  1. My condolences on the loss of your pal. I lost my dog Roxanna back in September. 11 and a half years of my life spent with her. They truly become a part of us. Rox either came out on the boat for a little bass fishing with me or waited on the dock for my return.

  2. To buy the boat you are looking at over 150k For a used boat. Brand new, over 200k. Fuel is 350+ to fill the tank depending on if you fill at a gas station while traillering or if you fill at a marina. As for speed, maybe about 40mph full out. These boats are purpose built for water sports with bladders that fill with water to help with making big wakes for wakeboarding and wakesurfing. I wouldn’t use it for fishing, the interiors are pretty nice, getting fish slime all over and dirt from worms and bait would trash it pretty fast. Lots of things to damage and break as well. You can probably charge big $$$ to rent it but you would need big $$$ for security and damage deposit. They are expensive to run and own.

Well, we've been here a week now, my cold or whatever it was is pretty much cleared right up and the weather has been quite good. Day time highs have been in the mid to high teens and into the low 20s, so far we've only had one day where rain has interfered with the fishing and that was only for a few hours. (not a single snow flake or a trace of  ice) 😊

Our place isn't huge or fancy, it's really more like a cottage than anything, small but functional, the big advantage is I can walk out my door and be on the pier in less than 5 minutes, it's clean, quiet, and safe.

This is a slow time of the year for this area both for fishing and tourism, the slow tourism is a good thing because nothing is crowded, I don't mind the slow fishing, there's plenty to catch if you aren't looking for trophies. Our main target is whitings, man they are  so delicious. They don't get very big, at least the ones we are catching aren't, a 12" whiting would be considered WOW, most of the ones we keep would be in the 8-10" range but they are super easy to clean and worth the effort. If we quit eating them all the time I might even be able to bring some fillets home with me.

Sitting on the pier watching the sun rise over the ocean or relaxing in the sun, telling jokes (and a few lies) with people from all over and from every walk of life.... well catching fish is just a bonus. It's a very social thing and there is always something new and interesting going on. So far we've caught crokers, puffer fish, whitings, spider crabs, blue crabs, sharks, oh and a slick and a skate (looks like a sting ray and fights like it's 10 times as big as it is).

Well a new day begins, time to get my ass into gear and see what sort of fish are biting today. I'll try to get a few pictures to post in the next few days.

    Tight lines and stay safe!

Looks like someone is having fun. Enjoy, if anyone deserves it, it’s you.

  4. Tough price point to find a decent SUV that is not close to being clapped out. A decent used Caravan would be her best bet in all honesty. They are decent and are cheap to repair/maintain. A Pilot or Highlander at that price would be pretty old. Pilots need to have timing belts done so be wary on the service history. PM me if you want some ideas, I’m a Finance Manager at a Ford dealer in Burlington. Ive ran s used car lot and can help guide you through any pitfalls.

  5. Worst but most fun was a 1990 Jeep YJ Laredo I bought brand new in Sept 1989. Day after I bought it, it started surging and barely ran. Brought it in, needed the carb to be rebuilt. 3-4 sets of rear ujoints. 2 front propellor shafts, 3 sets Of front knuckle joints, a transmission (ground going into 2nd from new, they tried to blame me by saying there was water in the transmission, my response, it’s supposed to be a sealed unit, they begrudgingly replaced it), an ignition coil, several sets of ignition wires, a leaky gas filler neck, a transfer case..... I became good friends with the Service Manager. As a I was a university student working at Knob Hill Farms, he would come in and I would bring him to the butchers who would take care of him, then I’d take him to the produce cooler to get his fruits and veggies. Got rid of that thing with 120k on it. It was great in the winter and fun in the summer but what a p i t a.

  6. As long as you are using the correct type, grade and service designation, the brand is not that important. There are other brands that are less expensive and just as good. If you have the time, do it yearly, if not, every other year is ok. Through the combustion process, oil becomes acidic which can be hard on the bearing surfaces as well as the gaskets. Ask anyone with a German car with the 24k service intervals, by 100k, they leak oil and it is an expensive proposition to fix the leaks.

  7. Yes, the Earth will still be here after we are long gone. Our goal as a society should be to leave it a better place when we pass on. The hype with the young girl from Sweden.... I don't buy into. A little too scripted. That said, more needs to be done. Lots of junk all over the world, heck, they treat MT Everest as a dumping ground, so much so that Sherpas go up once a year to drag some garbage down.

  8. The door swings both ways. Our Admins here do a great job at keeping things civil. Keep up the good work!

I know most people don't like Kevin O'Leary, I personally don't.  2 people lost their lives and 3 kids now have to grow up without a mother. We know very few facts here. The OPP have done their job and laid charges. BOTH drivers. As for lights being on or off, who knows??  Let the courts decide the outcome here.

  9. The Thermacell cartridges ARE the same as those that go into the butane fueled curling irons. They are made by and labelled Thermacell so that is kinda cool. I have found that I ran out of fuel before running out of mats. A 2 pack of cartridges is 10 bucks at Can Tire or Amazon.

  10. They need to justify their being on the water. The OPP up north really burns my biscuit with things like this. A WARNING would suffice. They sometimes forget that they work for us, as do all public servants. I was issued a Bull ticket on 169 a few years ago. As the officer walked away, I told him that I would see him in Boss Hogg's court. He stiffened but went back to his cruiser. I was pulled over for supposedly speeding. I had the cruise on at 80, the limit. He then proceeded to give me a ticket for 'fail to obey sign'. I showed up in Bracebridge court a few months later with a 4 page statement. I met the Crown Attorney and let her know I was taking the ticket to trial and that I would be defending myself. After waiting 4 hours, my name was called, I stood and the Crown moved to withdraw the charge as there was insufficient evidence. I really wanted to read my statement but did not have the opportunity to do so. As I walked by the Officer, I looked him in the eye and said 'Have a nice day Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane, eehuu eehuu eehuu' I ruined his day.
