  1. Fish, that's why the deals are there to be had. Trying to get that much off the asking price would be a good starting point. But, on a new rig, they will probably try to stick to that price and then throw in stuff like life jackets, lines, safety equipment and the like. Stick to your guns when it comes to negotiating price and don't be afraid to walk away, if they have your number, you'll hear from them in day or two.

  2. It has finally arrived!! Vacation time with the family. We're off to the trailer in Honey Harbour for 2 whole weeks!! Yayyyyy!!! I'm so due for some time off. Tubing, beaches, swimming, hanging out with the wife and kiddies AND FISHING! I have done so little fishing this year it ain't funny. I haven't washed one Musky lure yet and it's driving me nuts.

See ya in a couple weeks!

Lew, if you want to hit GBay at all, give me a buzz, you've got my number.

  3. To get up there, you can launch at Village Marina in Honey Harbour. Phil has a good concrete launch. Make sure you have charts cuz it's easy to get yourself lost or on top of a shoal minus a lower unit/prop. I get up there in about 25 minutes from near the town dock and that is not boogeying, only doing about 23-25mph when on plane. Make sure you obey the No Wake zones. The OPP is out in force and are tolerating absolutely no nonsense. Also have all your paperwork handy and all safety equipment on your boat.

Good Fishing, I might see you around up there this weekend. I'm fishing out of a beige Larson Fish'n Ski.

  4. I think you'll have better luck with largies in Longuissa Bay. Tubes work well for smallies but try twister tails on jigheads. A few of the oldertimers swear by that. Stick to the inner channel (leeward side of Beausoleil Island) cuz the big boats make a huge wake on the windward side when they are moving.

  5. Hawg, some camping supply store somewhere went out of business. That's what LW sells. I went to the Oakville location a couple of days ago and picked up a Black Cat (I don't really need it but what the heck for $35 it was a steal). The single mantle Coleman lanterns are $30, I saw them at Bass Pro yesterday for $80+. So if anyone needs one or wants one, here is a chance at a steal.

  6. As for the post above regarding the potential of mould, I don't think mould could ever start in that house, it was immaculate. You would think that nobody lived there. JohnF is right, baking bread, cookies, cinnamon buns and the like is what I call chemical warfare, it is not fair. It puts you into a nice frame of mind and hopefully catches you at a weak moment to offer the asking price or more if they throw some baked goods in.... :whistling:

  7. Starting batteries can last anywhere from 2-10 years depending on the battery and how it is maintained. You have to make sure that the water levels are always covering the plates inside (use distilled water only). And the most important thing, make sure that before you store the boat/battery for winter, you charge the battery up. A partially discharged battery can freeze at higher temps than a fully charged battery. Beyond that, there is not much else you can do.

There is a way to charge both batteries off the motor but do you really need 2 starting batteries?? Or is one a deep cycle in which case you really should charge that after every couple of outings?

  8. I went through that 8 years ago when I bought my house. I think in 6 months I saw about 80-90 homes in the Milton/Oakville area. My poor real estate agent got a workout with me. I hear you, we saw one home that was brutal, buddy thought that he was a student slumlord for Sheridan College students, there were 3 so called apartments in the basement that had concrete floors and unpainted unprimed drywall that were the size of closets, another was a home that had the most ridiculous colour scheme you have ever seen, I mean bright red, yellow, orange, green...... Some were downright disgusting with the filth. Another, the owners used chemical warfare against us, it was a beautiful home in Georgetown (too far), they had baked cinanamon buns and the aroma permeated the whole house. They were smart, the house showed beautifully and had it been closer I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Too many people are out there thinking that their little pigsty is worth top dollar. They wouldn't get the time of day from me unless I was getting a great (and I mean great) deal on that sh....thole. Keep looking, something will come up that you will spend many years enjoying.

  9. You need to remember that in getting that truck, you'll be limiting yourself to the kind of boat you want to buy. Mind you, if you are looking at an aluminum 16-18ft with up to a 115, you should be fine. A bassboat can get real heavy when you look at 18ft+. A full size F-150 would probably be your best bet but it all depends on what you want to spend and what you really need it for.

  10. Within a day and a half drive, I'd go to Lake of The Woods. It's a 20hr drive from the GTA and there is only one word to describe the fishing there, AWESOME!!! You can fish for pike, walleye, smallies, largies and muskie. Take your pick.

I'd recommend Smith's Camps near Kenora (20-25mins) or Witch Bay Camp. I know the food is great at Smith's and the beer cold.

  11. JP, good to hear you are OK!! That would scare the bejeezus outta me. I had a big cruiser blasting along putting out a 5-6ft wake a coupla weeks ago on the way to Giants Tomb to hit the beach with the kids, I turned into it quick and killed the throttle, it still made me have air under my butt and rattled the girls and for the first time, water came over the front of my boat (19ft Larson Fish 'N Ski). What happened to me was different but could have had a similar outcome. Needless to say, thankfully I always wear my inflatable PFD and have the kill cord attached when I'm out on the big water of GBay.
