I guess we will be heading to Armstrong Station after we pick our friend up. What are he chances of hooking up and me buying you a drink before 4PM. I think we could push it and get there between 2PM and 3PM.

I live a mile from the lake where this happened. (Residential lake) It happened in Wichita, Ks. Honestly, I thought it was a joke at first but it was all over around here. The paper, local and even some national news. Evidently, someone has put a differnet spin on this one.

Great report. I thought the mystery fish was a white bass. The white perch from kansas don't get that big. If you remembered when cleaning the fish, white bass tend to have the red meat and white perch is more like crappie or walleye having white meat. Thanks for sharing!

Hey guys, Smokey, thanks for the info. I won't have any worms but I'll have salted minnows. TJSA, we're actually scheduled to be in TB on 5-31-07 at approximately 4PM. We're picking up one of our guys at the airport there. We actully won't know if we will spend time there or not depending on if we'll get to fly in the night before. They're suppose to let us know. We're heading up in 11 days, 13 hours and 57 minutes to Armstrong station to fly in to Smoothrock lake (Wabakimi park area) for 7 days of fishing. Has anyone ever fished this area? Any help would be appreciated. We're trying to talk them into flying us in the night before but if not, we thought about hanging around Thunder Bay the night before. Is there anything fun to do there? We considered the casino but not sure what Thunder Bay has to offer. Thanks for any help. Postman

Down here in Kansas, I use float tubes quite a bit when I'm bass fishing smaller waters. I've never hooked my tube with a lure in the 15-20 years I've fished out of a tube but there is better control over the tube than an inflatable boat. The water down here is also much warmer. Good luck!

Thanks again for the information. To be honest, I've never done the meals at the fly-in where we go and we're pretty efficient group. The last fly in where we've been going was kinda light staff some years and we usually handled our own gas but the last time we went, they had someone filling our gas tank every night. This is the person I think deserves the tip but I didn't know what was appropriate for tipping. During our most recent fly ins, the following people I would see deserve a tip but unsure on the amount: The people loading the gear onto plane The people taking gear to cabin The people that fill the gas tank every night The pilot I definitely have a problem. It's a Saturday night and I can't sleep. I can't stop thinking about our trip. Thanks again, Postman

I live in Wichita Ks. I don't catfish much with the exception of maybe once a year when I take dad. Also ,the board only recognizes me as a member since this year but I've actually posted in the years past usually asking questions as it related to Ontario. My problem, its generally a few times a year right before we head up to Ontario (18days, 1 hour and 20 minutes and 28 seconds to go). I wish we had a board like this one but my guess is the lack of good fishing that hurts the board locally. You might see 3 or 4 posts a week. Hi fellow fishermen, I've been a member for awhile but don't post much because I live too far south (Kansas) to be useful. I do come up once a year for 1 week of fishing (mostly Ontario). We've been going up for 14 years now and I love it up there but I'm tied to work and family down south. If anyone has any guidelines for tipping a pilot or even a camp manager on a fly-in trip, it would be helpful. Typically, we usually throw the pilot $30 for each way and the camp manager $50 for our 6-man group. To be honest, I don't know if that's too much or too little. Nobody has ever complained but I want to be sure I'm within reason. Thanks for the help, Postman

I never purchased a magellan, however, I had an e trex legend until it was stolen with all of my ice fishing equipment this winter (2 months old). So, naturally I upgraded and went with Garmin's 76 CX. I purchased it at Reeds outdoors on sale for $420 plus I received a free carrying case. I also purchased Topo Canada software and I've already have the lake I'm going to downloaded to it. I don't have a lot of experience using it but am looking forward to this year's fishing trips as this unit is very easy to navigate and its very easy to read. Good luck fishing, Postman
