  1. I have a line on some styro-foam plates as well as plastic utensils, tell me how many you think we will need and what utensils and consider them supplied.

I will get 5# onions and chop them.

I also have my two 20# propane tanks and hoses. I am also bringing by propane smoker/oven to keep food warm and ready to finish grilling.

Sausages and hot dogs, could be steamed before putting on the grill for final cooking. Burgers can be partially cooked, then placed in a pan in the oven and then finished before serving The chiken pieces can be warmed in another pan. This will cut down on tyring to cook everything at once. I know it works, at a family re=union this summer we did the same thing and there was not problems.

We still need a lot of extra stuff and it sure would be nice if we could get some help.

    We could use:

Hotdogs (to go with the 100 hotdog buns)

    Hamburgers

    Hamburger Buns

Kiser or some other large buns for the chicken breasts

    Mustard

    relish

chopped onions (or onions and we will chop them there)

    Styrofoam or paper plates

    Napkins

Potable water in case we have to make extra coffee or hot chocolat.

    some plastic utensils

    (am I missing anything?)

I need to know very soon if any of you can help out here or we are going to have to buy the stuff this week.

Please post here if you can help so everyone knows what is still needed.

Thanks to all those that have offered to bring equipment, extra BBQS, the trailer, generator, looks like we are going to need all we can get.

  2. You do mean a real TRUCK :thumbsup_anim: ,

Consider a full size Chev Silverado extended cab or crew cab with a 5.3.

Also the Ford F150 or F250 extended or crew cabs. Both vehicles ofer superb power, torque and comfort

Both have been making Pick up Trucks for decades and have worked the bugs out. They have been the backbone of farmers, contruction companies and the likes. These two can take a beating and keep on ticking.

Give the metrosexual pick ups from Toyota, Nissan and to some extend Dodge to the farmers and the construction companies and after 160,000 km or 100,000 miles see how they have lasted.

  3. I'll be there on Thursday in time for the opening at 1:00pm. Will be looking for any OFC'rs

SilveradoSherrif and Gerrit, you two are very lucky, getting to this particular leaf/oilers game. This the night they will be honouring the 1967 Leaf, Stanley cup team. You will see some great legends from the past great leaf teams. This is one time I envy someone.

    Enjoy the experience.

  4. I must be the odd ball here. I just signed up to Rogers home phone and their cell service. So far I'm really impressed. I use Star Choice for my satelite service.

Dumped Bell, terrible customer service. When I dumped ExpressVu, I was hounded by a couple of CSR's from Montreal, offering me "hi Def PVR boxes and install for free" if I would re-consider. I haven't heard anything from their land lines, but their cell CSR called and offered to re-write my contract with a lot of additional freebies.

  5. TonyB, let us keep it simple, the thoughts of trying to cook chicken breasts for that many, and avoid salmonella or botulism type virus will be difficult on our small table top BBQs.

Sausages would be the best bet for all. Hot dogs as well. Hamburgs are also good to go, but must be cooked to well done.

I will be providing three table top BBQs....I also have a vertical gas smoker, that can double as a warming oven, or a simmering oven to get the sausages/hot dogs going quickly.

    Just my thoughts.

Moe it is being promoted on other boards, but what are their members willing or offering to contribute? Maybe we should get a commitment from them and co-ordinate all through here.

  6. Is only 16 days away :thumbsup_anim::thumbsup_anim: , Who is going and what day.

I usually go on opening day, but since I have a previous appointment, my missus and I will be there on Friday, from opening until whenever......

If there is enough OFC members each day, a mini swill is in order.

TJ and Monique are you planning on making an apprearance this year?

  7. I have several 6500C3's and have been using them for years. Nothing fancy, but functional and will last a long time. I have added the power handle to two of them, and it makes a big difference.

I have the same St.Croix rod, and with the 6500C3, it is a sweet combo.

At a recent MCI Toronto chapter meeting, the rep from Shimano present the new 2007 reels, designed for musky fishing, and I could have been persuaded to to buy one of their shiny new toys, but for the $$$$

I would also look at the Quantum Cabo PTs. These are excellent reels as well, actually desgined as a saltwater reel. JB's has them under 200.

Another Quantum reel is the Classic 1430 MGC series (1431MGC) is for lefties. This is a low profile reel, about the same capicity and weight as a 3C. Again, JB has them in stock.

    Just my ramblings,

    John

  8. I know your family takes precident over some silly fishing board, but it was nice of you to take a minute and give us an update.

I hate to sound like I'm mimicking Lew, but if you what support or a strong shoulder, give me a PM before you leave. I'll gladly share your burden. You are in our prayers.

  9. Welcome aboard, nice intro and great photos. You have found the place that supports multi species fishers.

Looking forward to your reports and pics.

Whereabouts you located. I have a spare Lhur Jensen electric smoker you could borrow. PM me and we can work something out.

  10. Fantastic show.

All I can say about those fish is WOW!

It was also a pleasure watching Marc and listening to and learning from him. Great information was provided about moon phases and weed growth.

Thank you for a great 30 minutes. :worthy:

  11. Nothing beats a quality VHF radio when on big water. Consider visiting a shop like West Marine (many throughout the province) and pick up a VHF radio and mount it and an 8ft antena on your boat. Forget about cell service in the middle of the lake, iffy at best.

If you need assistance the Coast Guard can and will summon other boats in the area to assist. You can remain in constant touch with them until assistance arrives.

Be smart, be safe when on the water.

  12. My contract with Bell Mobility expires this month, and before I commit to them again, I am interested in what other providers are like. I guess the only other providers in the area are Rogers and Telus. :dunno:

To those members using either Rogers or Telus, tell me the good and bad points of each. How long you have been using these providers, and why you do not use Bell Mobility.

    Thanks

    John
