    You must see quite a few Harbercraft, Hewes Weldcrafts and alike....

     

    Any particular opinion about them? and keep in mind I'm looking at 18 footers nothing bigger

    I already have a tinny and mine is already rigged up. I'll save you some money from new! I'll sell it to you cheep :whistling: nice 50 hp! will run 55kph!

  2. You need to figure out what your gonna use the boat for, casting, trolling, drift fishing, water skiing, cruising with the family, big water, little water, sunny days only, or cold and rainy too ??

     

    Once you decide what the main uses will be, it'll narrow your choices down a bunch and make the decision easier.

     

    if I wanted the best boat for each application you mentioned I'd need 5 boats to satisfy my needs

     

    Boat will be used on Simcoe, Erie some lake Ontario runs a few trips to the Kawarthas and the occasional BOQ trip oh don't let me forget the lower niagara in the winter.

     

    I need an "all around rig" mostly casting some drifting and little trolling. I want it to handle reasonable waters as I don't mind fishing when she blows hard or drizzles a bit.

     

     

     

  3. No not a North River. A NR boat like this runs 40k

     

     

    why is this such a difficult decision? It took me 4 hours to by my last car. I spend 4 hours a day comparing smokecraft to starcraft, lund to lows etc.

     

    Looking at all the boat MGF's all the possible models how you pick the one the bests fits you. I don't want to do this again in two seasons.

     

    Anyone know how much mark up the marinas place on their packages? Can I expect to haggle 4-5k or will be closer 1-2k?

     

     

  4. I've owned a boat for two seasons. I bought little 16 starcraft with a 50 out of the 80's that I restored and tuned. After the two seasons I'm starting to see some limitations drawbacks and shortcomings. She is a bit tight for 3, close to 30 years old, a bit too low for the kiddies etc etc... I can think of a thousand excuses to blow some cash.

     

    I know that the ticket is to buy used but I hope to get some feedback from guys who bought from a marina/dealer. Better yet anyone ever try to get a deal at the show?

     

    How are the shows? Is there deal to be had? Price discounts or better packages?

  5. When I was shopping my for last rod I wanted to try it out but for all my effort I just could not find a rod I liked. All the micro guide rods I got to handle felt like telephone poles.

     

    Could go custom, acid wrap micro guides?

    -I wonder how that would work

     

    What was the brand that had the line run inside the blank?

    -don't see them around anymore

    The U.S. recession is still making waves at Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. The Quebec manufacturer will exit the sport boat business and shut down its plant in Illinois, eliminating 350 jobs.

     

    “This is a difficult but necessary decision for BRP,” José Boisjoli, president and CEO of the Valcourt-based company, said in a statement.

     

    The company invented the snowmobile and made a killing with its Sea-Doo watercraft. It started producing sport boats 18 years ago. But sales of the jet-driven boats, often used to water ski, never bounced back after the recession as cautious American consumers continue to put off non-essential spending.

     

    BRP tried to sell the plant in Benton, Ill., that it inherited through its 1995 acquisition of Celebrity. It couldn’t find a buyer.

     

    The sport boat business represents 3 per cent of the company’s sales, said Pierre Pichette, BRP’s public affairs vice-president. The company stopped disclosing its revenue after the Bombardier Inc. unit was bought out in 2003 by a consortium led by U.S. private equity fund Bain Capital. Bain partnered with the family of Laurent Beaudoin, who transformed Bombardier into a transportation multinational, and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Quebec’s biggest pension fund manager.

     

    In a 2011 interview, Mr. Boisjoli was hopeful that annual sales would recover all the ground lost during the recession by 2013, and reach the $2.8-billion mark again. BRP’s revenues crashed 40 per cent within six months of Lehman Brothers Inc.’s collapse.

     

    The difficult days are clearly not behind BRP, whose plans to return to the stock market after a five-year restructuring have been delayed. It is now pinning its future on the design of high-end power-sports vehicles such as the Spyder, a three-wheeled roadster that it launched in 2007.

     

    This is the second decision that BRP has taken as part of the strategic review of its marine products. Last May, the company announced that it will transfer the assembly line of its watercraft from Valcourt to a new plant to be built in Mexico. It will also stop producing its own accessories and clothes and contract out the distribution of spare parts.

     

    After the layoffs are taken into account, BRP employs 6,500 people, 3,000 based in Quebec, according to Mr. Pichette.

    the courts can find you innocent

     

    but the insurance co is above that..

     

    and due to fault determination rules jack up your rates 400%

     

    My 7 years are up Feb 12, 2013.. I'm looking at 2500/year rate reduction

    we have what is called DCPD (direct compensation property damage).

     

    it saves insurance companies from going after each other, as with fault determination rules, there is always an at fault party. as such, every single accident would have one insurance company going after another for compensation (or otherwise known as subrogation).

     

     

    this would not be cost effective.

     

    as such, regardless of fault, the "not at fault" driver's insurance company does not go after the "at fault" drivers insurance company.
