giant streamers around when the water is flowin too high........but sometimes too high is just too high!!
I drove by yesterday and the water was probably up a foot to a foot and a half.

NICE!! Thanks for the heads up!!

That's a carp scale, 100%.
The gold part is the piece of the scale that's exposed, the opaque section is covered by overlapping scales.
I'd agree, but it may be worth considering a massive Gar pike as well. Huge bony scales on those buggers!!

Nice shot man! Nice to see more and more fly folk popping up on OFC!!!
-
beaver has been good both lower and upper! Little black wooly buggers and klinkhammers have been the ticket for steelies and browns respectively!
-
If people have the energy to get a license, they should be expected to know the regs.
That means knowing the area BEFORE you fish it. No excuses. I'd have called the MNR if they left the road for a second with their gear.
-
Nice!!!
Dmasse is always good for some good action.
Lovin the fly gear man!!!!!
Don't see enough of it at OFC!!!!
-
meese........like a flock of geese
-
Looks like yer ready to go... the only things I might add are "double padded head gear and some shoulder pads"
HH
I'll second that....steer clear of any popular areas......
-
man oh man........you got a license.....you should probably get the regs too
-
really depends on the river mike. but 1-3mm is nothing! if anything, it'll make the conditions that much better!
-
cant see understand all the hype about opener shoulder to shoulder low clear water and all the best fishing is done good luck to ya ill be fishing for crappy out in the boat with lots of fish and space between fishermen.
I guess you don't explore too much eh?? I haven't seen anyone on opening day for years now.......of course, I steer well clear of any steelhead waters. I've been fishing steelies for the last 6 months, time for the old 4wt to get a workout with browns and brookies!!! Thats my opener...steelhead are open all year for the most part.
