Ok...a walleye that is 24" weighs what? Does it progress so much poundage per inch? How about a northern that is 35"? Does it progress so much poundage per inch also?

Will be flying out of Ear Falls to Birch Lake. Going with my Dad, friend and brother-in-law. Hoping to slay the walleye, some big pike and maybe a lake trout. Going July 13 for 7 days. PUMPED UP for it!

Fireline...I like to use the 6lb.test on my spinning reels, it cast wonderful and I absolutely love it. On my baitcasters I put 20 lb. crystal fireline on my rod I use for pike....on my other baitcaster 10 lb. crystal....it is fantastic!!!! cast a country mile, sensitive, and rock hard hook sets.

Sorry! Didn't realize I had been duped!

Forwarded from my brother in law in Winnebago, MN This is awesome. While fighting a 36" pike, a 54" - 44# pike >> >> attacked >> >>> the smaller fish and was brought into the boat...! >> I Got this from our production manager, a buddy of his went >> north >> >> fishing >> >>> Rainy Lake (actually the river) but we'll drive by that enroute to > >> >>> Savant Lake again. . I should note, the bait fish (in big >> >> fish's >> >>> mouth) was over the slot limit at 36". This would significantly >> >>> increase the final cost of this years canada trip if I happen to >> >> catch >> >>> something like this. No replica would hit my wall, that fish >> would >> >> not >> >>> be swimming any longer as I'd turn him into wall art. >> >>> >> >>>>>>>>> >> >>> I'm afraid to swim in the water. >> >>> >> >>> Here's a couple of pics you might enjoy. Beings the experts that you are tell me where I can go on the internet and purchase one. Looking for Birch Lake in Ontario...by Red Lake. Thanks for any suggestions.

I think spinning reels are easier...but I prefer a baitcaster! I am much, much more accurated with it. I like a 6' rod medium action...the bass pro shops have a rod called a bionic blade on sale for 49...can't beat it!!!! For a spinning rod for 59 bucks you can get a pflueger 6730...great reel!!!!!! 10 ball bearings. For baitcasters the new Abu Garcia Revo series are simply awesome...they range for 119 for the S series to 199 for the STX series, if that is too much look at the Pflueger president, or the lower end Abu Garcia reels...can't go wrong with any of the above. I love to string my rods with fireline..nothing better in my humble opinion. The new crystal fireline is simply see through....good luck....

Going to Birch Lake in Mid-July and how do I get my shad raps, and stick baits down deep to the larger walleyes? I am hearing alot about bead chain sinkers...I have never rigged one or know what they are. Might try to get down to some lake trout too...thanks for any and all help!!

Ok why the yellow suit....some special warding off squito properties???? Just curious....last year we went about 150 miles northeast of Ear Falls on a fly-in to Saddle Lake...it was late July and no bugs to bother us...I suppose that was just unusual???
-
Going on a fly-in the week of July 13th, flying out of Ear Falls going to Birch Lake, 75 miles Northwest of Ear Falls...what will the weather generally be like that far north in Mid-July???? I know you are not weather predictators but a general temperature????

U.S. Citizens just need a raised seal birth certificate until January 1, 2008. If flying into Canada you do need a passport effective NOW. I am going to get my passport so I don't have to worry about it!

The new Abu Garcia Revo series is one of the best on the market regardless of money!!!!! Team it up on Bass Pro site with a bionic blade...that is an awesome reel...it is available in a 6.4:1 series and a high speed 7.1:4 series. Seriously it is worth a look. Bass Pro has it in a combo too.

Just wondering if this forum has an opinion on baits like Gulp and Berkley scented twisters over regular plastics.....I wondered if it really matters on lakes that are walleye factories in NW Ontario???? Curious your thoughts everyone.
-
I agree two years ago we flew out of Ear Falls to Saddle Lake and it was a very dark water...and we killed them with blue/silver shad raps, wildeye's, and Husky Jerks.

Hello all I am going to fishing Birch Lake Northeast of Ear Falls on a fly in this summer. Solopaddler said the water is a stained tannin color....I assume this is a dark water...what are the colors of choice in these waters for Walleyes and Lake Trout and Northern. Appreciate any help and thanks again....

You told me of a river on birch lake that I needed to go to the first rapids on...what is the rivers name...and what end of the lake is it on??? We will be on the northeast side. Thanksssssss
-
Solo...I looked and yes it looks like there is a river flowing into the Cat Lake Chain from Birch Lake...we will staying at Kayair outpost out of ear falls on the northeast shore of the lake...if that is close to the river you speak of????
-
Thanks so much for the info solo...yes that sounds like the lake that the outfitter told us about..I havea lake map and they say it is very irregular shaped and a walleye hotspot...lake trout too...and supposedly nice northern. The river you talk of is it on the south end of the lake??? I will definitely try that...sounds like an adventure.

It was the end of May as bass were moving up to reefs and rock piles...my 2nd bass I got was not much later the same day and it weighed 5 1/2 pounds...we have unbelievable bass fishing on Little Vermillion...my dad goes about every year...except 2 years ago when we flew out of ear falls to saddle lake outpost...6 of us and we caught on the average about 500 walleyes a day for the group...it was unreal!!! This year we are flying to birch lake...that is why I was posting to see if anyone had any experience with the lake...or what works well for the walleye in that particular water....we love to troll shap raps, berkley frenzies, etc....wildeyes....
-
So you guys are saying Birch has smallmouth? My dad and I use to go to Fireside Lodge on Little Vermillion and had awesome early season bass fishing....my fondest memory is my first smallie weighed 6 lbs...and caught it on my ultralight with fireline....on Claus lake I believe...great times!

Is there some good stock colors for lakes in this region that are better then others for walleye...I always have good luck with the blue/chrome type lures....just wondering...thanks for all your help...
-
By the way the Birch Lake I am talking about is located 70 air miles NE of Ear Falls. Does that help out????
