Filmed at Eddie North's Attawapiskat River last year. Please find the video on our website www.fishinginthewild.com or on our youtube channel Much better if viewed in HD. This was our first time filming and editing with just my friend Chris and I in the boat. Any help or suggestions as to whom we can speak with regarding potential sponsors or networks would be greatly appreciated! Hope you enjoy! Matt

Hey Moosebunk, I generally look for more pronounced defined holes rather than skinny in-between pocket water. I find the plugs work better in clear water believe or not as they can see the lure from far away where as if its really stained they won't see it till the last second and they can get spooked sometimes. I put a couple split shot about 18" up from the lure depending on how deep a hole and current speed etc. I usually start at the top of a hole and fan cast it down, just letting it swing in the current as slow as possible but maintaining the wobble, or if I can get in the river at the top of the hole and just do the heave and leave downstream, sometimes I'll just let it sit in the current and wobble and this way can induce some huge hits as it just pisses them off after a minute or two. Generally, the biggest fish I have caught have come on the plug. Cheers, Matt

I do indeed Ron, he taught me and my friend how to steelhead about 10 years ago and yes he got us on the plugs too haha, great guy. They are just deadly this time of year Cheers, Matt

June 1st Pike adventure to Eddie North's Attawapiskat River
emjay88 replied to emjay88's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for responses everyone. I saw that lure in the lodge Dan. Isn't that always the way? One lure just works the best any given week. Last year my go to pike lure was a simple white spinner bait, yet this year it was the in line mepps musky killer, silver blade and white and black maribou. The Johnson's silver minnow tipped with a white twister tail also worked well, especially being very weedless. Our biggest producer for Walleye was a silver husky jerk and the rogue worked well too. The pattern was totally different from last year, but that's what makes it fun. Trying to figure it out. Cheers, Matt -
June 1st Pike adventure to Eddie North's Attawapiskat River

Thanks. We made a short video of the adventure as well. This was our first kick at the can editing a video. -
Hi All, I created a pdf photo essay of our trip this year to Attawapiskat River chasing pike and walleye. It was a week long fly in starting June 1st. Pike were just getting shallow and still in full spawning mode. Eddie North's place was once again such a treat to visit for a week. Truly a magical to visit and the best pike and walleye fishing I have ever experienced. This was my second year going up there and again set a new pb for some monster pike! Pike and Walleye heaven! One boat, two fishermen, seven days fishing. All the pike and walleye you can dream of. Our best day was 55 pike landed including 5 double headers, not to mention some walleye thrown in the mix.

so I uploaded picks to Flickr. Can anyone tell me how I can post pics so that they aren't tiny yet won't go over the 250 kb when I want to upload multiple pics? Thanks, Matt

Hey there, I'm a long time lurker. I plan on posting a lot more on here now over the course of the summer as I have quit my job and plan on pursuing a career in the fishing industry. More specifically I'm working on a fishing show pilot with a good friend and will be filming all over Ontario for the next few months. Why you ask? The simple answer is because fishing is what I love to do, and I have decided to do what I love to do! I know the odds are stacked against me but I'm going to at least give it a go. The show is called "Fishing In The Wild" and who knows you might see it in 2014. Here is a quick vid of some recent catches from the past few years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h9YzGrg-WY We will be filming a good chunk of the pilot this June 1st at Eddie North's Attawapiskat Camp for monster pike and walleye, and I'll make sure to give a solid report upon our return. This will be our second year in a row there and I have to give credit to Mike Borger's (solopaddler) report here as the reason we went there in the first place! Matt Jones

From watching WFN for the last month I can't help but hearing over and over that the next generation of fisher people is few and far between compared to generations pasts, and how important it is to keep the sport alive because the number of fishermen is in decline. However, I can't but notice that in the last 15 years, fishing spots that were once a "secret" or just low traffic are now packed full of boats. Even in northern Onatrio where there are hundreds of lakes I find when I go out there are twice as many fishermen compared to 10 years ago. Does anyone else agree with this statement? or maybe I'm missing something.I appreciate any thoughts on this topic.

Hello all, So I have decided to have my bachelor party this long weekend with 10 of my closest friends musky fishing on the French River. While I'm going through all my gear, I thought of a question about musky leaders. I have some fluoro leaders ranging from 12" to 24" and I'm wondering what lengths are preferred for casting compared to trolling. My logic is that a shorter leader is desired for trolling, where as a longer lead would be better for casting, but I'm not entirely sure of this logic. Any insight would be a big help. I have one more question about tactics... I have had success in the past in a current area that is usually a walleye spot, but I know some musky's move in there to ambush walleye. There is a pretty strong current that has about a 25 foot basin and then runs right up to about 3-5 feet. I managed to hook up with a 50"+ beauty about 6 years ago on a perch colour grandma at night in the full moon. Other than trolling some big body baits up the current are there any other tips or lure selections I should consider when hitting this spot again? Thanks in advance for any help!

Wow! amazing report! Some great looking specimens to say the least.

Unfortunately I didn't get a tape measurer on her before her release but I'm 6'3" and from a rough measurement after where I had her placed while I was removing the hooks, she was between 50-53". She took a perch coloured grandma at midnight in the full moon on the French River, one of the best fights of my life to say the least! We had been trolling up and down a current channel for walleye doing quite well for a few hours when all of a sudden the bite just completely stopped, and we figured there must be a big musky in there spooking the walleye, so I rigged my musky gear and first pass WHAM! and she came right out of the water with a huge jump. Cheers, Matt

Sorry, not quite sure why it posted to my own thread with multiple duplicate pictures!

Hello all, Just thought I would say how much I enjoy reading everyone's reports and looking at their pics. I normally fish for musky and steelhead and everything in between and have recently taken up fly fishing. Here are a few pics from the past few years. Cheers, Matt
