i have a 16 foot Paluski that weighs 65 lbs. super strong, light enough to throw around yourself, decent in the water and stable enough to fish from. for the price i think you cant go wrong, plus it has a decent yoke that make the portaging comfortable. Smitty

I had the chance to get back up to Nipissing for the second time this year March 6-8. The first time was Jan 9th, and the fishing was painfully slow...1 pickeral between 8 guys in 4 days. This time I was up there with a group of 12 and we stayed with Shawn Degagne of Fish Of A Lifetime Charters. After reading more reports that were basically the same as the fist time I was up there I'm glad to say that we had some success and iced some eyes on Nipissing in 2009. We caught some fish from our huts...a few eyes, a few pike, a bunch of perch and some herring. Saturday Shawn took us a little ways away from the hut and drilled a bunch of holes where we fished for a few hours and iced 7 eyes. 6 of them were under the slot and one was above, a pig of a walleye at around 10 lbs. It was pulled up for a couple of photos but didn't swim away, so it will be heading to my buddy's wall. Here are a few pics from the weekend. I tried at Lebaron's in Markham, no luck....Basspro, same thing. Lowrance has let me know delaers that can order one but it seems that it will take about a month to get it. If anyone knows where i can get one it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Smitty

Im looking to use my Eagle Cuda 168 for ice fishing, and have asked around about what to do for the transducer. A few people have told me to mount my skimmer transducer on a hockey stick or something like that to mount it in the hole, but i'm looking for something with a little less hassle. The Lowrance website has a transducer described as "Portable-mount, 20 degree ice fishing type (200 kHz)". wondering if anyone has used this product or something simialr and what they thought about it. thanks Smitty

Great photos and report. What a gorgeous part of ontario. interesting to see that there are actually some fish in killarney. I have avoided going there for the reason that i have heard there is not fishing at all. might have to change some future plans. Smitty

I was a little wary when i first saw the pic, but remembered the previous post explaining it when it was mentioned again. And the previous post DID explain the giant musky head photo. Lets hope that people don't start trying to alienate other perfectly responsible, law abiding anglers who chose to share their pictures, stories and experiences with the OFC Community who happen to practice fishing/hunting in a different manner than others by say; - keeping one or more of the dissappearing brook trout populationt eat - posting pictures of several full stringers of walleye, another struggling fish stock in areas - showing a photo of one or more dead deer, bear or moose There are countless scenarios that people may not agree with. The point of this forum is to share ideas. If our intent is to change another person's idea about environmental ethics, perhaps we can share our views rather than poopting on someone else's. I thought the picture AND story about the musky was interesting...especially with the full explanation. Thanks for sharing Nelly. Smitty

Hey there, I'm looking to design something similar for my canoe and minn kota. Did you put the J screws through the gunwales of the canoe??...if you did, do you think it would be possible to rig something up that would clamp down on the bottom and top of the gunwales without actually having to go through them?? Wow Wayne, thats quite a story. Glad to hear everyone came out of it just fine. I've had some hairy experiences in choppy water, but nothing quite like that sounds. I hope that, with the reminder of lessons everyone got, that you will let people leave your cottage without a cell phone; planning and boating safety can go a long way. I'm sure there are alot of great things to see and do that are out of cell range in your area. Although, I know the feeling of wanting to get to a certain campsite, or pick -up spot and having that play against better judgement. Either way, a great read, and a great reminder about safety.
